  • This is BETTER than I thought!
I don't hesitate to write a less than stellar review when I am disappointed with a product.... and so it is only fair that I give KUDOS when a product arrives and it is better than expected. This stabilizer is very light weight.... but very strong and sturdy! It is really fast and simple to attach to the ladder and even quicker to remove. It is adjustable as to how far from the wall you need the ladder to be held. Our new kitchen cabinets were installed before I could finish the drywall patching and painting above the upper cabinets. A step ladder could not get close enough because of the lower cabinets and the extension ladder would rest on the upper cabinets before making contact with the wall above. This was the PERFECT remedy. I had looked at several stabilizers online and they seem 'limited' to holding the ladder about 7" from the wall. Heck... this thing is very adaptable. I used it on one of those heavy 'Gorilla' ladders, the ones with the splayed ends. It attaches perfectly and adds almost no noticeable weight to the top of the ladder. This was the perfect solution for me and it stores compactly back in the box for the next time it will be needed. Good product, good value! ... show more

  • This thing is AWESOME
I needed this to make cleaning and painting a house a little easier. It goes together quickly and does not add a lot of weight. I have it on a gorilla ladder and it fits perfectly. It makes you feel 10x safer on a ladder no matter how high you are. It’s well worth the money, I highly recommend buying it and using it for any projects around the house where you have to do things quite high up! ... show more

  • Destroyed aluminum ladder, better on fiberglass ladder; Can trash asphalt shingles
First of all, let me say that I don't know why I held-off on buying a ladder stabilizer for years, because having a Louisville Ladder LP-2210-00 is not only a LOT "safer-feeling" than just setting an extension ladder against a wall or the drip edge (while not dinging the drip edge, to boot!), but it allows you to reach spots like above upper-story windows that were "Maestro, a drum roll while I perform my death defing reach!) locations without a stabilizer. BUT... The Louisville stabilizer destroyed the first ladder on which I had installed it. The ladder was a 20+ year old 16' aluminum model with U-channel rails, and the pressure of the clamps from the Louisville stabilizer bent the top and bottom of the rails where it was installed, making the ladder unsafe to use. I replaced the destroyed ladder with a 16' Werner fiberglass, and had no issues. On the plus side, despite what some reviewers have said, it really doesn't take two people to lower a 20'+ ladder with this stabilizer installed. Just un-extend the ladder, and "walk" the ladder down. I am using a 32' fiberglass extension ladder with the Louisville stabilizer to reach the second floor (which is 2.5 stories tall)and don't have any issues lowering the ladder. Think of it this way - if one person can RAISE the ladder with stabilizer installed, one person should be able to LOWER the ladder with the stabilizer installed. Search youtube for "how to raise and lower an extension ladder" (w/o quotes). One little quibble about this extension - it can (and will!) trash the lower edge of asphalt shingles, especially in "hot" (85+ F) weather, because the stabilizer feet can skid on the roof surface; when one of the feet hits the lower edge of a row of shingles, it can smash the lower edge of the shingle toward the roof's ridge. It's avoidable, but you have to exercise extra caution for this, sometimes climbing back down the ladder and repositioning the ladder. ... show more

  • Made painting safer
It did what it supposed to do, helped stabilize the extension ladder while painting a two story house.

  • Did the job
The nut goes in the inside of the tube. Be careful of the extra weight, even though it's only a few pounds, throws the balance off making it a little harder to balance. It works great

  • Greatly improves stability
This bar greatly improves the stability of the ladder. It also provides a way to stand off from the vertical wall so that you can work on the fascia boards. The standoff distance is adjustable and fairly easy to move. Taking the bar off and on the ladder is simple but time consuming because you have to run four wing nuts quite a distance. With the bar on, the ladder will not go down all the way so back ladder has rungs halfway between the front ladder rungs and is probably a position to avoid. Pay attention to the directions when installing the standoff pieces. I would also add fender washers under the wing nuts here. For my ladder the U-bolt threads stopped too soon so it was not tight. I added over-sized nuts and some fender washers to allow a tight fit. Measure and draw a mark where U-bolts need to go so it will be easily centered for every install. I really enjoy the stability of this extension bar when working up high. ... show more
