  • Works well, and nice reach
I'm a big fan of the One+ system due to the huge variety of tools available and how well they have all performed for me. I upgraded to this from a B&D polesaw, 18v, that is about 12 years old because I didn't want to drop more money on batteries. I like this unit how the head is sitting at an angle; coming from a previous straight saw, this adds HUGE amounts of cutting versatility and ease. A straight saw makes it impossible to cut stuff directly overhead because the weight of the branches dropping will pinch the blade/chain. This unit helps prevent that (still possible if you are ignorant) making the advertised reach actually usable. It also reduces your dependance to need a ladder. The oiler mechanism isn't very good...however my old saw had no oiler and you simply had to manually squirt some oil on the chain every few minutes worth of cutting. So from that perspective, this is certainly an upgrade except for the leaking everywhere and dripping down the pole making a mess. Lastly, being part of the One+ system, this is cheaper to purchase and operate because I already have battery packs and chargers, and versatility with battery pack sizes. Very pleased with this purchase. I also purchased 2x "replacement" extension shafts from a ryobi parts dealer to give me additional reach. While the unit certainly is capable of pushing voltage the extra 6 feet, the unit becomes too wobbly / unstable to position and actually use. One additional extension is doable, so I can trim stuff about 15' high before needing a ladder. ... show more

  • So far, so good!
Coming from a 68 year old woman, this thing is the truth. I am not a yard person by any means, but this cordless pole saw is easy for me to manage. I had several small issues with shrubs hanging over my fence from a ditch that lines my property. I ordered this saw to clean the fence line and cut some small branches hanging. It was easy to handle and cut what was needed. ... show more

  • Ragged cut but works great!
I debated whether to purchase a 14 ft pole saw/lopper vs this 9 ft cordless Ryobi pole chainsaw. I chose the Ryobi pole chainsaw -- great choice! Well engineered design -- effortless cut; useful length; reasonable weight & excellent balance; 'One+' battery interchangeable with other Ryobi tools; easy disassembly for storage. An addtl 5 ft extension would have kept me off the ladder (don't do as I did -- very dangerous even with ladder securely tied to the tree!), but it would make this tool too top-heavy & unwieldy. Chain speed barely adequate & a bit anemic but OK for less than 3" dia branches. The cut was a bit too ragged for pruning -- lopper or finer tooth saw leaves a cleaner cut -- which left me concerned about how well the larger cuts would heal. Excellent tool. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Works great
I only used it to cut down one giant tree I had so I cant speak to how much use this thing can take over time, but after the tree I did this thing still ran like new. It didn't use up batteries as fast as I thought it would, and the bar was enough to cut any of the branches I came across. Since I will likely never use it again, I appreciate how it comes apart in sections so I can store it away without taking up valuable room. ... show more

  • Safe, Effective Trail Clearing Tool Safe, Effective Trail Clearing Tool
I help keep the riding and hiking trails clear in the State Park adjacent to my small farm. The invasive Autumn Olives grow so quickly that within a single season they are encroaching on the trails. Even the strongest power loppers weren’t up to the job—I’d already broken several—so I needed something more powerful. With good reason, I’m afraid of chainsaws but a pole saw seemed like a good option. It took me over a year to get up the courage to use this pole saw, but now I love it! As a smallish older person without much upper body strength, I was able to handle the tool safely by myself. I made exhilarating progress without draining the battery entirely. Warning: make sure you wear full protective gear not only for your hands, face and head but for your arms and legs as well. Invest in a pair of chainsaw chaps before using this tool. If you already have other Ryobi One system tools, this pole saw will be a great addition to your arsenal. ... show more

  • Flimsy
With or without the intermediate section installed, the working end deflects about an inch. I think I received a refurished one. It was delivered in a plain cardboard box with no packing materials. The box on one end was open and a wrench was missing. It was sold with no battery or charger, but the instructions indicated that it had one of each. I think that perhaps the seller bought it and sold the tool and the battery/charger separately. Being refurished, would be even more profit. The delivery was late and it prevented my help from being there when I had scheduled the job. I requested the $16.55 charge to be refunded and the seller promptly acted on my request. If it had been free shipping. I have physical problems, so it took a great deal of effort and it took days to trim two pine trees up to about nine feet off the ground. It took about 40 minutes and it caused me to be thoroughly exhausted. It took two more days to drag the branches about 50 feet. I am going to loosen the gray parts that looks like they are fastened to the black poles with a rivet (I think), add epoxy, and reconnect everything. Since I used it, the tool is even looser. I am concerned with the safety. If that doesn't work, I will get a pvc pipe to splint the shaft. If I slice it length wise and us a few hose clamps, it should be more safe and secure. It will be ugly, but it's so crazy, it just might work. ... show more

  • Sturdy at shorter lengths
I could make it longer to reach further, but it becomes more top heavy and harder to handle. Just two extensions is enough to reach the tops on a ladder. Cuts easily, but does like to bind up due to lack of fine control at a distance. It is a hassle having to put the chain back on when it jumps off the track, but all chainsaws have this issue, so no points off for that ... show more
