I have to be completely honest and I admit that this is a harsh review. . . I am not impressed. For context, please let me explain my use case and where I feel this ice maker fails: To increase their longevity, save wear and tear on the compressor and water pump, and also to discourage mold growth and mildew, I prefer not to run countertop ice makers continuously. For fire safety, I also prefer not to leave them running unattended. Instead, for the reasons mentioned, I run them for only one day twice per month (every two weeks) followed by sanitizing and then I let them air dry until the next use. I run multiple nugget ice makers at the same time and then bag the ice from each full basket and put the bag in the freezer. I take it out later and tap the bag gently on both sides several times with a small flat mallet to loosen the ice nuggets and keep them separated. I then collect all of the frozen ice nuggets into commercial ice bags and make several bags of nugget ice just like what you would buy in the store. Because I have several nugget ice makers, I can get it all (2 weeks worth) done in one day. The ice from this Silonn nugget ice maker (model SLIM43B-US) is crumbly, ill-formed, and only partially frozen. It has a softer consistency and there is a significant amount of what I call debris -- broken bits, slush, and irregular shaped pebbles. This type of ice does not lend itself to bagging and storing as it is so wet that it melts together and forms big lumps (rocks) in the freezer and loses its nugget shape, what little there is of it. This makes it nearly impossible to store for later (collect, bag and then freeze). I also noticed that the ice melts rapidly when a beverage is poured over it, instantly watering down the drink. The design of this ice maker sacrifices the quality of the ice in favor of the production speed. It rapidly and continually spits out soft, wet bits of ice. This completely defeats the purpose of buying a “nugget” ice maker. Other, cheaper nugget ice makers sold here on Amazon make better ice -- consistently well-formed, evenly shaped, firmly frozen nugget ice without debris (bits and pebbles) in the mix. This ice maker might work fine for someone who just wants to have ice ready on the counter and plans to scoop it right into the glass and then pour a beverage over it. Personally, however, I am disappointed in the performance for the price. You might be too. Other notes: The entire machine is made of cheap flimsy plastic and will eventually crack from age and stress. I don’t think it is built for longevity. One accidental drop on the floor of the ice basket or the water tank and it will likely be cracked or chipped. Due to the cheap all plastic housing, the ice is not kept insulated like other ice makers. This means that water condenses on the outside of the water tank and is constantly dripping down the sides when in use. This ice maker automatically runs a defrost clean cycle after 4.5 hours of continual use. This means it flushes tank water through all of the metal parts that freeze the water to make ice -- the auger and the extruder holes that form and release the ice nuggets. The warm water flushing through the machine brings the temperature down of all of the cold mechanical freezing parts. Water also pours down the ice basket like a waterfall. This effectively interrupts the ice making cycle and the mechanical parts have to reach a chilled state all over again. This interrupts the ice making process for about another hour while the machine recovers and begins starts making ice well again. Until it fully recovers, it rapidly spits out wet malformed bits all over the ice in the ice basket. This is a hindrance not a feature. For context, other nugget ice makers only run an automatic cleaning/defrosting cycle when a freeze up is detected -- the auger struggles to turn, the thermostat detects the temp has dropped too low, or the ice extruder holes freeze up and the ice is stuck. It will then flush the machine to defrost before restarting the ice making process. The fan is on the side of the ice maker right next to the water tank and ice basket rather than on the back like every other ice maker I have ever owned. This hot air blows right next to the water and ice basket. This is a poor design choice IMO. The ice is not kept insulated like other ice makers. This means that water condenses on the outside of the machine. Water is constantly dripping down the sides of the water tank when in use. As far as aesthetics, if not using the timer functions, there is always a big pointless double zero “OO” on the display. There is nothing sleek about this ice maker. It looks and feels cheap. There are much better ice makers here on Amazon that sell for much less. Do yourself a favor and invest in one of those instead. ... show more

I’ve had this Ice maker for less than a month and it is already not working properly. It started out working fine making ice pellets like described— however my initial issue was that the ice did not remain cold in the maker, the ice melts moments after being made because there is no insulation. When I received it I couldn’t figure out how to use it because it didn’t make sense to me that you would put water in the basin that appeared to be where the ice would be stored. It all made sense once the ice started melting and recycling to become ice again. This was only a mild annoyance until the ice started tasting like chemicals, I assume from the melting and refreezing with a the same Freon repeatedly. I solved this problem by PURCHASING an ice storage been for the freezer and dumping it in there as soon as it was made; and using bottled water rather than tap. After another week or so, the NEW problem was that the ice was turning into tiny caps, rather than bullets as described. This began yesterday. I thought perhaps the machine needed to defrost, so I unplugged it overnight. This morning I plugged it back in and the first few rotations were normal ice bullets, then they became shorter, and shorter until they weren’t even ice caps. The images provided are of what they started out looking like and what they looked like before I called Amazon to receive a refund. I would NOT purchase this ice maker

This unit is a very poor design. The tank does not properly fit against the unit and the unit will pour out water flooding the area around it when it goes into self clean mode. This happens every few days. Upon close examination, It is evident that this flaw is not correctable. The construction of the product itself is the problem. The ice maker is unusable unless you want to put it in the sink to operate, I contacted the Silonn, but received no help other than to unplug, allow time to cool down and to refill the tank and start it up again. At that time it shoots out more water. Unfortunately, this flaw was not detected until it was too late to return to Amazon. Other than this problem, the product operated quietly and efficiently. The ice is "wet" and melts quickly. I'm very disappointed it the results of this purchase. I am only giving it one star because I can't post my review with no stars. This purchase ended up being worthless. The customer service was lacking (I was given a scripted answer and disconnected). Worked one time only.

Very excited about this product, arrived with everything seeming like it would be a great purchase. However the instructions are not at all clear or necessarily accurate. It kept talking about particular lights and flashing lights etc. none of which were evident at all. And the "white light" never appeared, only a light blue light. It was definitely not white. As far as the red green and blue other lights it mentions, none of them ever showed up. After we made the first batch, we really enjoyed the ice and decided it was worth continuing to use even with or without the lights. So on our second day we decided to make another batch and the machine just sits there running and running and running and has not made ice. At one point when we pressed the button to make ice, instead the machine on its own decided to go into cleaning mode. Very frustrated and disappointed. Have returned it. Hope we have no issues. Only worked 2 months

Bought this ice maker in April as our previous one did not produce enough ice at a time for our family of 4. Chose this product as it had a really good rating a reviews. When the ice maker works, it makes great “chewy” ice and enough for our family to all fill our water bottles. However, it does not have an insulated bin for the ice meaning it needs programmed to make ice when you think you’ll be needing it, it’s not just ready waiting for you. This was frustrating as our days are busy and not always the same. We’ve had the maker for only 2 months now (it’s June) and it has stopped making ice at all saying “freeze protection reminder, smart ice maker has frozen or is about to freeze, automatic defrosting will be triggered” meaning a part inside is too frozen to continue. We’ve tried everything to get it to work again and it still won’t make ice claiming the same problem even when unplugged and emptied for days. Descaling and cleaning hasn’t worked either. Very disappointed that after 2 months of use this is broken and we will now need to buy another ice machine. As such, I would not suggest this ice machine as I feel like I’ve wasted $300 for nothing but frustration. ... show more

It quit working after just less than a year old! I need a replacement or refund. It was a good one when it worked but now it just leaks water out from the bottom regardless if you just fill the water to half the line! This ice machine I bought in May if this year! Defective - DO NOT BUY

I would give zero stars if I could. The machine stopped functioning within 40 days. Even after meticulously taking it apart and troubleshooting per manufacturer, it continues to leak large volumes from the bottom tray. And, even with regular use and cleaning per manufacturer, it produces ice that has a strong taste of mold after only a month of use. It advertises as "self cleaning", however, the cleaning feature only gently runs water for a few cycles through the tubing (which also occurs during the ice making process, so it's not really doing much). I even opened the machine completely to try and clean the components myself, but even when opened there is no way to clean the tubing where I can see a large amount of black mold has built up. I'd have to take it to a refrigerator repair specialist to be serviced and cleaned, likely costing more than it is worth. This is a complete piece of junk. Save your time and money - do not buy this defective product! ... show more

I wanted to use the ice maker a few times before reviewing it, because a 5 star review with "looks nice, haven't used it yet" is pretty worthless. Received it mid-April 2022. Waited 2 days to let coolant settle as recommended, wiped out the inside. I chose this ice maker because you can invert a water bottle on top and not have to keep filling the reservoir. I used 1-gal bottle of distilled water. Like putting a bottle on the water cooler, it takes a knack to flip the bottle and set it on the nipple w/o spilling half the water. I used a step-stool so I was see what I was aiming for on top of the machine. The ice maker calls itself "countertop" model so it fits on the counter, but its the size of 4 toasters stacked 2 on 2, so its not going to live on my countertop. So, plugged in, first gallon set on top, (the water reservoir holds a little less than 1-gallon so there's still water in the inverted bottle. It siphons nicely), pushed buttons per instructions and she started right up. Instructions are pretty clear, the ice maker is not overly loud (well, for my house anyway) after cooling itself a minute or 2, the screen shows the number of minutes to make ice. Each cycle of ice "sheet" took 5 minutes, but I didn't time the entire gallon of water, and I didn't weigh the total ice produced. I didn't want to babysit the process, so I just did other stuff until I heard the ice drop into the bin, then transferred it to zip-bags into freezer. The included "scoop" is useless and now resides in my cat's kibble. I did see a few comments about the ice melting in the bin. It MAKES ice. It's NOT a freezer. So, yes, you have to transfer the ice to your freezer within a few minutes. I didn't pay attention to "start to finish" time but noticed it sat idling for a few minutes before checking the reservoir was empty of water. I had 4 'full' gallon-size zip bags plus one "sheet" of ice. So, I used 2 gallons of water, in 2 days of ice making, that time. A few weeks later, early May, I brought out the machine and made ice from another 2 gallons of distilled water. It worked like a champ again! It was quiet to run, I didn't babysit the process. 4 gallon bags of ice does not keep my family going for a month. Yes, we purchased ice between time. I'm stingy and kept my ice for me. So... now it's end of June, I have my 2 gal of distilled water and nothing going on on my countertop for a few hours, might as well make ice! I set it up, it ran smoothly, I heard the first batch of ice drop into the bin, I put it in my bag then into freezer. Ice maker starts its new cycle, a minute or 3 later.... - OK, NOW WATCH MY VIDEO - standing next to the machine, the screeching startled me enough to drop my glass of ice water! I pushed the button to pause the machine! Eyebrows up in my hairline, I decided to "look under the hood", like a motorist on the side of the road with no clue what to look for. Still full of water. I pressed the button again and it started its cycle, me with my phone ready to catch sight of the screaming demon that has possessed my ice maker! Yup, it screamed, I paused it again. Now... my dilemma - do I let it run? Sacrifice my machine to save a buck-50's worth of water?? (Like spending $40 more to save $5 shipping) So... I decided if it's still running it can't be too bad, if the motor is burning out - might as well see if I can get a little more ice out of it. I had my fire extinguisher handy, moved the machine as far from the elec outlet as the cord allows, so I can unplug it, and I let it run. When the machine is paused, it shows the temperature of the water (?) which was normally 75°F to 80°F. The temp showed 92°F! But I went ahead and let it screech. Normally the cycle time is 5-6 minutes for ice. It showed 18 minutes now. 12 minutes into the scream cycle the screaming stopped, the machine continued running and continued its countdown. It finished its cycle at normal motor decibel. Then it started the cycle again, a few minutes in, it starts screeching again. Pausing showed 88°F but I let it continue and again the noise stopped after about 10 mins. I unplugged it after the ice cycle completed. As I was yelling at the machine to "SIT THERE AND THINK ABOUT YOUR BEHAVIOR!!" my husband gave me the eye roll, moved the machine around, set a little fan blowing on the machine's exhaust intake screen, told me to stop torturing my toys, and think about my own behavior. Oh, and would I make him a sandwich, please? I turned the machine back on later in the afternoon, it screeched only a few minutes during each cycle but made ice. This morning it's running quietly and finishing a gallon of water. It was hot yesterday - 100° outside. It was warm inside - probably about 80° - we don't have a/c in our old farmhouse. I'll use it when the weather is cooler or until it dies a loud painful death when the weather is hot and I want ice! So, as far as recommending this ice maker, it depends on what you can tolerate. No extended warranty is offered, but it would be nice if it did. Edit: Oct 2022. 70°F I've been making ice for about 3 hours with nary a squeak from the ice maker. Seems the motor is highly sensitive to weather/temp and likes it cooler. Which kinda defeats its purpose for ice in the hot summer months... ... show more
