I've had a lot of these garbage cans over the years and they all seem to have one problem - it's hard to get the full garbage bags out. The cans are sealed so that there is suction preventing you from getting the bag out. Not this one, it works great. The last trash can I had was an automatic opener and it worked ok, but eventually fell apart. I wanted something simple and there were several negative reviews about this one. They seemed to mostly be related to the lock feature, which seemed odd to me. The can looked good and the price was right, so I got one. It does have a couple of quirks, and the lock feature seems odd, but I really don't use the lock feature so it doesn't matter to me. I can open the whole lid, and it stays put while I take out the garbage bag (very easily I might add), and then stays open while I put in the replacement. I don't use the lock feature and don't know what it is really for, so if that's keeping you from getting this then just go ahead and get it. It is a bit difficult to put in the garbage bags as they have to stretch to fit over the can but I haven't torn one yet and it fits so well that you don't see parts of the bag hanging over the edge. One thing mentioned by several reviewers is that the lid doesn't always close. I found that as well, but then looked at the instructions and it said to push the lid down the first time. Once I did that, there was no problem with it closing, so I guess it does pay to actually read the directions. Overall, I'm as happy as I can be about a trash can. It's not annoying, and I can take out the bags easily and it looks ok in the kitchen. You can't really ask much more of a plastic trash can. ... show more

This trash can is a bad quality. The material is thin and bending. It is difficult to install the lid because the size of the lid does not fit the base. After 20 minutes of installation, every time I tried to open and close the lid, and it made an annoying laud noise. I decided to return it but could not select the Amazon drop off location near me. The only two choices were allowed are 1 hour away. I received the trash can in the plastic bag, not in a box. When I tried to return using UPS, the clerk said that we needed to put it in the box. The media could not be loaded. The Rubbermaid Premier Series III Step-On Trash Can is light in weight, easy to put together, and a good size for the kitchen, laundry room area. I wish I'd read the reviews for this before I decided to buy it. Needed a trash can for the kitchen and couldn't find one I liked at local stores. Given the price and positive reviews I thought this would be great; Rubbermaid is the name you usually see on larger trash cans after all. Have been suffering major buyer's remorse since day one of having this thing. I wish I'd kept the box it came in, not that it really it in it to begin with. This thing is super light, which would be great if it was a can you're moving around, but this is meant to stay in one place. With nothing in it, it can be knocked over super easily so you'll likely want to weigh it down. The lid on this thing is the absolute worst part about it though! This thing literally doesn't work! It opened and slowly closed twice before I put a bag in it and now ever since opening the outer lid to put a bag in it closes on it's own maybe 1 in 20 times! This is ridiculous! It's supposed to be a slow closing lid not a never closing lid, what's the point of having a step open trash can if I'm stuck pushing the lid closed every time? Spend your money on a different one, this isn't anywhere near worth the asking price and those with positive experiences must be the rare few that actually got a functional can. UPDATE: Managed to fix the lid, if you're having issues check if the lifting bar is locked into the slot on the lid. The way it ships it looks ready to go right out the box but most likely the bar isn't locked in. Since fixing that it's worked fine. Still can't give it more than a 3 because bags fit VERY tight inside the bin, have broken a couple because of it, and it's so light it slides around constantly.
