  • Great for what I needed.
I needed some safe blocks to put under my protein skimmer to raise the level and these worked perfectly. Nice square and level blocks.

  • Exactly as described and decent price
I like these style bio media brick, easy to stack and move and have a good surface for beneficial bacteria to built, no bags needed to keep them away from sump return filter is also a huge plus!

  • BiO MeDia BLocks 8 month review
They have too tight arrangement of beads to let the brick have any water flow through it , after its been used for few months water will not flow at all through the brick . Very well made item , i use them still , i got dozen to put into my filter system for marine tank i have , really dont feel like they made huge difference in the filter . Still very well made item . Just can not use in hob filter very long with out having to pull it out and clean it really to get some small amount of flow back through it . ... show more

  • Good bio ceramic blocks Good bio ceramic blocks
Nice set of bio ceramic blocks. They are composed of tiny spheres stuck together, which creates large surface area internally for bacteria to grow on. They are more heavy and solid-feeling than other similar blocks I’ve used that are more pumice-like which have more internal air interstices. I don’t know which would have more surface area but it seems like the more solid material the less air and surface there would be, but on the other hand these don’t crumble like the lighter ones. You can see in my pics the tiny spheres and also how water can go right through it (slowly). They seem to work, but it’s hard to tell how well or relative effectiveness vs others since the only metric I have is that it gives enough surface area for nitrogen cycle bacteria to do their thing. ... show more

  • Seems to work well
I’ve tried these in HOB’s and canisters. I don’t have a sump but they seem to do a decent job with beneficial bacteria. I was able to move one from a seeded hob to a new tank for an almost instant cycle. They are are very heavy but none were broken and they’re not crumbly or dusty at all. I don’t have a sump to test them that way but so far I have been happy with them as biological filtration media. ... show more
