  • Super deluxe best buy
Amazing. I've owned 4 of these not even close to this one. Top notch. Very well designed. Super sturdy and I'm leaving it on the car full time. Looks cool. Hold three bikes too. It's compact folded up you could leave it in the trunk year round til.you need it. Setup took a sec but once set it wasn't that hard. Took a out 15 mins first time. Next time I could see it taking 5. ... show more

  • Wow, I had no idea!!
So I've seen these racks of different makes and models floating around for years and always thought these were the cheesiest things ever compared to my big, beefy, permanently mounted Yakima rack that you could dangle the whole car from, if you have to. Then a friend bought one and I saw it in action and I thought to myself, you know, my bikes are all under 30 lbs. Why do I need a rack that could withstand a bazooka hit? Well, short answer: I bought this, it attaches nearly effortlessly to my Hondas (Element and Accord). It detaches truly effortlessly just by popping the trunk/hatch. It's light, but way beefier than I ever anticipated. It's so universally effortless and secure and a pleasure to use that I'll literally throw the bikes on the car, even if there isn't any riding scheduled to planned. • Adjustable, fits three MTBs, easy on the vehicle
We bought the Bones rack to replace our venerable Hollywood Rack which damaged 3 vehicles over the time we used it. The main problem with the Hollywood Rack (and most trunk racks) is that the weight of the rack bears on the sheet metal of the vehicle, so you have to be careful or you will dent the metal. The design of the Saris Bones rack places the weight of the bikes and rack on the bumper. This is a huge improvement. The 6 straps securely hold the rack in place when it's full loaded. The rack is highly adjustable and will fit any vehicle except a pickup (duh) - and what's great about it is that you can decrease the angle between the lower and upper legs so that the rack protrudes more from the car to make sure wide-handled MTBs don't damage the vehicle. Adjusting the angles of the legs and support arms is a bit fiddly, but you can slide the legs off the ends of the aluminum spline. Being able to adjust the width of the support arms for the bikes is GREAT. Bottom line: by alternating the direction of the bikes, I can get a fatbike and two dual-suspension enduro MTBs on this thing. If three bikes are on the rack, I do have to wrap the stanchion tubes for the forks so they don't get scratched by the next bike. But if you're only carrying two bikes, just use the inner and outer supports. UPDATE: we have some new dual suspension mountain bikes that have trouble fitting on the rack, especially if they're carbon frames. The clamps are designed for round tubes, and even some aluminum frames aren't round. If the bike's top tube is beefy and the rear shock is tight to the underside of the top tube, it could be tricky or impossible to put the bike on the rack. We're also avoiding putting 3 bikes on at the same time because there just isn't enough room for modern MTBs' wide handlebars and forks to easily fit side-by-side. It's still a great product, but owners of new MTBs shouldn't expect to get 3 bikes on at once easily. ... show more

  • Trustworthy, solid, flexible for different vehicles, easy to use
I have used it for two 8-hour trips (both of these with heavier bikes - 2 old 80's roadbikes once, and 1 80's roadbike and a hybrid the 2nd time), a 2-hour trip (2 new light road bikes and a new light hybrid) and a 1-hour trip (2 new light roadbikes). And a couple of times for short jaunts elsewhere. I am really happy with this. After some experimenting, I found optimal placement for the inside bike pedal to not scratch the car and to be able to avoid the pedals of the 2nd bike - inside pedal zip-tied to the downward support - and to keep the pedals from rotating and potentially scratching the back of the car. After all of that, I know for sure that I trust this thing with my bikes. I recommend that you drive a couple of miles and then stop and re-tighten the straps that hold it on, as sometimes they jiggle a little bit loose after you start driving (not the manufacturer's fault - if anything, it would be my own fault at time of installation). I loaned this out since it can be easily adjusted to fit various cars. No paint or clear coat scratching (except where I incorrectly tied it to the car the first time - my fault - find places to attach the straps where they aren't laying against / touching / rubbing against the clear coat), but there could be a little bit of clear coat smudging where the rubber feet sit on the trunk (not scratches though). Nothing that is very noticeable though, you have to look for it. It is easy to attach and use, gets easier each time, although because of its flexibility and security there are several (necessary) steps to attaching it to the car and attaching the bikes to it. These steps are easy, though. ... show more

  • Worked w/ 2016 CX9
Worked well with my 2016 CX-9, even though it wasn’t listed on the product’s website as one of the make/models that were compatible It worked well with two full size bike adult bikes (hybrid) & my 7 year old’s bike. The adult bikes did need to be Tetris’d together in order to be attached side by side. I used it on a 5 hour car-ride; max 76mph. Average driving speed 70mph. I did have to make some adjustments to make it work properly for instance, the arms that extended downward - I had to place them on the outside to avoid them sitting on the license plate. Make sure you put some kind of covering on the pedals for the bike closest to the car - it can def scratch the car (I used two socks and that worked well). While you’re at it, you might as well cover all of the pedals, because my middle bike’s got pretty scratched up from the outside bike’s pedals. Otherwise, if used properly … great product! I haven’t tried 3 adult bikes, but it was fine w/ 2 adult and 1 child ... show more

  • Harnesses Broke Off Driving Down the Highway
We purchased this bike rack to take small bike trips with our 2 children. We followed the installation guides completely and only loaded 2 bikes onto the 3 capacity bike rack. The rack seemed sturdy enough for the first 3 months, but today the 2 harnesses holding the 2 kids bikes (each about 20 lbs) came off as we were riding on the highway. Both bikes fell off in the middle of the road and with it the bike rack. Luckily, we were able to move to the shoulder quickly and clear the road, but this was extremely dangerous and clearly not what you would expect from a well reviewed bike rack. The bikes had all three harnesses attached. Looking at the bike rack after the incident, it looks like 2 of the plastic harnesses holding the 2 bikes to the main supports ripped off from the main support and then knocked the bike rack off the trunk of our car. Needless to say, we are going to request a refund. I do not recommend this product and would definitely not buy again. ... show more

  • Excellent Product
Recently purchased this trunk rack after borrowing the Saris Bones 2 Bike Trunk Rack. We have two large bike (Electra Cruiser 7D (mens) and Electra Townie (womens). These bikes are big and heavy! We decided to purchase the Bones 3 for additional space, but we ended up using the two clips closest to the car. We have a housemate that bikes too so we know we can securely carry both our bikes and his mountain bike. This rack fits both our cars, 2011 Mini Cooper Hardtop (with Hatch Hugger attachments) and older Honda Accord. We have traveled far on freeways and winding mountain roads. Takes some time to get adjustments correct - afterward no issues with clearance going up and down steeper driveways. I also have the Saris Tube Adapter for my Townie - works better than other Tube Adapters I have borrowed in the past. Over all great set up! Lifetime warranty is nice too. Only con - you can't lock your bikes to the rack and rack is not theft resistant. If you want something like that you will be paying upwards of $1000 for a set up. We decided it is worth just unloading and locking the bikes nearby if we stop somewhere along the way. I have written this review on my own without compensation of any kind. ... show more

  • A great bike rack.
I bought the three bike version so I have more room to mount a bike or two without worrying about parts touching together. It's a little confusing to install "right out of the box" so I would suggest watching the demo videos from Jarvis. Once you understand how it works, it's easy to install and remove. Prepare to have extra rope or straps to keep your wheels from spinning, and to secure your front wheel to your bike frame so the handlebars don't wobble back and forth. There's no way to lock the rack to your car, so, it may be wise to lock it IN your car while you are riding--unless you are trusting of your environment, or simply don't care. It's worth the price unless you have a trailer hitch. With a trailer hitch, there are other options that are a little more costly but more convenient as well. I'm glad I bought this bike rack. ... show more
