It's not very bright. Looks great in pitch black. Not like what I thought it would be. You can see the twinkle disk moviing behind the stars when using the southern hemisphere dusk. I think it would be much better if it had a brighter light. Also, it looked better when I projected it on a distant wall rather than the ceiling. Spreads better when projected from a distance. Do I like the product? yes. It's pretty cool when you get the hang of it. Is it worth the price? Yes and no. Should come with more fisk to make it sweeter. ... show more

Once you figure out how to work this unit, it is actually very impressive. I was concerned about the brightness of the light, especially considering that the newer, more expensive flux model has a brighter one, but in the dark it is absolutely fine. I am attaching a still image of one of the two included discs as projected on my ceiling. I am also including a short video showing the stars twinkling with the other included disc and one of the included nature sound effects playing. With the twinkling and the sound effects it.really creates a stunning display! My only complaint is that the manual was entirely in Japanese (use a translation app), and it was a bit tricky to figure out how to go about getting the discs in with the correct side up. Also, please note that the twinkling effect requires that the sky rotation feature be turned on! I’m very happy with it, and would recommend at this price. ... show more

The instructions are only in Japanese. The item came on for a few seconds and made noises, then went dark and stopped working. Pretty expensive for such complete failure.

It's pretty clear the default disc it ships with is actually meant for its brighter and much more expensive brother the "homestar flux" because in a pitch black room I could barely see it. it looked like a grainy grey strip rather than the Milky Way. HOWEVER I had also bought a separate disc of the Dolphin Nebula and that while not perfect is visible and pleasant, meaning the unit itself is fine and it's just the default disc doesn't really handle well. I do wish it was brighter, but seeing as the Matataki is around $100 USD and the the Flux is around $250 I could literally buy 2 of them and still come out cheaper. ... show more

We love this thing. Can't beat it for the price. Wish the disks were cheaper and easier to come buy...and there would be one of the moon. Either way, solid product - highly recommend if your hovering over the 'buy' button.

This is what I wanted to help me sleep at night, and it works exactly the way I wanted. The only thing I wish I had known was that there was a newer model of the Homestar available. I believe the newer model has more star disks available. But, what I have is just fine.

This product is not worth the price even when discounted. We could barely see the star patterns unless the room was perfectly dark and the stars were blurry (even after focusing). Furthermore, none of the celestial objects were colored or twinkling as might be expected. At the time of purchase, there were plenty of devices that beamed stars on the wall for much less. While most were inaccurate representations, at least they could be viewed in a less than perfectly black room. ... show more
