I have salt and pepper hair. My black hair is incredibly hard to lighten, and my grey hair is incredibly hard to color. Fun, yeah? I previously used a box of the same dye and it was noticeable to me but not to everyone. This time, I used Malibu C Color Prepare Wellness Hair Remedy beforehand. When my hair dried, I added All HD Plex to the mixed dye before using it. I previously left it in for 30 minutes but this time I went for 45. I know it isn’t one of the colors that they say you can do that with, but again, stubborn dark hair, so I took a chance. I also used my heat cap. The color turned out kind of auburn. I know I do have a lot of red pigment in my hair—the orange stage during lightening goes on forever. There’s no noticeable damage, but I don’t know if that’s because of the All HD Plex or the lack of ammonia in this formula, but I can say that formulas with ammonia leave my hair noticeably hard and dry, even with the Plex. It passes though. But after Colorsilk, there’s no dryness, hardness, or any other issues. My hair always looks dry and frizzy immediately after washing, so damage isn’t what you’re seeing—just hair stripped of natural oils. I like the resulting color, and it’s the only boxed dye my hair seems to have no bad reaction to, so it’s a keeper. It did cover my greys better this time, although even they seem to be reddish. But that’s okay because they blend well with the darker hair.

Worked great, easy to use, darker than pictured on the box. I started with a level 10 platinum blonde and the golden blonde is nearly brown. For a real golden blonde, needs to be a much lighter shade. Will buy again, just several shades lighter. Edited to update: After several washes it is much closer to the box color. I’d still go a shade lighter to get the desired color, but it’s pretty close after a few weeks.
