  • very good ladder stabilizer
this is the fourth ladder stand off I bought and finally found one that is worth the price Pros: 1. very sturdy 2. has very good attachment brackets that are easy to take on and off and yet feel safe 3. the stand offs are long enough to use against the roof to keep the ladder off the gutters when cleaning the gutters or getting on and off the roof 4. the spread is nice for stabilizing the ladder Cons: 1. ok it is a little heavy but that is what makes it so sturdy a trade off that is worth it conclusion: If you are looking for a standoff that allows you to work on your gutters or get on and off your roof with out pressure being placed on the gutters this is the one you want to get. ... show more

  • This is the one you want
I have a house with gutters, and it's a real challenge to find a place to put my ladder to get up on the roof for tasks such as cleaning gutters. Additionally, I'm no spring chicken, so arguably I should really be looking for ways to reduce my time clambering around on the roof. I thought about the problem, and I'm pretty handy, so I started sketching out a design with 2x4s connected to the ladder with U-bolts, but the more I thought the more I realized "someone must have a solution for this already." And this is the one. It's easy to find a position to put up my ladder anywhere around the house (almost, I'll get to it) where I can climb up, get over the gutters (or clear out the gutters) and get my work done without worrying about slipping or falling from the roof. The only tiny problem is my house has a "hipped" roof, and if I am too close to the corner the ladder won't rest securely, due to one of the arms hanging in the air (think about it). However, with careful placement I can get close enough to reach anywhere in the gutter. Also, this is not even an issue if you're climbing up onto the roof; you can just move the ladder over a few inches and get perfect stability. It's well built, well designed, I like the pins that hold it securely against the ladder. I don't worry about damaging the roof or gutters at all. Really a fine product. ... show more

  • Industrial strength stand-off
Pros: easy to attach to my ladder after I had to cut the width down to fit my ladder. The stand-off is quite sturdy and I feel much more secure while on the ladder. It will hold the ladder away from the roof edge rather easily. The main con is that the stand-off is made of steel and weighs 24 pounds. That is a chancy item to be trying to move around. I understand that steel is stronger than aluminum, but the added risk of the ladder getting away because of the heavier steel stand-off is significant and quite real. Scary! ... show more

  • Lifesaver
I'll try to make this review short, but I have a bit of info that may help a variety of people. I'm 5'2, 100lb female age 49. I'm quite handy, but no longer have the strength of my 20's. I recently purchased a Werner 24ft, Type lll (225lb) extension ladder to put gutter guards at a height of 17ft. I would have hired someone because I don't do extension ladders. Every time I'd get up to the 10'-12ft mark my knees would start shaking. I absolutely never felt safe, EVER, with them. I have no problem with A-frames. I even tried out the stabilizer with the u-bolts , and I felt just as fearful , and refused to use it. After purchasing the ladder I went searching for the best stabilizers. I almost bought the one from Werner, but thanks to someone's helpful review, their stabilizer (advertised as universal) doesn't even fit all of their own ladders, especially the one I purchased- INCREDULOUS!! I came across this product, and after researching and reading the good and bad reviews, I felt comfortable enough to order it. I did pray that it would fit my ladder, and that it was going to be a quality product and be a true lifesaver. Putting it together would have been easier if I read the instructions. Don't tighten the bolts until they're all in! This thing has some weight to it, but was so damn easy to install on to the ladder. The most difficult part was raising it. Because it's so top heavy, my old, short husband and I had a hell of a time pushing it up. We managed to get it to 15ft, but by the time I finished the job it was 13ft. I'm wondering if it's possible to raise the ladder first and then put it on. Then of course I'm back to climbing an unstable ladder. I'm sure strong guy(s) would have no problem raising it. Now to the moment of truth...this product is absolutely AMAZING!! Not for one second did I feel unsafe, and I was even able to squat down, like I was on the ground, to make cuts as needed for the gutter guards. Also, there were sections when the ladder was half on the window and half on the vinyl siding, and kinda crooked, and yet it still didn't budge. As long as the feet of the ladder are stable, this holds secure. For taller and heavier people it may work differently, so it would be helpful if others put their height and weight when writing a review. For me, this $70 was worth every penny to feel safe and secure. ... show more

  • Makes ladder top heavy
Ads at least ten pounds to the top of the ladder making the ladder top heavy and impossible to place ladder

  • A homeowner must have.
Worked as described. Their sturdy & gave me plenty of room between the ladder & gutters to do my work. The only thing I did was split & place tennis balls over the hard plastic ones that comes attached.
