This thing is great. Much higher quality than you would expect at this price point.

  • Solid and Tough
We didn't want to buy an expensive awning set up with the difficulty of setting up and taking down for our type of "Tear Drop" trailer with roof rack. So we rigged a Rottay Tarp onto our roof rack for first 2 outings. Put fasteners with quick clips on roof rods within spacing of Rottay gromments and 2 poles at other end with tightly held guy lines in ground for support. Crazy wind came up as we watched the tarp straining, yet holding true. We figured we'd test it, even if it ripped. Other campers with full on electric awnings already pulled theirs in. All's we had to do in emergency, if had too, was to drop poles and simply unhook from roof rack. We never had to do that. (We did drop poles to ground and unhook when night came though) Easy. Second trip we didnt notice any stretching, rips, or fatigue in tarp. With same conditions. Not wanting to ruin a good thing. We'll take it down earlier with high winds. We are impressed by quality with our test..so far. Update: Next camp outing. Hard rain and wind. Rain did not saturate the Rottay at all. Totally dry underneath. Amazing that when we packed up, the tarp was still as good as new. Update again..camping recently in mountains. A 3 hour storm of heavy rain, wind and "HAIL" pounding down on Rottay in scary craziness. That dang Rottay tarp unscatched. We had it tightly held on all sides. This is a freak tarp of Nature. Sooner or later it has to give up? ... show more

  • Nice camping tarp for the money
Decided to get a tarp that matches the footprint of my tent. Amazon came to the rescue with this value priced tarp. Works perfectly with the grommets as the obvious places. It's compact and folds well into it's pouch so it saves space in the van when we go camping. I recommend.

  • Waterproof and lightweight.
For full transparency, I purchased this tarp for a use outside of the intended use. I am using this as a roof over my backyard duck run. Firstly, this tarp is absolutely waterproof. So much so that I had to modify my roof design a bit. Initially, I just had it laying flat over the pen. I quickly realized that the tarp would collect and hold water very well. So, I had to raise up one end so rainwater could run off. The tarp seems to be very durable and strong. I have mine secured with zip-ties and it has gone through several summer storms with high winds without any damage. The seams are constructed solidly. The only potential issue that I have found is that the sun is fading the color quicker than I expected. I have had it up for a little over a month now. I haven't seen any degradation in strength yet though. At this price though, even if I do need to replace it once every 1-2 years, that isn't a big deal. Again, I'm using mine as a permanent installation. Occasional use as a camping tarp or sunshade would not be a problem at all. So, really only a consideration if you are looking to use this as something more permanent. ... show more

  • Great tarp, very useful while camping
Using it this weekend camping. First night was in a field and used it as ground tarp. Second night I am using it as a tarp for my hammock. It has many uses when camping. EDIT: After this weekend I tried to fold the tarp and put it back into the handy pack it came in but no matter how I folded it it was too big and the zipper finally broke after trying to make it fit. Love the tarp, hate the bad. ... show more

  • Works well but....
I got this tarp yesterday just in time for the 4th of July. Set it up at the beach and it held up in 25mph winds. Grommets and stitching seem sturdy. I hope they last. I like that it's light and easy to set up. My only gripe is the storage pouch. It has no extra space so you'd have to fold the tarp back down to the same size it came in. I'll be getting a separate bag to store this in or put it in a gallon ziploc bag I guess. ... show more

  • It works but...
It is exactly the right size for under my 10x10 tent, but the grommets started rusting after the first use.

  • Good value
Initial impression is positive. The product appears to be much better manufactured then I would have expected. Double stitched and solidly attached tie down tabs. Well thought out and even includes a center hanging tab on both sides. This is a plus as one side is silver reflective and the other a forest green. The reflective is a real bonus in hot climates. On the downside it was much heavier then expected. The amazon site had someone respond to the weight question with 1 pound but I can only guess that they mixed up the size as the 118x118” tarp weight is approximately 2.1 pounds for the tarp and 2.5lbs for the whole package. Also there is a seam in the center that may end up leaking over time. It would be nice to see this made in one single sheet. Over all I am impressed by the quality but I would not consider the full size for hiking. The manufacturer should include the proper weight specs. Would recommend depending on use purpose.
