  • WORTH EVERY PENNY
Size: 23 inch Color: UK-23
I wish Ranch made guitars. This is one of the best quality instruments I have EVER purchased. the sound is louder than a Yamaha classical guitar. Build quality is superb and the kit comes with everything a beginner needs. My GF loved the elegance and beauty of the instrument. As a guitarist a comparable guitar would be 1k plus. I will he getting my self one. So very happy with this purchase. ... show more

  • I love my ukulele!
Size: 26 inch Color: UK-26
I'm a beginner, so I don't know much about quality of ukuleles. All I know is I'm having a lot of fun learning how to play this beautiful ukulele! It's really pretty - I love the color of the wood, the ivory trim, and the carved detailing around the sound hole. Just as they said, the strings took a few days to stay in tune. I've been playing every day for about a week and the strings are just now starting to stay in tune from day to day. Don't worry if this happens to you - it resolves itself over time. The only negative thing I have to say is that the strap and the gig bag have a very chemically smell. I put them in the wash, and it's a little better but still there. That seems to be the case with a lot of Amazon products. However, the uke itself has no smell at all and seems to be made with natural materials. The online classes are fun and easy to follow along with, too! I'm happy with my purchase :) ... show more

  • Fun little uke!

This is so much fun. I got it because a local brewery was hosting ukulele Mondays theough the summer. It was a great event and the instrument sounded awesome.

  • Good value

I really enjoy this little uke, like some reviews have stated strings take a little while to stay in tune after that everything has been great. Would recommend to anyone looking to play ukelele..

  • Fun beginner/intermediate Ukelele kit
Size: 23 inch Color: UK-23
Pretty good build quality, especially for the price. Easy to tune and holds its tune for several days. The tone is surprisingly good, and it feels great in my hands. The kit comes with a lot of useful goodies: a gig bag that is great for keeping dust at bay and preventing scratches, but won't protect the uke from hard bangs or getting crushed; a clip-on tuner with several modes including two Ukelele tunings and a chromatic mode; a spare set of strings; a strap; two very cheap and brittle picks; and a very useful chord chart. I would recommend this for anyone who wants to learn Ukelele or just have one around to play from time to time. Professionals should probably spring for something nicer. ... show more

  • Razor sharp fret ends, form letter customer service.
Size: 23 inch Color: UK-23
I'm updating this review, now that I have gotten a reply from Ranch customer service. Short version: Most of the fret ends were unbelievably ragged, worse than anything I've seen. Customer service tried to be helpful, but failed to really grasp the problem. Response seemed a canned reply to a different fret problem. Intonation of G string sharp above 7th fret, rest of strings show good intonation to at least the 12th. Long version. First, I am not a musician, but I tinker with instruments for my own personal stress reduction, improving my hand motor skills, etc. I have been tinkering mostly with guitars, occasionally with others for about 30 years now. I play entirely on beginner instruments, and am in general aware of what to expect from them. Sure they're often laminate, with substandard tone, that's fine by me. I've had several with slightly sharp fret edges that I've filed and worked. I've never seen anything like the poor craftsmanship of the fret ends on this ukulele. Back in the day, you usually had fretboards that weren't flat, but that's not so common these days as machine-made instruments have gotten much better. Usually you find the frets need to be rounded at the corners a bit. Sometimes you have some fret sprout that needs to be filed down. Whatever, it happens. This is usually on a *small* number of frets. This Ukulele has 18 frets, for a total of 36 fret ends. 31 of the ends on this instrument are sharp and require work. Most have wide, ragged, flat burs hanging off the edges, like the were cut with an exceptionally dull cutter and left untreated after cutting. See the pictures I've attached. Those jagged, flaky looking bits at the edge are thin, razor sharp flakes of metal still attached to the fret. A few of the frets are noticeably short of the edge of the fretboard. Quite frankly, I received a completely unplayable ukulele due to unbelievably sharp frets. Sure, I could have gotten it into serviceable condition in an hour or two with a file. But for a new instrument claiming that: "Light and well built instrument, with the fret boards surprisingly smooth on every sides details, Neck is well connected and easy to navigate, the frets are nice and polished." The worst fret ends I've ever seen is *not* what I was expecting. When I emailed customer service, sending them the same fret-end closeup they replied with this explanation: "When we ship the ukuleles to Amazon, our QC will check every details of the uke to make sure there are no flaws on it. Of course the fret edges are very smooth at that time. But due to the natural properties of wood's thermal expansion and contraction, the uke's frets may have some bow." So, you're going to blame the jagged, rough unfinished edges on your fret on thermal expansion of the fretboard? Um, no. The metal ends did not magically become ragged as a result of the wood under them expanding. Most likely they were precut too short before being put on the fretboard, so the ends never got polished down after installation, and QC never noticed. Later the fretboard shrank due to moisture changes the sharp edges started hanging over. Note the shrinkage didn't cause the problem, but rather the expansion masked a manufacturing defect. This is of course giving a possible explanation on why the edges weren't sharp when it went through their QC. Either way, the QC should have visually inspected the fret ends, at which point the jagged edges would have been seen, even if they couldn't be felt. It also sounds like the end of their email response is about the frets being bowed up out of the fretboard, not sharp at the ends. I think they cut-and-pasted some generic facts about fretboards, and picked the wrong one, this might explain the absurdly incompetent sounding reply. To their credit, they did offer me a partial refund if I wanted to fix it myself, and pointed me to the option of returning it to Amazon if not. If it were a minor problem, I'd take them up on it. but fixing nearly every fret on the instrument is way too much work. Back it goes to be replaced by a different brand. I also noticed the intonation of the G string is noticeably sharp above the 7th fret, but the others are on-pitch at the 12th and beyond. That's not really a deal killer, but a lot of the reviews talked about how great the intonation is. It i fine for a beginner instrument, but less great than the reviews claim. Other than that, the instrument seems reasonably well made. The tuning keys move smoothly, and look good although one has a few minor pits if you look really closely. The finish is thin, but even. The strap button at the bottom is a bit loose and wobbly. The included digital tuner is pretty basic, but functional enough. One drawback is it only shows the open string notes of either a Ukulele or Guitar (selectable). If you are more than a half-step off, the tuner won't tell you if you are sharp or flat. (ie: if your G is really an F#, you get no feedback). This might be an issue if you are restringing the instrument and your sense of pitch isn't very good, but you could use a smartphone app to get close and this for finer tuning. With all the reviews talking about how nice and smooth the frets are, I'm wondering if: 1) I got a lemon 2) Ranch switched OEM manufacturers and the quality went down 3) the people buying these have rawhide for hands 4) or these reviews are entirely fake. I'm guessing 1 or 2. A few hundred fake reviews is common on Amazon, but thousands? not as likely. While 1 star may sound harsh to some, I stand by it. They market this product as having well polished frets, these were atrocious. I might have been more lenient if it wasn't an marketed feature. The customer service email I got was also lacking, and really didn't help, even though they seemed to be trying. ... show more

  • Buy Your Own Tuner
Size: 23 inch Color: UK-23
I purchased this uke based on reviews and I currently have a soprano uke that I like but my fingers don’t fit the frets very well. The only thing that I’m not happy with is the tuner because I can’t tune this uke or any other uke because it’s jumps all over the place and I believe it defective. If anything else goes wrong I’ll be returning the uke and just buy the parts that I need. ... show more
