If you are looking for a trash can to hold standard 13-gallon trash bags, choose the 8-gallon sized model. It is much closer in size to a "kitchen" trash can than the larger model that says it can hold 13-gallon bags (which is only marginally true, as the container is so large that the bags don't touch bottom and must be stretched taut to fit the rim.) Plus, the 13-gallon one is a monster for most kitchens (note the dimensions). That said, this is worth every penny! We wanted a well-made, attractive, lidded, pest-proof, odor-containing kitchen trash can, and this is is. It opens with your foot, closes without slamming, has a lid that fits well, doesn't scoot back when your foot is on the pedal, and can be cleaned with a cloth. The liner can be removed for sanitization (it would be perfect for diapers). If it seems expensive, ask: how much will this cost per use? If you use it every day and it lasts years, the cost is infinitesimally tiny. Don't waste your $ on plastic or on poorly designed stainless bins. Buy this.

I have had several *other* trash cans and they always break in the long run. They are not built to handle the day in and day out usage, even in the kitchen of a single person like myself. I don't cook much either. My last one lasted a few years. I decided to upgrade to something that would last much longer. I have never looked back. This trash can is great. The liner is heavy and fits trash bags perfectly, no problems getting a tall kitchen bag stuck or having to figure out how to avoid closing it on the extra material in the bag or worse, having to buy custom bags. This is designed for 30,000 opens and closes and it works fantastically. I would highly recommend. Update: Years later this trashcan is still going strong!

I had waited sometime to admit that I really did need a garbage can for the kitchen and finally ordered this one. It is great!! They said it was black. There is a strip of black around the top of the can below the lid and black is on the step on opener. The rest is aluminum and very nice. There were no dents or any damage to the can as it was packed so none of it touched the outside carton. The step on opener works beautifully. I was concerned about whether the lid would hit the wood side of the cabinet behind it. It did not! I put in what I wanted and took my foot of the opener and the lid closed by itself with a soft click. You do have to follow the directions and take the inner part out and remove the cardboard from the very bottom of the inside of the can. I do not have the exact size of the liner for it, but that is not a problem and I am just using one which is slightly large. This was a real treat for me! Try it!!! You might like it!!!

So great to receive a product of high quality. So many products are geared for the landfill in order to sell more of the same. This should last me years. Only two minor aggravating characteristics. 1: It's a tight squeeze to stretch the bag over the last corner, which could end up tearing the bag when putting it on or taking it off. 2: The huge label on the front of the can is not an easy peel-off label - took me 20 minutes with all my strength to pull it off and I had to use Goo Off to get some of the glue off. For now it's 4 stars, discounting these 2 things. Just got it, so will update later after more use and maybe I can add the 5th star.

I hate taking out the trash. So, I figured, let's go big and then I wouldn't have to take the trash out as much. I tried another brand, but it was difficult to get the trash container out of the trash receptacle when it was full (you had to shake it back and forth, as the receptacle slowly shimmied its way out -- no bueno!). Also, the other one's foot-opening mechanism broke. So, after researching, this trash can came back with the best reviews and the biggest container (and the highest price -- ha!). Well, "I love trash container" (to channel Brick from the movie Anchorman). This thing holds a ton of trash (note: I use 33 gallon trash bags with drawstrings ... but I could probably even go 39 gallon). The receptacle inside pulls out super easily (when I want to remove my full trash bag). This also makes it super easy to clean. Also, the foot mechanism works super easily, too, when opening the top ... and the top then closes slowly and quietly on its own (no slamming top). I highly recommend, if you are willing to pay the higher price.

Now this is a trash can! For years, I have bought step-on trash cans that were trash. They'd cost anywhere from $30 to $80, and would last a year, maybe two. When I saw this on Amazon, I at first thought, no effen way am I spending $175 for a kitchen can. After reading many of the reviews, I figured it if would last as long as suggested, it might be worth it. I figured if it were as poor quality as the others, I could return it. This can is quality, as expected of the Rubbermaid name. It feels very durable, from the easy and wide opening operation to the smooth, quiet closing. The sheet metal is a thicker gauge than others I have owned, which adds weight and stability. Others have stated that they are not true to size, but I have the 13 gallon size can, and the Glad Forceflex 13 gallon bags from Sam's Club fit like a glove. They require a slight stretch to install over the edges of the inner container, but never rip, nor do they come loose before I'm ready to remove it. Hard to believe I wrote such a detailed review for a trash can, but this is THAT good a trash can.

This is a pricey trash can, but it is heavy and well built. The pedal is sure and quiet. It never bangs up nor down. We have it by the coffee station in our customer waiting area and it gets a lot of usage. I am anticipating this lasting a long time. It is also larger than I had imagined. We use 45 gallon trash bags in it. Overkill for a home, but worth the expenditure for a business. Very good looking.
