For decades I have stuck with some of the cheapest (albeit branded) tape measures on the market. When I misplaced my last one on an Ikea shopping trip, I took it as a sign to upgrade. This is far from the fanciest one out there but it feels like a huge step up in build quality and functionality. The blade is much sturdier and the thumb lock actually, well, locks. Really nice tape measure. Very heavy and you can tell it's a DeWalt! My complaint (which cost a star on the review) is the GD packaging. I needed a screwdriver and a box cutter to just try to get into this thing. I mean, I can see the thing, I just can't use it. I don't know who came up with the idea in the board room to make it nearly impossible to get this out of the packaging, but I hope there were relieved of their duty. I can't even imaging a guy on a construction site with a deadline getting his new tape measure in and standing there on a high-rise beam trying to get this thing out of the package. It's utterly ridiculous. It took me about 7 minutes just to get it out of the Fort Knox security package. I had paper and plastic all over my workbench and nearly sliced off my finger twice. And I bought two of these things so I had to do that twice. So WHY do they make it that way? Can't DeWalt just have a nice easy open package? Who's idea was this and can I please have a word with them? Perhaps one day someone will read this and know the person that came up with this idea and forward this on to them so they know the pain they caused. Or even better, maybe Mr. DeWalt will one day stumble upon my review and see my frustration and get the packaging fixed so we as the consumer won't have to have physical therapy or a visit to the emergency room just to measure a lamp. ... show more

It’s noticeably lighter and more compact than traditional 25ft tape measures, making it much easier to carry in a tool belt or pocket without feeling bulky. Pros: ✅ Compact & Lightweight – Doesn’t weigh you down like some chunkier models. ✅ Durable Build – The rugged casing can take a beating, just like you’d expect from DeWalt. ✅ Smooth Retraction – The blade retracts quickly without snapping back too aggressively. ✅ Easy-to-Read Markings – Clear, high-contrast numbers make it effortless to read. ✅ Strong Standout – The blade extends several feet before bending, great for solo measuring. Cons: ⚠️ The belt clip is a little stiff, but it does keep the tape securely in place. ⚠️ No magnetic hook, which might be a downside if you’re used to that feature. Final Verdict: If you want a rugged, reliable, and compact tape measure that doesn’t take up too much space, this is an excellent choice. It's been a while since I needed a new tape measure and I love the way they have put commonly used fractions on metal tape portion, this makes it easy to read and compute your measurements. The tape measure is sturdy, easy to read and feels great in the hand. It is very nice to be able to use one finger to place on the bottom and hold the exposed tape in place when doing your marking. I have not had a tape measure have that feature and it's not something I would have thought about doing or putting into a design but I do like the way it works. The only negative I have to say about this product is that it is not as easy to place the clip on what you are measuring and it hold while pulling the tape out for a measurement. I have noticed I have to pull the tape out a little manually so the clip will grab the wood before pulling it out for a measurement, the clip could be a little bigger to go past the end and grab better. Maybe it's just the way I use the tape measure but that would be my only complaint. Good solid product though. ... show more
