Not all Sharks are created equal! Our previous Shark was a midrange Lift-Away model that replaced a first-generation Dyson. Want to say we spent $160+. It was a fine model that was slightly better than the outgoing Dyson, but it left a lot to be desired. The cable was short and attached to the base in a horrible spot (where it was likely to get stepped on or tripped over). It also wasn't a powered Lift-Away, and the short hose would easily tip over the base when stretched a short distance. Handed it down to a college kid after 5 years and decided it was time to splurge on something better. Enter the Shark Vertex. Not too expensive but far from cheap, the Vertex sits on the high-end of the Shark lineup with all the bells & whistles. Comes with a 30ft cord (5 ft longer than the average) seated in a much more useful position, powered Lift-Away, stretchier hose, the newer tangle-resistant dual roller, and....best of all....immense suction power! The first pic shows it freshly unboxed. The second pic shows the carnage it pulled from our carpet, one day after our housecleaner was here (she uses a midrange Shark stick vacuum that is still fairly new). No joke, this baby doesn't mess around! We do have a thick-coated dog that sheds pretty often, but no doubt most of what's pictured here was missed by the other Shark. We could drop the mic and stop here, but the other perks are worth mentioning. You don't really appreciate what it means to have 5 extra feet of cord until you have it! Then there's the newer roller design that doesn't tangle. If you deal with pet hair like I do, this is a must-have feature. No need to keep that nasty set of scissors around for clearing out the rollers. Go ahead and toss them for good! And if you are a current Shark owner without "powered" Lift-Away, you'll appreciate being able to get under low-height furniture like coffee tables and entertainment centers without having to break out the hose attachment. Just engage the Lift-Away feature and the main vacuum head stays running with the ability to glide underneath. Simple and effective! Speaking of simple, the power button is now at your fingertips on the handle, with different settings for floor height. The dual-roller design uses a soft padded roller that easily collects hair, dirt, and cheerio-sized bits from tile and hardwood floors, including the little grout crevices between tiles. The front facing LEDs are a nice touch as well and fairly bright. As for the cons, there aren't many, but there are a few minor gripes... 1. When you adjust to the lowest floor setting with the least suction power, small rugs still have a tendency to lift up and get snagged, tripping the red light and stopping the rollers. Doesn't happen too often, and when it does, just cycle the power off/on from the handle and keep going. 2. The collection bin is somewhat on the smaller side compared to my last Shark, but on the flipside, it does seem to empty better. It could also be that it fills faster because of how much it is actually collecting! 3. While powered Lift-Away is helpful at times, it can become a little tedious for long periods of use. The speed of the rollers causes the vacuum head to pull away from you. So when you pull the head back toward you, there's a good deal of resistance. 4. While the hose is longer and stretchier than the mid-range model I owned before, it could still be a bit longer. Very, very minor gripe here. Overall, extremely happy with the purchase! The newer model, the Shark Stratos, is basically the same vacuum with a slightly cheaper frame and hose, although it does add an "odor neutralizer" feature (uses a cartridge that has to be replaced every 3 months or so, which seems gimmicky to me). Personally, I'd get the Vertex unless the Stratus is marked way down. Cheers! ... show more

Best vacuum i've had in a while. It is so powerful it pulls me across the carpet. It's easy to put together and has easy filters to clean. Love the powerfins so hair doesn't get tangled in the roller. Cord is decently long and the lift away feature is perfect for my furniture and stairs. And let's not forget that it is PINK :D ... show more

I’ve only used it once so far. The suction was amazing. I love the settings for different floors and the hair guard is saving my life. I have long hair and my 10 year old Shark was struggling. The amount of dust and debris this vacuum picked up in one bedroom carpet blew me away. Assembly was so easy. Just plug it all together. It’s pretty lightweight. You have lots of plug and play options. Great attachments. It’s about the average size of a standard vacuum. I really feel like the quality is there to justify the money spent on this purchase. I work as a professional housekeeper so I do know a thing or two about vacuums, I got this one with the purpose of using it for work but regretted it. I won’t be sending it back because I feel I got it at a fair price ($250 on sale), I’ll start with the pros. For the price I got it it’s great honestly, some vacuums now are 500-1,00 which is crazy and if your buying one to use it for your home you don’t need to spend all that much because every vacuum does the same basic things so why pay that high price when you can pay a more comfortable price and get similar results. There’s so much rave about the new Dyson roller ball vacuum and I want to say that this one’s just as powerful as that one and for a more comfortable price ( I think the Dyson is like $800) I didn’t get why it’s so overhyped and over priced, it does look more modern but it is a pain to drag that thing around it’s super heavy, this shark one is a bit lighter. I like that this vacuum has LED lights which is very helpful especially if you have pets or messy kids, it’s easier to target spots on hardwood floors that are messier. This has 3 different features that work nicely and is simple to use once you get used to it the different buttons. One of the reasons I chose this one is because the canister part is removable and it can be used with just the stick so it can go under beds or furniture, that is very very convenient for a thorough clean (another point over Dyson). This vacuum is cute! Yes it’s a nice rosy gold pink and the attachments it comes with (3) are great, you can use them to get on the sides and under cushions of couches, to suck the dust out of base boards or get in those crevices like between washer and dryer, in the side of the fridge, behind furniture and also for pet hair. The suction power on this thing is crazy which is both a pro and a con because it’ll pick up alot of hair crumbs and all of that but it’s so strong that the vacuum runs away on its own 😅. This can be a really big pro tho because If you aren’t trying to get perfect vacuum lines or anything this vacuum does the work for you, it moves on it’s own so you’d only struggle when pulling it back or if you have to carry it around a big house or something. So with that being said Im happy with my vacuum except for the things I’ll mention below but before I get into the cons Id like to suggest that if your need to use this for home or business you need something that’s easy to use and works well, all vacuums do the same basic stuff which is collect hairs and particles of dirt, if it’s not bad quality and you use just about any vacuum ( I recommend the grey shark UV725, gets the job done, lower price, comes with similar handy attachments, headlights and is light weight). The biggest con to any vacuum is if it’s heavy 😖 and this one is, and like i said it’s suction power is strong so instead of you dragging it it drags you, after I’m done using for too long my arm and lower back start to hurt, and that shouldn’t happen for me specially because I clean 2-4 houses regularly and my body has built up a bit of strength to push a vacuum back and forth daily. So that means for an average person it might be a bit hard to use as well or maybe I’m just weak. Another sort of con is that you must be careful of any big or sharp object on the floor or any long string that can get wrapped around the roller because this thing sucks I’m everything and you couldn’t damage it if you aren’t careful. This also need to be cleaned, you must get in there and cut off any hair wrapped around the fins or else the hair or or type of string will end up cutting through the fins because it spins so fast so try to stay on top of that every few uses. Other than that this vacuum is great honestly. Keeping your home clean is and should be important, it’s important to have a clean space that you can come to be have a bit of peace from the outside world and not the other way around so when looking for things that are meant to improve your home don’t be lazy, do your research, accept that it’s a process of trail and error to find what works best for you and your abilities and schedule. As a housekeeper something I notice a lot is that people are enticed to buy expensive things or random gadgets, tools and products for cleaning and they get exited about purchasing them, use them once or twice and quickly becomes something that just sits in a storage closet collecting dust. A lot of social media influencers or bloggers will recommend products or tools that look cool or feel nice or smell nice and people will buy them thinking it’ll help them stay on top of their cleaning but it won’t. So really think before buying all those expensive different products. You must have self discipline and not rely on motivation to do those things. To get your house cleaned you don’t need a variety of products, you need good effective products that give consistent results and most important you must know how, when and where to use them. If you go on social media and look for cleaning videos you’ll get alot of “cleaning tips and tricks” that don’t work or aren’t done properly and you’ll end up messing up your house so get on YouTube and do your research. Don’t think of this as an expense, instead as an investment. I hope that if you’ve gotten to the end of this very long review that it helps you out and if your having trouble staying on top of your cleaning at home don’t beat yourself up and shift your mindset and relationship with cleaning.
