  • Definitely works for the PS4.
I purchased this drive to expand the storage space on my gen. 1 PS4. Many of the reviews reported sketchy results when trying to pair with a PS4 so I was hesitant but decided to chance it. I am glad I did. Out of the box, I plugged it into one of the two USB ports on the front of the machine and it was immediately recognized as a USB device. The system gave me a prompt to do something with the device which gave me a shortcut to the device settings. It allowed me to format the drive and I about 2 minutes, it was up and running. The migration of nearly 500GB of game data took a little more than an hour but that is not the fault of the Seagate drive. Games seem a bit smoother but that could be just from having a nearly empty native drive. I was hoping that internet heavy games like Fortnite would not heat up the console as much, but no luck there. The twitchiness is gone though. All in all I am very happy with this Seagate drive on my PS4. I wish I had sprung for it a long time ago and I think I might have been better off getting the 8TB drive but hopefully by the time that becomes an issue we will be looking at the PS5. ... show more

  • 4TB storage for PC and Mac
I needed a backup drive for all my video files as my old 1 TB drive was getting full. I got this drive because it had the smallest percentage of bad reviews saying they had disk failure, as that was my #1 concern. Most of the bad reviews were about slow transfer speeds. I paid an extra $3 to get the silver over the black because I thought it would have more metal, which it does. The silver is an aluminum top to the drive. The black is plastic, which is not only flimsier but also makes the drive run hotter. Aluminum conducts heat well. I don't understand why they don't make all of these things completely out of aluminum... I was expecting to have to format the drive, but it was working immediately on my MacBook Pro, and almost immediately on my PC desktop (took a minute to auto-install drivers). Without formatting, I could use on the Mac and PC. I did not install any of the Seagate software. I measured the actual write speeds for both PC and Mac, and they are both averaging 80-100 MB/sec. That was way faster than my old 1 TB drive, so I was pleasantly surprised with this drive. I have only used this 1 day, so I will update if there are any issues in the next couple years. ... show more

  • Fast and Very Accurate
Best thing since WD-40 and cordless drills. Very easy to set up and FAST! Backed up 2.5 TB in about 2 hrs on 4 different computers One Win 7 laptop, Three Win 10 desktops. Free software also is a plus, gotta fool with it a little. But the external drive itself is flawless. Manually made folders for different computers and logged backups into each one. I use EASEUS ToDo backup, and had each backup verified as to accuracy. NO ERRORS!! So much better than juggling USB jumpdrives, the larger ones, 512gb and up are unreliable most of the time. This Seagate you can pickup, plug it in, and copy whatever you want. I'd buy again... ... show more

  • Lasts about 3 months - crap adapter interface
HD was used to consolidate files to organize them. Data transferred on, stopped responding. Seems to be an issue with the adapter board plugged into the HD - if you hold the cable just so, the drive will spin up. Tried multiple cables. Saving grace is I can recover the HD by dropping it in a HD reader. Support options suck - it is just the adapter that is shot - but they want he entire drive shipped back. I get to eat the cost of shipping both ways? Awesome. I'll just use my reader that works. ... show more

  • 100% Unreliable - now totally useless
I have a number of Seagate drives - desktop and portable. Overall, I have been very satisfied. However, this drive has been a disaster - 100% unreliable and has now become now totally useless. I have had to reformat the drive at least 4 times and now even reformatting doesn't help. I cannot recommend this drive for anything other than a paperweight! I don't know if the newer versions are any better. A huge disappointment from Seagate. ... show more

  • Another great Seagate product but.…
As an Mac Time Machine user, I didn’t care for all the Seagate proprietary installation software that involved mandatory subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud for photo storage. A huge hassle. I ended up having to wipe the drive and reformatting with Apple’s Disk Utility. Aside from that, it’s a great value. ... show more

  • I have several. That should tell you something.
I keep two of these at both my home and my cottage (where I have been working during the pandemic). I use them with my MacBook Pro. In each location, one drive is used for Apple's TimeMachine with hourly incremental backups. The second unit at each house is used for a nightly Carbon Copy Cloner backup. Of course, everything is also backed up to my 10 TB iCould storage and Microsoft OneDrive. So far, all four of these drives are rock solid. I have had older smaller (2 TB) versions that have been running for years. Additionally, I have a 5 TB version. ... show more

  • Works great on Xbox one s!
I bought it for use with my Xbox one s. It was as described. Arrived fast. It was easy to set up for use. Just plugged it in and pressed format. Games run just fine. No lag or frame drop. It writes pretty fast so I don't have to wait long for a game to download. It doesn't take up alot of space and it's powerd by the USB connection to Xbox so thats a plus that I don't have to find and extra spot on my surge protector. So far it's exactly what I needed. ... show more
