I did a little research before choosing a car top cargo bag, and after a 2,000 mile trip, I am happy to say that I am incredibly pleased with this purchase. We used the car straps, as we have no rack on top, and they proved to be sturdy and kept the bag in place during the trip. Using them to attach to the weather stripping does cause some noise from the wind, and while I would normally take off a star for that, I don’t think it can be helped no matter what brand, and the positives far outweigh this minor inconvenience. The part that impressed me and my husband most was its sturdiness during an incredibly bad storm - so bad that we had to pull off the highway as nobody could see. Winds were raging, and my husband was worried that the bag would fly off and we would lose everything. Didn’t happen. We pulled over to a gas station as soon as the storm let up, and the bag protected most of our gear. There was a little water that got in, but when we found out that we had been caught in 70 mph winds, we were mightily impressed that that was the only thing that happened. Basically, we are incredibly pleased. For the price, this has proved to be a sturdy way to carry your extra gear.

We needed to find a method of getting more storage capacity in a short amount of time. The car is a 2021 Mazda CX-5 (no roof rails). Was looking at all sorts of products and came across the Rightline ACE 2 product. After reading the reviews here and looking at their website, I decided to take a chance even so some reviews discussed problems with moisture leaking through straps and durability. I followed the instructions as recommended by other users as well as the manufacturer. I did not over pack and made sure to keep the shape of the bag. I used a protective, non-skid cover between the bag and the car. We put 2 beach chairs, 3 boogie boards, beach toy games, 3 small duffle bags, a twin size aero bed, and 6 beach towels to kind of keep everything tight. I put my duffle bags and aero bed in garbage bags in the event it rained. Everything else I did not mind getting wet. THE ONLY THING I DID DIFFERENTLY was where I mounted the clips. The clips did not fit on the outside of the weather stripping. Therefore, I put the clips under the weather stripping against the frame. We had a little wind noise. Not terrible. We had noise from the strap. However, a quick adjustment to make sure the strap was flat made a difference. My experience on my travel days had no rain so I cannot say how it would perform in rainy weather, but I was pleased with the product. I can see the ACE 2 bag is not as durable as the “better” models. I did see other Rightline Gear bags that were better. My bag held up with no problem. The items we put in the bag were more outdoor items. Traveled from the NY area to Outer Banks, NC. Definitely feel a difference in the handling of the car as well as gas mileage due to drag. Overall, I was pleased with the product.

Two camping trips. So far so good! I had been using bungees to strap everything down on the roof of our SUV. I lashed everything down pretty well so as far as effectiveness, that method was working. With regard to time and efficiency, using the bungees was not fun. This bag allowed me to put as much stuff on top as I normally would plus a little more. I will say that I did use a tie down strap to ratchet the carrier down even more securely. So I'm not sure how the carrier would work relying on it's own straps alone. Still, I think this item is solid.

Was nervous purchasing this due to mixed reviews. I purchased the 15cuft water resistant carrier. I do not have sidebars or a rack on my vehicle. I have a 2014 Durango and it worked great! We drove in the pouring rain for hours and all stayed dry. We did get a little leakage inside the care but a piece a paper towel took care of that. We placed folding chairs, duffle bags, a cooler w cases of water in it (no ice), and a few other items. I also let my friend use it for a trip , they also encountered rain but all stayed dry and they were in a mini van. No tears or rips. We traveled on interstate and did not change our normal driving patterns. I did not purchase a mat to go under it I just used an old beach towel and that was fine, no damage to paint. I would recommend this product. It is good quality and sturdy materials.

Purchased this for a trip from Michigan to North Carolina. The unit itself is spacious and kept everything dry on the trip that rained 80% of the drive. The major issues I have with the unit are the clips that connect to the cars weather stripping make it so the doors don't fully close. So it sounded like we were driving with the windows down the entire trip. On a 15 hr drive that was awful...I basically had to scream to talk to my wife sitting in the passenger seat. Also, with the doors being essentially cracked open the wet straps dripped into the car. So the doors where wet most of the drive. Also...once you hit a certain speed, +75, the straps on the roof would whistle. I had to stop a few times, in the rain...on the highway to readjust. But that didn't help. I tightened it down as much as possible...I'm a bigger guy so there really was no wiggle room for the straps to flap around. It also looks like the straps rubbed some paint off the car. I hated it so much that I didn't even use it on our return trip and jammed everything I could because I didn't want to have to deal with it on the ride back. I would imagine if you had a roof rack this would probably be perfect. But no roof rack I would stay away and probably go with a unit that ran the straps inside of your car rather than clip onto the weather stripping.

Great quality and it fit everything i needed. Put it on my 4 door VW Golf and drove from CT to OR. It tore in the front about halfway through the trip which we found could have been caused by the extra bungee cords we used. I do not have a roof rack, so I secured the straps through my car as suggested. It held the bag down securely but affected the weather proofing on the door. While in motion it was fine, but at a full stop water would leak in profusely. Same thing happened on my boyfriends Saab, but he did not experience the bag ripping. As long as you tie it down securely and use a few extra bungee cords to keep it from flapping this bag is great.

My daughter drove over 800 miles with this strapped to the top of her Corolla! It rained along the way and everything inside, wrapped in plastic after reading other reviews, stayed dry. It held 4 large duffle bags and some other items, easily. We did put an old bathroom rug under the bag to protect her roof. It was easy to get on and off the car, and takes up very little room, at the top of the closet, to store. Overall, it was a great purchase and saved us a lot of money, by not having to ship the duffle bags. I highly recommend this product and wish that I had bought it sooner.
