Top Amazon Reviews

  • Actually 4.8 stars, but still for great for the money
Style: Schwinn 470
I would deduct 1.2 points for packaging, and some issues with the user manual, and one of the features I miss on the display. The shipment arrived on time but the box was busted up pretty badly. I could not rescue it. The Amazon Driver stayed near by while I inspected the contents to make sure nothing was damaged inside, then he helped me place it in my entryway after I established that nothing was wrong the machine itself or the internal packaging. I am over 70 years old and found no problems assembling the machine by myself, although I did take all afternoon to do so. The user manual was fairly well designed except that some of the detail images were way too small for my old eyes to pick up 'details'. For that reason I deducted .03 points from the overall score, (BIGGER DETAIL IMAGES PLEASE). You don't need any extra tools to assemble this. They are all included with the clearly labeled hardware. With a little planning this can be easily assembled by one person. As I said, I am over 70 years old, I have a bad back, and I had no issues assembling it. The heaviest part to move is the main flywheel assembly, and even with a bad back I was able to pick it up and carry it into the living room for assembly, and in it's permanent location. Another option I considered to move it would be to tilt the assembly onto an old beach towel and pull it across the floor to the location to assemble, but, as I mentioned, it was light enough for me to carry a short distance (about 14 feet). I have been using it for a week now and have only one complaint - it does not have a step counter. The machine is very sturdy and supports the 230 lbs of my body weight without issue or noise. It is smooth and very quiet compared to my cubi I have been using. I also like the customizable display options for each user. Before purchasing the 470 my wife and I read a review online. The reviewer noted that the machine's lowest resistance level was still much higher than other machines. I have no other experience with ellipticals, but my wife does and she confirms that it is harder than those she uses at the gym. That being said, after a week both she and I have improved our endurance and I can now do 30 minutes non stop at the lowest sittings, She was spending 30 minutes on the elliptical at the gym and it took her three days to get to 30 minutes. Neither of us has tried any of the default programs yet. We still need to get in better shape. My greatest complaint is the packaging. I think the packaging they use is more suitable for delivery to a department store or fitness store, not to a residence where the deliver van has to be loaded with objects of various sizes and weights. The riggers of transporting a large item like this requires stronger materials. The carboard box was the consistency of dry bread. It practically fell apart in my hands. The Styrofoam survived the shipping, but not the unpacking. Beads of Styrofoam popped out all over the place no matter how carefully I removed parts or tape. It was a total mess to clean up and accounts for most of my assembly time. For that reason I would deduct .17 from the total score. Overall it is a great machine for the price and I'm getting back tone in muscles I rarely use any more, even after only a week. It's a great bargain. ... show more

  • Excellent value - highly recommend
Style: Schwinn 411
I’ve owned much nicer ellipticals than this one and I’m super impressed. Easy to assemble, very quiet, great stride and resistance levels, doesn’t take up a lot of space, and works great for my HIIT workouts. I’ve had it a week and done some strenuous workouts, and so far no squeaking - though I won’t be surprised if it does start making noise, as that’s pretty typical for these types of machines regardless of price. Only thing I’ll say is that the distance and calories are completely incorrect, to the point where it’s laughable. I don’t pay attention to that stuff but if you do, you should definitely get a different one. ... show more

  • Very Solid and Smooth - Just Not as Impressed with Console, Speakers and Fan
Style: Schwinn 430
Overall, very solid and feels like it should last. Moves smoothly and quietly and is mechanically very good. (I did have problems with delivery - Amazon initially delivered a used Sunny stationary bike (complete with the shipping label showing the previous purchaser's name and address!). When I told the 2 Amazon delivery people, they said that "by law" they had to leave it then just walked to their truck and drove away. I'm still waiting for pickup of the wrong item...) When the proper Schwinn 430 arrived, it appeared to be new and in good condition. Assembly was straight-forward once I was able to get everything out of the tightly packed box. Tools are included although you might want to use your own tools if you have them. There is only 1 step (installing console mast) where it would be nice to have a third hand to hold something while attaching bolts. I did wipe the rails with silicone and made sure everything moved smoothly before trying it out. Others have reported issues with the rollers so I'm going to keep an eye on them and keep the rails clean and lubricated. The machine is comfortable to use and feels ergonomically correct. Even though I've never been accused of having long legs, I'm glad I got a machine with a 20" stride and not shorter. The incline adjustment makes a big difference on which muscles in my legs are used and the manual adjustment is very quick and easy to use. Resistance adjustment is easy with several buttons on the console. Resistance level is shown on the lower display but you have to scroll through 3 screens and you can't show elapsed time and resistance at same time. My only real disappointments are with the console. The built in speakers are small and sound muddy - my iPad has better sound. There is no bluetooth connection, and the only input for sound is via a ⅛" jack. I was going to buy an adapter but then realized I'm better off just not using those speakers. The built in fan makes more noise than it moves air (not surprising as the whole thing runs off a 9 volt adapter that plugs into the wall and connects via a skinny wire to the front of machine). The dual screen is monochrome and definitely looks like it belongs on equipment made many years ago. My upper screen initially had black areas scattered throughout - may have been from pressure on it during shipping and is slowly improving with time. It has multiple programs for various levels of exercise, but I would be more inclined to use them with a better interface. Most of the time I just prefer to adjust the resistance (and incline) manually and not bother with the programs and stats. As noted above, I wish that I could view resistance level and elapsed time together. One other minor pet peeve; although the assembly manual was included, you have to go online to see the operation manual. I'm all for saving trees, but the paper saved is extremely small compared to all the packing material that comes with the elliptical, and I personally prefer having a manual that I can look at anywhere and add notes to. Overall a good machine that feels professional in quality. The console needs a major refresh (bluetooth, better interface and graphics) but for me that's not a really big deal. I would still be happy with just resistance adjustment buttons, time and perhaps heart rate readouts. I was looking for something that felt solid and enjoyable to use but didn't cost a fortune, and this fits the bill. ... show more
