Description

The Siemens VersiCharge line of electric vehicle charging equipment is the most versatile, feature rich and easy to use system available to electric vehicle users. The lineup includes amperage control, flexible installation options, and intuitive user controls. The charging station is provided with a mounting bracket and a NEMA 4 enclosure rating for indoor and outdoor use. NEMA 4 ratings provide a water tight enclosure, as opposed to most other manufacturer's NEMA 3R ratings which are only rain resistant. A standard 20 foot cord and J1772 connector, which plugs into all North American electric vehicles, are provided. UL listing provides the highest level of longevity, reliability, and functionality available in the market today. The 30-amp VersiCharge is available in bottom-fed and rear-fed wiring options to best meet your electric vehicle charging needs (view larger). The VersiCharge makes it easier than ever to incorporate energy efficient practices into your home (view larger). Siemens’s 30-amp VersiCharge electric vehicle charger is available in two wiring configurations—bottom fed (VC30BLKB) and rear fed (VC30BLKR)—and offers a multitude of easy-to-use features that allow you to effortlessly incorporate energy efficient practices into your everyday life. As technology advances and electric cars become increasingly available on the market, Siemens is dedicated to providing state- of-the-art, versatile battery-charging options to make energy-efficient vehicle use accessible and approachable. With the VersiCharge, you’ll never leave home with a half-charged electric car battery again.Optimized Installation OptionsNot only can the VersiCharge function as a portable charging unit, with a power cord and plug attached so that it can be easily transported between locations, but it comes equipped with a mounting bracket and other hardware for permanent installation at home in your garage, carport, or parking pad. The weatherproof NEMA 4 enclosure, made of 60 percent recycled material with matte finish, is designed to withstand the elements no matter its location. With two VersiCharge wiring options—bottom fed (VC30BLKB) and rear fed (VC30BLKR) units with interchangeable sealing plugs—multiple configurations are feasible. Either unit can be installed over a suitably sized double-gang receptacle box. The bottom-fed VersiCharge’s plug hangs out of the underside of the unit and is intended for use with a receptacle below it. The plug on the rear-fed VersiCharge is hidden in its back and is meant to be used with an outlet behind the unit to mount flush to the wall. And the included mounting bracket regardless of how far apart your studs are spaced, the included mounting bracket can be used almost anywhere, regardless of how far apart your studs are spaced.Making Energy Efficiency EasyThe VersiCharge is jam packed with user-friendly features that make it easier than ever to efficiently charge your electric vehicle. The unit’s standard SAE J1771 connector is not only ergonomic for user comfort, but an integrated holster also keeps debris and dust out of the plug for clean and convenient usage. The included 20-foot cord wraps over the top of the enclosure for expedient storage.Monitor the status of your vehicle’s charge with help from the LED color indication halo that’s visible from across the garage and displays the stage at which your charge stands, from ready to charge to charging to fully charged. Further adjust charging status to specifically fit your schedule with help from the delay timer functionality, which allows you to postpone charging for up to eight hours from the time of plug-in with the press of a button. The VersiCharge begins doing its job as soon as the delay timer has run its course. And regardless of when you choose to charge, the EVSE (electric vehicle supply equipment) power output can be adjusted to complement the outlet’s capability, ranging in increments from a maximum power setting of 7.2 kW to 1.8 kW. Plus, by delivering adjustable, extended amperage options, the VersiCharge keeps up with evolving electric vehicle technology, helping to future proof compatibility over time.About SiemensFounded more than 165 years ago, Siemens is a worldwide industry leader in electronics and electrical engineering, dedicated to innovation, quality, and reliability in the fields of energy, industry, and healthcare. • Had a failure with the first, but Siemens made good on it!
Size: Bottom Fed
Update 5/30 New replacement charger arrived. Service rep kept me informed at every stage of the replacement process, sent me confirmation number and emails. Update 5/22 My charger failed after 47 days of operation. My Volt had just sent me a text letting me know the charge was almost complete. Was about to go outside to move it before my wife came home with our Leaf, when the horn started blowing (interruption in charging). As soon as I opened the garage door, I see the red halo with red fault light. I tried turning it off (circuit breaker) with no luck. I scrambled to find a service number online, but no luck. I did keep the box and it was on it (1-800-241-4453). I was told no one from the department I needed was available and that they would call me in the morning. Received a call the next morning and was given the advice to keep the breaker off for a full hour. Still failed. Now, I'm waiting (day 3) for a confirmation number of the replacement and free shipping label to return the faulty charger. So far so good customer service, I will keep you informed and will update my rating accordingly. Original I installed my Siemens charger a few weeks ago to charge my 2013 Chevy Volt and it has worked great from the beginning. I had an electrician install a 220V plug in my garage. I would recommend that you get the 250V receptacle from Amazon with your purchase. My electrican had never seen that type of receptacle (although his boss knew how to order one). My local hardware store was also clueless. A national brand hardware store had only one on the shelf and I was fortunate to get that one. If anything changes I'll update my review later. ... show more

  • Two units dead in four years. Siemens then replaced with 2nd gen unit
*** Update 4 *** As a last ditch attempt, I escalated my case as high as it would go and made the argument that they must have known about the defect in the 1st gen charger when they replaced my dead 1st gen with another 1st gen one month before the 2nd gen was released and they changed their minds and sent me a new 2nd gen charger ( Siemens VC30GRYHW Versicharge 30-Amp electric vehicle charger indoor only, hardwired installation, with a 14 foot cord ). It's now installed an running fine. Seems about the same except the handle doesn't go into my car as smoothly - maybe I am just not used to the new shape. So, raising up from one star but only to three as reinstalling a charger every 16 months is a pain. *** Update 3 *** 3 years later, the new unit they sent in 2014 died and Siemens is refusing to replace it as it is out of warranty (based upon purchase date of original unit). So that's 2 dead out of 2 units. Also, they do not do repairs and there are no parts available. They encouraged me to buy a new one. As if I'd make that mistake again. Changing my review to one star. *** Update 2 *** My second try with Siemens customer service worked and they sent me out a replacement which doesn't have any of the bad behavior of the old unit. I did have to pay the electrician $150 to come out and replace the unit which was unfortunate. Now my charger behaves as expected: I plug in the car and the car starts charging when the rates get cheap. This has happened without fail for several weeks now - I don't think it ever worked once on the old unit. I don't give it a higher rating because: 1. I am out of pocket the cost to reinstall the new unit. 2. The red glowing led lights for fail can not be turned off so if your unit is outside and fails it strobes the neighborhood with a red light. 3. The mounting bracket is flimsy. The stability of the whole unit depends on the bracket and it's plastic and narrow so it doesn't off much support so the unit feels loose on the wall. 4. The back of the unit against the wall is designed like a perfect wasp/spider breeding ground with lots of little chambers. Combine this with the loose mount and you have a nice little bug farm. It won't hurt the unit as they can't get inside but it seems like poor design on an outdoor unit. *** Update 1 *** After my original review, someone else with a Volt and TOU electricity pricing said that they have had no problems so I restarted my customer service request with Siemens. This time, it's like a different company and they are already looking at sending me a replacement unit. It's looking like I'll have to pay out of pocket for the electrician to replace the unit (it's a hardwired unit), but I'm getting the the sort of customer service I would have expected for a $850 piece of equipment. I'll update this when I get the new unit installed, but raising to two star since I am actually getting customer service. *** Original *** One star Do not buy this charger if you are on time of use rates and your car already has the logic about when to charge for the best rates built in like the Chevy Volt. This charger does not communicate with the car per protocol and if you plug it in and the car doesn't request to start charging within 15 or 20 minutes the unit will go into a fault state that it can't get out of without user intervention. It's annoying to come out to an uncharged car in the morning because Siemens couldn't get the car/charger communication right. To get around this, I have to set the unit's pause of 2,4,6, or 8 hours so that it doesn't go into fault mode. Not only is that not very granular of a pause, this keeps me from remotely putting the car into charge immediately if my plans change. I've tried to reach their customer service about this issue, but it is impossible to get any answer from them. I'm wishing I had gone for another brand. When in fault mode, the unit has two big red lights that turn on and stay on until the unit is rest. There is no way to prevent these lights from turning on in case you have your charger outside and don't want to draw attention to it. You are able to turn off the big green "charging" lights. This charger was installed by an electrician. ... show more

  • Unit broken in 6 month, and the new journey
Size: Bottom Fed
Update (5/21/2013) I have finally received the replacement unit today after calling Siemen every morning. According to the support they were having back-order problem so couldn't ship the unit until now. Surprisingly it's brand new but not refurbished, and there are some nice change with the new unit. I noticed there are few improvement in the newer version I received. 1. The clip on the EVSE Plug has been extended, so it's much easier to plug into the car 2. The hose at the base is also increased in size, so the plug will no longer stuck. 3. In generally, the Versicharge has been modified to make the usage much easier now. So the product is getting better now, you can expect Nissan Stock EVSE usage experience. But at the same time, you will still need to keep your Nissan EVSE just in case. If the unit break, do expect few weeks of going back and forth to receive the replacement unit. Update (5/15/2013) Unfortunately, after less than half year the unit breaks. After a night of charging the unit always has the fault light ON. Contacting customer support is a nightmare as there is no process handling the problem. At first I had to be transferred three times before somebody is willing to help. Then I had to call back everyday for 4 days to finally get a hold of person in charge of Versicharge unit. He promised me to send me a new unit with return shipping label so they can look at the failure. However, it's already two weeks and I have not heard anything from them. I called back again and the process only started from the beginning because I can't reach the Versicharge team. So it's has been three weeks I am without a LV2 charge, and I still don't have any idea when I'll get the issue fixed. With the horrible experience, I no longer recommending purchasing the unit. Original Review (11/5/2012) When I was first in the market for Level 2 EVSE, this product was not released to public yet. But after few weeks of disappointment with other unit, I decided to give this a try because of few reasons. 1. 30 Amp of current, more future proof but not as much as 32 Amp of some unit 2. The unit has NEMA 6-50 plug to the Wall Outlet, so it fits my existing installation 3. The J1772 cable is 20 ft long, a bit longer than many standard 18 ft unit 4. The unit has a nice cable management. You can wrap the cable around the unit and place for J1772 plug in. 5. The price was $250 cheaper compare to other brand, but it is no longer true anymore 6. And as nice surprise, the unit actually comes with Wall Mount Bracket so I didn't have to spend extra. When I received the unit, the product box was opened and damaged because there was no shipping box. I can see the contain was dropping out of box during shipping and the UPS worker just tape the box again. The shipping protection could be a lot better, but thankfully the unit still works so I didn't have to return it. Once installed, I find the J1772 plug to be a bit stiff and hard to plug/unplug, but few trick solves the issue. First, because the unique design of the J1772 plug, it doesn't go in like the Nissan EVSE unit. When insert the J1772 plug, you'll need to give small amount of force to the upward dimension. Without the upward force, the plug goes in but the J1772 won't clip. The charger indicates it's plug in but won't charge. Second, try apply some oil or Vaseline to the outside ring of the plug, then plug in and out few times. This can help smooth the plug friction and make unplug a lot easier. So with the two thing in mind, the unit work very well. The cable is thin and light, so it is easy to hang around and carry with me. The included wall Mount Bracket is also easy to install. We just need two screw into the pole to get it right. The Power cable to the wall is also a bit longer than the other unit, so it's a lot easier to go into outlet as well. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase and looks forward to use the unit for a long time. ... show more
