  • Great feeder for kittens - even when we're home!
I bought this for our two kittens, aged 3 and 5 months. Despite having only free “Amazon Vine” program reviewers, this sounded like the best fit in terms of features and price – so I went ahead and bought this. We primarily feed wet food during the day and dry food as a midnight snack so there’s food to hold them until morning. Both are rescues and have food insecurity; they get almost rabid at feeding times, and now that there’s two of them, they don’t leave any kibble behind for later. One of the cats continuously tries to get into the other’s food, so the divider between the bowls is a huge help. It doesn’t solve the problem (only weeks of training them not to stray will), but it absolutely helps them stay focused on their own food. This device solves a few problems for us: 1) quick feeding (no need to scoop out the dry food while being harassed that I’m not doing it fast enough), 2) a remote tool for delivering a weekend morning snack when we want to sleep in and we’re getting bugged for breakfast (just tap a button on the phone and go back to sleep – they’ll hear it dispensing food from quite a distance), and a way to schedule and/or remote feed the kitties without the need for a sitter if we decide to take a short overnight trip. This seems to deliver on all counts. It’s only been a week, but so far we’ve been mostly pleased. Notes on setup. The instructions are not well written, and the diagrams are confusing. There’s really no need for the short legs as our kittens are both tall enough to easily access the bowls when raised to maximum height. You can probably ignore the full set of short legs. It took a while before I realized that there are two supports of different heights to place under the divider assembly (if used) for additional stability. So, install the legs under the main unit and bowl(s), and if you’re using the splitter and divider, add the support underneath. Open the outer seal on the desiccant packet (but keep the packet intact!) and place this inside the lid with the hinged plastic holder snapped over it. I would wipe down all of the surfaces inside and where the food comes out with a damp paper towel and let it dry. Install three D batteries for short-term power less backup and plug the unit into a wall socket. Then flip the rocker switch underneath to turn it on. Pour in the dry food and snap the lid in place. I did some testing in another room before unveiling it to the kitties. Just make sure it’s off when moving it so you don’t waste battery power unnecessarily. Once powered on, you should see a blue light (for Bluetooth) and, after a few seconds, a red one indicating that operations from the device itself buttons are locked. This does NOT affect the app’s ability to deliver food, just the manual feed button on top (so extra smart kitties can’t dispense food on their own). You can override this by holding down the lock icon for a few seconds, which will turn off the red light and allow the other buttons on top to work. We plan to use the app exclusively, so I like that it defaults to locked (though it would be nice if the instructions covered this better). You’ll want to download the free Smart Life app, create an account, and enable the Bluetooth options requested in the app. It should then identify the device, and you’re good to go. You can then create a Feed Plan, select a portion size for an immediate feeding, and review the feed record. For our two young kittens, three portions seem to be a good amount for a normal feeding and two works well for a morning snack. There is an option to record a voice message for your pet, though this seems unnecessary. The sound of dry food clattering into the metal bowls is enough for our cats, and we don’t plan to use this for longer trips where a friendly voice might provide comfort during our absence. When we first ran it, some food became trapped in the delivery tube. Make sure the splitter is seated well, and periodically shake the unit a little to free any food that’s been dropped but not made its way to the bowls. This gave our kitties the idea that they could knock loose food between meals, which only made them more crazed. Fortunately, the issue hasn’t repeated itself since that first day. The cats often run in and check the bowls between meals, clinking their collar tags against the metal. It might be a good idea, when you’re home, to remove the outer bowls between feedings (and wash them as ours at least tend to drool into to them and/or lick them clean). This does present a small challenge: how to stealthily return them to the bases without the cats thinking it’s time for more. Overall, this is a good solution for the money with no significant issues. We only plan to serve the kittens dry food for their first year, and then retain this as an emergency backup for feeding during short getaways and times when we’re unexpectedly stuck away from the house far past dinner time. UPDATE (MARCH 2023): Our kittens outsmarted the engineers who made this product. By sitting on top of it, they were able to reset it (though they did not manage to trigger any feedings to my knowledge). I found a low-tech way to fix this: I taped a hairbrush over the controls, which we never use anyway. See latest attached picture for a visual. For the next version, I'd suggest a cover or hood over the controls might solve this. Otherwise, we still love this device. It works well for midnight feedings at home and several remote-controlled meals in a row when we're away overnight somewhere. ... show more

  • Bad service and design flaw
1st of all, I ordered a new one and was sent a feeder that was clearly used. Their was good residue, and the parts were all over the place. The freshness bag was open and the spot it goes in was broken off. There also wasn’t even an instruction manual. Despite all of that I managed to figure out how to get it together. Connecting it to the wifi was a pain, especially because the app is poorly made and not super clearly. I don’t know how much is a portion, there’s no clarity on that front either. Furthermore the part that the food comes out of to put it into separated bowls is poorly made and is easily moved by my cats or me just taking on the metal part of their bowl. In conclusion, a huge waste of money. Don’t buy it. ... show more

  • Love It
- Love being able to set up the meal time to the exact minute - Even without Wi-Fi, it pours out the food (if it was already set up in the "Feed Plan", or if you press the button). I believe the meal just doesn't go in the "Feed Record". - From the app, you can choose the portion and feed right at that moment (outside the "Food Plan"). - Uses Tuya app (don't know if you can use another one) - I use the app for a robot vacuum as well and I didn't have problems connecting either one - Can put batteries in as backup. - The metal plate is put in a way that is very easy to just remove and wash. - The top clicks on. To take it off, you have to press buttons on both sides. I mention this because some cats are...handy getting into things. - Speaking of handy... My cat pushes the dispenser making it lift from one side, so when it falls, little bits of food come out. If your cat happens to do that, don't worry, what comes out are bits that didn't make it the whole way out. - Just in case, not ant proof... - I use the dispenser in combination with a camera with motion sensor, which is great because I can be sure that everything's ok. *Tip, I would test all the portions first, to make a good feeding plan. ... show more

  • Works great when you get a good one.
The media could not be loaded. Let me start off with what I like. this is a nice pet feeder, you can set it to deliver food multiple times a day, and set the amount of food at each serving. they even have a cute gimmick where you can record your voice calling your pets for supper. It's actually a pretty good recording. We used it when we went away for a few days and it dispensed food to our furry friends. I like that it has AC power, but also has 3 D-cell batteries for backup in case power goes out. My biggest complaint (And the reason I knocked off one star.) is that the first one we got would not dispense food, it would make the motions, but eventually, jam up and give me an error code (That is not in the manual). I contacted the seller, and they were quick to respond, and after a short troubleshooting session, they replaced the unit. the seconds one has been working great. ... show more

  • One very extremely small problem.
Everything works amazingly and I've even had a couple power outages and the time settings never got reset. The extremely small problem is I can't figure out how to get rid of the sound when food is despensed. So I just recorded a quiet audio clip. If anyone knows how to fix plz tell me all the instructions said where how to create a new audio. ... show more
