I have to admit that I've yet to use these, but I am very impressed with the quality of the product. I plan to (before Fall) use them to create a template for a plywood adapter to cover the cut-out in the ceiling where my stovepipe (the double insulated stainless steel through-piece) passes through. It's a cathedral ceiling set up and I don't want to just load it up with foam since I want to be able to periodically inspect the stainless steel. I know I could have dusted off the trigonometry or calculus text books and figured out what the conic section would be, from the angle and dimensions, but this seems a lot quicker. I purchased this particular profiler because of the option to extend it to a total of 15" by connecting the two supplied sections together. It works as advertised with a couple of minor exceptions which stopped me from giving it a "5" rating: 1) The screwdriver supplied with the profiler does not fit the screws that connect the two sections together; fortunately I have a good selection of Phillips head screwdrivers in my tool box, 2) when connected together the two sections leave a noticeable gap with no plastic blades. Neither shortcoming is a deal killer. On the plus side the kit does come with 8 spare blades and 4 spare connecting screws, but the included carpenter's pencil and imperial/metric tape measure are of little value. The locking mechanisms on both the 5" and 10" sections work well and the level of friction is adjustable. A suggestion to the manufacturer: offer a 15" (or longer) profiler constructed in one section. ... show more
