Purchased as a birthday for my husband as he loves gadgets and gizmos. I thought he might enjoy metal detecting. Opened it on his birthday to find that the clip that holds the two rods together to form the long shaft is broken. What a disappointment. Now its just an underwhelming gift. Didn't even get to try it out.

Like how it looks, weight is good light , But parts break very easy be careful during setup.wife put in batters turned on loud pop bad smell,now speaker won't work. Already sent back once broken sleve prior to setup. Now this. It's cheap...

An entry level metal detector, but it functions well and has good ground penetration detection. Even has a sensor to give you an idea of just how far down a detected find will be so you dont 'over dig'. But even for being a smaller entry level detector, this has turned out to be very reliable for finding and excavating metals. The panel has multiple modes and functions for finding specific targets such as coins and jewelry, but other metals as well. It is extendable and retractable by flipping a lever with a comfy arm rest to support the weight, which isnt much as the detector weighs less than 10lbs. I personally use the 'All Metal' function as the detector also shows a value ranging from 1-100 with a guide book outlining the types of metals that can be found within the range and assigned to designated numerical values. Once the detecter goes off, it has a 'pinpoint' mode to narrow the search field within just an inch at center point, and the shovel/trowel that came included make it easy to find anything. After one afternoon of scouring my backyard I've found a few quarters, dimes, and many many bottle caps. My best find so far was at my grandparents where I found an old 2002 silver half-dollar coin which I've never seen before. I'm looking forward to a day walking down the beach with it and hope to get lucky on some good finds. The detector runs on two 9v batteries which the 1st set are included but you will want to pick up extras for thosemultiple and longer uses. Also includes a carry bag for the detector as well as a belt clip bag for the mini shovel that came with it. My only complaint is that its limited by the extension, I am a tall(6'4'') person so when I use the metal detector I have to hunch forward a bit to have a good sweep of the ground.

I got this RM RICOMAX Metal Detector for Adults, 5 Modes Professional Gold Metal Detector with LCD Display, IP68 Waterproof, 9.4" because I've always been interested in doing metal detecting and trying to find just different things out in the fields where you know there's been some history.. This was definitely a beginner's unit. I wouldn't put too much faith in it. I was a little disappointed since it says it was for adults, I kind of felt like it was more of a kid's unit. It's built just kind of cheap. So if you're just looking to check out what these are about and learn how to use them then this one's fine. If you're looking to go out in the world trying to find treasures then I would probably invest a little more in a better unit.

This metal detector is a first for me and seems to be very nice. It was easy to put together and has a couple extras that other metal detectors don’t have (small shovel for digging for your discovered treasures and a pair of headphones). It also has a backlight LED screen which is super cool. It will display different types of metal targets, depth, recognition, sensitivity level, and operating mode. It has 5 different modes you can use to find different items and has 3 different tones that sound when you do find something (high, medium and low). It’s lightweight which I appreciate since I don’t have a lot of arm strength. It’s also waterproof except for the control box. I have only used it twice so far in order to write this review since we still have snow covering most of our property. I went to areas where the snow had melted to give it a try and it worked great! Although I couldn’t dig where it found something because the ground was too hard yet, its tone sounded in three different spots the first try and twice on my second day using it. I’m excited for warmer weather when I will begin to use it more. My plan is to first is to walk our 2 acres with it and hopefully find some hidden treasures. :)
