  • Thick, Strong Blade vs Weeds!
Color: Brown-2
Japanese Sickle who knew it would be so incredible! This tool is so versatile and can fly solo when weeding. Even if you find an offspring from a larger plant, you can quickly dig a hole and plant it with this. As to it getting the weeds out with their root .... Absolutely! Other reviewers that mentioned it doesn't get the root simply must be skimming the surface. With the young weeds, you need to put the Sickle about 3/4 inch into the soil and pull. Then reverse the motion and push the soil back. As to larger weeds, take the pointed end and smack it just off the base of the weed a couple inches into the soil. Then with your wrist flick it out of the ground. Use the same technique to pull out those pesty clovers and their seed. This tool is indeed a time saver and actually makes the daunting task of weeding fun in a weird way. Don't get me wrong, it's still work but you move along much faster. I wish I knew about this years ago. Bonus! It's actually MADE IN JAPAN.... Says it right on the label. Why buy a Japanese Sickle from China? The Japan take so much pride in their work, go to the source! ... show more

  • Best garden I've had in years
Color: Brown-2
I love this tool! I have a big garden and every year I struggle to keep the weeds away. I usually use a garden hoe to knock back the weeds but that takes a lot of effort and it doesn't cut through the thick stuff. As soon as I got this in the mail I went out the the garden and tried it out. It sliced right through the weeds and before I knew it I had weeded 5 rows with very little effort. I have used it in every row of my garden and I can't believe how nice my garden is looking now. It's fast and it takes a lot less effort than a hoe. It does require you to bend over because of the short handle but I think that gives you more control. And be careful, it's sharp! I cut my finger the first day after barely touching it. Since it's basically a knife, it does get dull after going through dirt and hitting rocks but I just sharpened it with my knife sharpener and it's as good as new. I do suggest wearing gloves because after 2 days of using it I had some pretty bad blisters, but that's my own fault. Overall, this is my new favorite garden tool! I wish I had this years ago. ... show more

  • My new go to
Color: Brown-2
I love my weeding sickle. This is the only thing I use now, it works SO well. I was a bit skeptical at first but after using it for a bit, I was sold. When done correctly it doesn't cut the weed but rather pulls up roots and all while at the same time loosening the soil. Great concept and well constructed. ... show more

  • Yard work sucks but this makes it easier
Color: Brown-2
This little guy is really sharp and works well. It's a little lighter than I expected so I'm worried it may break some day but it works really well.

  • Best Garden Tool for Laying A Flagstone Patio on Paver Sand or Crushed Granite!
Color: Brown-2
This is a perfect tool. I helped to lay flagstones to create a patio, and it's so easy to move the sand or crushed granite around before setting the flagstones in their perfect positions. It's also a wonderful surface weeder that acts like a weeding hoe, but allows one to get closer to the ground to give more pressure on the blade for more deeply-rooted weeds. I've been using this type of Japanese sickle for at least a couple of decades, and I can't garden without this tool in my garden tool stash. There is a Japanese garden tool known as a "kama sickle," and it's truly the best for weeding or cutting back perennials. I won't garden without it! Go and search for it. It's sold on Amazon. I have given my adult kids their own kama sickles. The handles come in at least two lengths, and I find the 12" handle length to be the more versatile because the blade is longer than the 6" handled kama sickle. Once you try the kama sickle, you'll start to put your other hand tools in the back of your garden shed. The kama sickle has a serrated blade edge. Be sure to always wash dirt off your blades and other metal garden tools that come in contact with soil to prevent rusting. Dry them before storing. ... show more

  • makes weeding fast
Color: Brown-2
I am a pretty lazy gardener, so at the end of the last season I did nothing to tend to my garden remains and just let it fill in with weeds over the winter and early spring (I live in the PNW, things grow here ALL THE TIME, madness for someone originally from the Rocky Mtns...). My garden is about 8' x 15' and was full of plant life and with this little tool I was able to clear it out and have it ready for planting in about 2 hours. It all appears to be one piece of metal, no joints (aside from the handle of course) and it is comfortable to hold and use. The blade is sharp but not like slice your shoe open while you work sharp. It is dull enough that it doesn't just slice through roots, but actually helps pull them up out of the soil. I also pulled on some pretty well rooted plants and felt no slipping or looseness with the handle. It seems very well made and I can't wait to keep using it to weed. ... show more

  • Mugwort’s worst nightmare
Color: Brown-2
The media could not be loaded. It was hard filming and demoing with one hand, but ultimately, this nejiri kama sickle hoe made getting rid of even the deepest rooted weeds a simple task. No pulling out my back trying to parse mugwort from my oregano! The sharpest part is great for stabbing right into the heart of the roots and severing anything stubborn enough to hang on. Clearing out lemongrass and any other shallow weeds without harming my herbs was also very easy because of how much control this blade affords. Now I’m even thinking of getting one with a longer handle for the larger ornamental shrubs which require more reach. But for my veggie & herb garden, this one is light, comfortable, and pretty efficient as it is. Keep in mind that this one is designed for right handed users. If you’re a leftie, Amazon does carry Hounenkihan left handed nejiri kama hoes, but it’s a separate listing. Overall, I can vouch that the Hounenkihan blade on this is very sharp, strong, and easy to use. Just wear gloves and watch your feet - don’t want to weed off a few toes while your in the thick of it. ... show more
