Had one of the solar ones and it's so unpredictable no matter how I mess with the settings. Love this one enough to buy a second. One month in and battery is still good. I use it just twice a day (open in morning, close at night on schedule) so I believe it should last a good while.

I had a run chicken door for about 2 years and then the control unit stopped working properly. I contacted the support team and they were very diligent with suggestions on diagnostics and options to replace parts. In the end, I decided to buy a complete new unit. So glad I did. There were several improvements including the ability to control the door with a phone app. It installed in minutes, the instructions were flawless, and we are very happy with the new automated chicken door.

I've had this chicken coop door for over a year now. I am extremely satisfied would this purchase. I have not had to replace the battery so far. It's been reliably opening and closing every morning and every evening. This is so far better than the metal gate with the string that I had before I am so satisfied with this product. I highly recommend this.

Paid more for this brand than I would have had to pay for others because it SEEMED to have good reviews and features I desired. Was NOT worth the money. #1 - I thought I could program it remotely with the app on my phone. No, you have to have the phone next to the door to program. (This limitation was not indicated in the product description.) #2 - The batteries definitely DO NOT last 1 year as advertised. I bought brand-new batteries each time. At most, they lasted 1-2 months. Sometimes they only lasted a week or two. Had to change the batteries FREQUENTLY, and therefore had to check every day to make sure batteries were not dying and make sure chickens were not trapped inside. (I am in the Carolinas, so extremely cold weather was not an issue for the batteries.) #3 - VERY IMPRACTICAL BATTERY ACCESS DESIGN. This was the biggest problem. You have to UNSCREW THE ENTIRE MOTOR from the door to remove the batteries. Again, this was required anywhere from every 1-2 weeks to 1-2 months. The screws supplied with the kit are ridiculously small and short; hard to deal with. Holes in the wood wall got worn quickly from frequent use of screws. Ridiculous design; could have easily been avoided. #4 - Pieces inside motor chamber easily fall apart. While changing batteries -- AGAIN -- I dropped a tiny screw and ended up dropping the whole motor. The manual "open/close" button and spring fell out and I could not find them. (Very tiny pieces.) Now I cannot open or close the door manually with the motor. I have to push the door up by hand. I purchased my Run Chicken door in July 2023. By the end of November 2023, the "automatic" part of the door was unusable. I now just stick a zip-tie in a track hole to hold the door open during the day, and I take it out at night to close the door. If I go out of town for more than a day, I will just have to leave the door open because I don't trust it to open and close properly on its own. I might as well have kept the wooden slide door that I had made before buying this "automatic" door. Total waste of money. I hope they improve the design in the near future.

great chicken door but, you have to keep cleaning out the bottom of the track or it leaves a gap, which will let critters in!

After trying a different brand that failed to meet our expectations (rated #2), we decided to purchase this one and it has been fantastic. The installation process was straightforward, and the device has been operating perfectly since day one. The automation has given us peace of mind, knowing our chickens are safe without the need to go out there and open and close it every day. Unlike our previous experience with another brand, this door opener has proven to be reliable and efficient. Overall, it has exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend it!

Sooo I’m hesitant to give it 2 stars but I will because it does work… but it’s very limited for what you pay for this product, the Bluetooth range is… pitiful at best, about 12-15 feet max, there’s no WiFi capability which for the price should definitely be implemented, which means you can’t open and close the door remotely unless your standing close enough for the Bluetooth to be connected… I think I’m going to get one of the WiFi connectors for the b-hyve system and redesign this product to unlock its full potential, it’s also very small, 7.5x10 inches for the opening, big enough for small chickens, but geese, turkeys, large breeds of chickens aren’t going to fit though this model…. For the price it should have WiFi capability so you can truly control it from your phone where ever you are on and off the farm, they could add a light and security camera if they set it up with WiFi, there doggy doors that are cheaper and would work way better then this. Again, something worth 30-40$ yes, but over 100? Absolutely not…. And they are still made of plastic… not metal, again for the price these need to be made of at least aluminum. And the drive gear that lifts the door is very weak plastic…. Luckily I have a 3d printer and I’ve already upgraded the drive gear to a more robust and durable plastic before I even mounted the unit in my coop. Installation was easy enough, door must be mounted nearly perfectly to prevent excess stress on the motor when lifting or binding when closing. Great idea… poor execution… my advice, look into alternative options. I feel like there’s better choices out there with more accessibility, better built, and at a fraction of the cost (per doors) chicken run… reach out to me if you need someone who actually has a farm on your R&D team…. Make a product worthy of the price your charging…. Please…
