Description

Seal It Right is an easy to use sealant for installation and maintenance of direct vent appliances, such as gas burning systems and pellet stoves. Becomes tough and flexible with air curing and further hardens with heat. Resists vibrations, cracking, fumes, gasses, moisture and acids formed by gas combustion by-products. Due to its high solids content, it will not shrink or turn to brittle powder.

It is better than silicone because it can withstand a higher temperature - 800 F. I used it on my wood stove pipes, just above the stove. It has a nice black color and overruns clean up nicely with water immediately after you put it on. I used some when I put the pipes together, but I still had some leaks so I put a thick coating around the pipe seam areas. When my stove gets real hot I can smell the compound as it gives off a bit of an odor. As the pipe expands and contracts I have noticed that the seam of caulk cracks(even though there is some pliability to it) and I have to re-apply to spots. Not completely satisfied, but it is better than the less expensive silicone. On the other hand this stuff is not cheap either. ... show more

I used this on the top of the wood stove where it meets the pipe. The caulk cured for a few days before I light a fire and there was no smell whatsoever. I suspect the people complaining about a smell didn't let the stuff dry adequately.

It smelt very strong and is not nearly rated for the 800 degrees they claim. My flu was 700 max when hit with a temperature gun and after two burns the silicone turned white and into literal chalk and crumbs off. Also smelt very strong and stunk up the entire house
