Okay, so we drove nearly 800 miles from the mountains of NC to the OBX of NC and back. We had a 3 piece wheeled luggage set plus two other large bags in this thing....as well as 2 body boards. We loaded this thing full but not too full. Honestly we could have put some soft items in it to fill it up (like deflated inflatables or pillows) but I didn't want to push it. Super easy to install it on the hard top car (no racks and no rails). (see details of the durability at the end) *Tips: Wash the car to prevent scratching it and make sure the bags is clear of debris on the bottom. Unzip the back before throwing on the car with the solid side facing your front windshield. Then load the product in the bag and zip it up. Once zipped, then you can loop the ties through the buckles and then to the car stripping (with doors open). Once in place, CLOSE the door BEFORE tightening the straps. Once the door is closed on the properly placed strap, then tighten it down. Now you can open your door and the strap will not come off the stripping. If you tighten it with the door open you could damage the stripping or your face when the hook lets loose and pops your mouth! **Helpful hints: 1) This will increase your fuel consumption a ton. Normally I get 38-42 mpg in my Chevy Cruze going 70 mph, however I noticed that I was getting about 20mpg with this on my car. 2) The wind does wisp in your ear as you are driving....especially the front seats. So once we were in the vehicle, we used gorilla tape along the interior of the stripping and it was not bad at all. Of course, when you make a pit stop, you will have to reapplying the tape. Gorilla not duck...duck does not have the same thickness of Gorilla. Trust me...we put duck up and then stopped at Dollar General for Gorilla! We had 4 adults taking a 7 hour drive for a week's vacation at the beach in which we had to pack for both summer, fall and winter (because NC is bipolar) and this was a life saver! We packed our beach gear (cooler, picnic basket, body boards, inflatables and pump, along with so many towels) while on the banks so that we had everything at hand...while packing chairs and other items in the trunk. We experienced a Northeaster and Gulf Stream depression which collided off the coast for 3 days and turned into a tropical storm which sent 25 foot waves over the dunes onto the only highway (Hwy12) which we were driving on. This bag was literally drenched by the salty ocean water and pounds of sand, relentless beating for days. We drove through door high standing water that was hydroplaned onto my whole car during the worst of the storm. Not one item inside the bag was wet! Not one. The towels were as dry as they were from the dryer! I was shocked. This thing was literally battle tested!!! I literally left the bag on top of my car when the rain was sideways and swirling and it was not even phased...not even a little. This is a great bag and very versatile! I loved the fact you can use this bag with or with out roof rails. The quality is top notch and very durable. I was a little skeptical at first but we were able to fit a large amount of cargo in this. 2 large suitcases 1 medium, a duffle bag, 4 small bags plus a bunch of other miscellaneous items. It was easy to setup and clung into place well using the weather stripping hooks and a non slip mat. The straps can generate some noise at speeds higher than 60. We hit speeds of 85 in some spots though with no issues. Through 14 hours of driving each way, a rain storm and off roading on a beach our cargo remained in place and dry.     • Durable and weatherproof Car Top Carrier
This carrier rode securely on top of our car from Maine to Oklahoma. I was concerned about the durability of the straps so we used some rope to add additional protection but the straps held up just fine. We had a heavy rain for most of one night but nothing got wet. It would be easier to load (for us) if you have a car that isn't too tall. We had to use a step stool to load and unload our SUV. This is not a defect of the product - just a side effect of having short owners! I was very pleased with how this carrier performed and would buy it again.     • worked great on out trip
we attached this to the roof of our Acura RDX and drove it 12 hours on a trip. It did not shuffle around at all. Very nice and secure, all of our stuff remained intact. It stored a lot of stuff too. One thing to note is that the contents of your items will get very hot on the roof of the car, so be sure not to put anything heat-sensitive in there. This served us well on our trip. I decided to purchase this last minute before a 5 hour road trip. I chose this because we do not have a roof rack and needed extra storage for the trip. It was bigger than I expected and we were able to fit most of our bags in it plus a baby chair and part of a baby swing. While driving, there was some vibration noises. This was easily fixed on the way home by adding a couple more items to the bag and being very intentional about the straps. It's easy to install and remove. ... show more

    • Kept luggage totally dry while driving cross country in the middle of winter
We used this on our Kia Sorento to drive from Missouri to Idaho and Montana and back again in February. It was raining and snowing and the wind was horrible but this thing kept ALL of our stuff safe, secure, and DRY. I was a little worried about it holding up for our whole trip, but we are 2 weeks into our 3 week trip and it has been great. Easy to take on and off at each stop we have made. The bag is really stiff due to it being weather proof which makes it hard to get it all packed up in a taller car, but I will take it being stiff and slightly hard to pack over all of our stuff getting soaked anyway. It sometimes made a funny noise, but I think the straps weren’t always tight enough and the weather was probably messing with it as well. It did drop our MPG, but that is to be expected with any car top carrier. We are so thrilled with this product! For the price, it can’t really be beat. It has been a huge space (and life!)saver for our three week road trip with two toddlers. I highly recommend! ... show more

    • Durable. Waterproof. Bat outta hell proof.
Used this for a 12 hour drive from Ohio to the Outer Banks. We definitely tested the rain durability. Nothing was wet upon arrival! Fit 3 suitcases, pop-up tent, beach lounger, beach bag, and soft sided cooler. Honestly had room to fit some more stuff. My husband decided to drive like a bat out of hell on the way home and even cruising a cool 90 on the highway there was no damage to anything! We were able to free up the entire back of our Jeep Cherokee for our 2 large dogs and that was the whole point of the purchase. ... show more
