As someone who often gets out the measuring tape from his sewing kit and awkwardly tries to wrap it around his torso to fit clothes, the idea of an accurate automatic measuring tape sounded like it would be easier. And, as someone who's trying to get into shape, the functions of this one sounded useful. And I was right on both accounts! The device itself is very cleverly designed and easy to use. You simply wrap it around the chosen body part, clip the end back into the device, then press a button to retract the tape until it's snug. It stays in place, so you can pull the tape free and read the result. It seemed almost excessively accurate, down to 1/100th of an inch. I was even able to measure my ring size! You can use it manually to get measurements of whatever you need, but the intended function is to go through each body part on the screen. They make this very easy, as well. All you do is measure what it's pointing to, then hit the check button and continue. All the data is stored on the device to be used with the app. And the app could be considered a positive or a drawback. It's well-designed, easy to use, and remarkably functional, but to get the full effect of the product, the app is more or less a requirement to use. There is no way to keep track of things on the device itself. Originally I thought there was no way to manually enter data on the app, as well, but fortunately it is possible, just far less convenient and possibly less accurate. This becomes a little bit of an issue when you are only using a single Renpho product. In the app, there's plenty of functionality for all sorts of metrics, but if you only have this tape measure, you'll see a lot of blanks. If you want weight, body fat, and BMI, you'll need a Renpho scale. If you want miles walked, you'll need a Renpho treadmill. Renpho jump rope, Renpho nutrition scale... there's a lot of them. It seemed like there was no way to manually enter data unless you've connected a device previously (I could not enter running data in "manual mode" without it giving me a device not found error). I actually ended up ordering the scale (which was reasonably priced) and found it works in a very similar way to the tape measure. In fact, if you're just using it specifically for weight loss results tracking and not for tracking activities or diet, I think buying this and the scale together gives you the most useful information. With both, you get easily updated and detailed graphs of your progress over time. The only real drawback with the tape measure itself is that it's powered by AAA batteries (though they are included). It's hard to say how long they'll last, but it does seem to go into sleep mode quite quickly, so I'd guess it will be a while. Still, it feels like most products like this these days are USB chargeable, so it was surprising to see this one wasn't. But at the end of the day, this is a really useful, functional bit of "didn't know you needed it" technology. It's easy to recommend for someone who is specifically trying to lose inches of fat (or gain inches of muscle mass), but even just for measuring clothes or other random things, I think it's very worth having around!

I ordered the Renpho Smart Body Tape Measuring tool mainly to track my muscle mass and body fat loss progress. The Renpho tape measuring tool operates by using three AAA batteries which are included. I downloaded the Renpho Health app prior to using the measuring for the first time to save my measurements. The Renpho measuring device pairs to the app via Bluetooth with no issues. To start measuring, you simply pull out the measuring tape and wrap it around the body part you wish to measure. There is a locking pin that you insert into a receptacle to hold the tape in place. You would then press the retract button to tighten the tape measure around your body part. Read your measurement and press the check mark button to record and save to the app. It's as easy as that. There are twelve pre-set body parts (e.g., neck, chest, waist, shoulders, biceps, etc.) to measure on the device but you can custom label and measure any other body part that you like. The digital screen on the Renpho measuring device is clear and bright. The numbers are big and easy to read. You can select either to measure in centimeters or inches via the app. If I would have to give one suggestion on improvement, it would be the tape measure itself. The tape measure is a bit thin and I feel like it would tear if I weren't careful. It should have been made a little more thicker. It's not a dealbreaker but just something worth mentioning. Overall, I think this is a great device for something who wants to easily track their weight-loss or bodybuilding progress. The Renpho Health app is easy to use and can also sync to Apple Health. All your saved measurements are stored on the app so you can track your progress easily. I have a Renpho scale that I would like very much if I liked to weigh myself. I am sure I will feel similarly about this Renpho Smart Body Tape. I wanted it because I measure intermittently and then always lose the measurements and this seems like an ideal way to keep them on my phone and to see progress in either direction … though hopefully, down. Overall, I like it very much. The display is very clear and it isn’t hard to figure out how to use it. I haven’t done all my measurements yet, but I will. It works very much like the scale does. It was easy to set up the app and to connect the device via Bluetooth. I’ve had my scale for years and have bought other Renpho devices and like them and think highly of the company. The only thing that surprised me about this and find a bit disappointing is that it has regular alkaline non-rechargeable batteries which makes me think the device hasn’t been updated since its introduction. Practically every gadget I’ve purchased, and I would say probably close to a hundred in the last year, came with internal rechargeable batteries if they weren’t corded. This seems almost out-of-date with the batteries (included).
