I can drop it without fear any gears may break. No resetting the clock for different time zones or daylight savings. Will not run fast or slow. Runs on 9v and has a battery tester. There is a hole to hang it on a nail, so it lives right above my head. Keep it on the normal volume and it wakes me up fine. Instructions are provided on the back, so you don't need the paperwork. My hearing has gotten really bad and this is the only thing that'll wake me now. It sounds like a fire alarm going off, so it gets your attention! My is the one that just counts down backwards until it hits zero and goes off. Since I only need it once or twice a year (I'm retired) this works just fine for me. I already have a clock beside the bed and this little item stays inside the bedside drawer until I need it.

I am on my 4th Screaming Meanie. I ordered this one because my 220 broke. I ordered too quickly and ended up with this one. It works but lacks the important feature of a clock. It’s my suggestion if you are ordering one to pay the extra for the clock. If you don’t you have to count out the hours between the time you set it and the desired wake up time. So if you go to bed at 10 and wake up at 6, this system needs to be set for 8 hours. The 220 you just set the timer for 6 am. For some this isn’t an issue, for me I don’t have a set bed time so the math can get fuzzy. Overall, it is still effective, battery life is good, and it’s loud enough to upset the family at 5 am. I will be keeping this one as a back up but I will be buying another 220.

Although not an "alarm clock" the wakeup signal for the time of day can be preset the day/night before. If the original signal does not awaken you on first attempt. it will continue to signal every few minutes until turned off! I wear hearing aids during the day and the signal is extremely loud - loudest one I have heard

Just like anything. Take something great and make it cheap while raising the price. I've been using the screaming meaning for a decade or more. I'm a very heavy sleeper and they are just the thing I need to get my arse out of bed in the morning. I have been noticing however that the price steadily climbs and the longevity steadily declines. There is a list of these on my previous orders, this very one I bought one year ago and it quit me A couple weeks ago. Another one quit me this week. I am such a heavy sleeper that it takes three of these to get me up. But I can find nothing else as loud so I am stuck paying nearly 40 bucks every time these damn things fail to get another one. In fact I am on here this morning ordering another one and that's when I decided to leave a review. If you don't need anything this loud it's really not worth the money. But I do so I am stuck paying $120 a year on average for all three of these. When they used to last many years and cost 20 bucks. Now I realize things go up in price as the years go on. What angers me is when the quality of the product goes down as the price goes up.
