  • Take you cooking to the next level!
Many people have a little Fry Baby (probably got it as a wedding or house warming gift), and might have even tried making more than just finger food with it and weren't impressed (like me). Well, this fryer will completely rejuvenate your cooking experience and get you all the WOWS at the table that you want. With the included dual baskets, you can fry 2 different food items at the same time without them mixing with each other. No, there isn't a separate temperature for each basket - it is all in the same vat, so just one temperature, but lets face it, you are going to set it on high (or just below) and probably never change it. The absolute best part of having a fryer like this is that it is always ready to go. Just plug it in and 20 minutes later your are ready to fry. When done, just move the fryer out of the way. No more pouring oil out of your frying pan (down the drain or into another container) each time you want to fry something. I use peanut oil as it's not quite as bad for you, and it smokes less, and the after-odor doesn't smell fishy like vegetable oil does (to me). I've had mine for 2 years now, and it has completely transformed my menu variety. Foods that will love you for cooking them the right way: French Fries - almost the same as your favorite fast food place Leftover Fries - no more dry/burned/soggy fries from toasting or microwaving. Leftover Chinese - to reheat their deep fried chicken/pork/shrimp. Onion Rings Battered (or breaded) mushrooms or cauliflower (and other veggies I haven't tried yet). Cheese Sticks Corn Dogs Battered/breaded Fish Southern Fried Chicken or Pork - OMG! So tender, hot, juicy! You won't believe how great these are. Chicken Nuggets Pizza Rolls or Puffs- you haven't lived until you've had them deep fried. Deep Fried Calzone - also called Frittelle in southern Italy. Think pizza fritter - OMG!!! Any kind of tempura. Funnel cakes Okay - so cleanup isn't great. Every couple of months I'll drain the very used oil into an empty container to put in the trash, then clean up the vat and surrounding surfaces as best as I can. The first few times I was meticulous about it. Now, not so much. I have my fryer housed inside of an unused side oven (that I slide out when I use it and slide back in when done), so I (and others) don't see it when not in use, so I don't care that it looks, well.... yucky. But who cares! The food that it produces is fabulous! ... show more

  • Best fryer with great capacity!! Great review!
I’ve been searching for a good deep fryer for years. I love fried foods, especially chicken wings. I can’t get great wings where I live so I started the adventure of making my own. There are TONS of deep fryers to choose from, but this caught my attention because of its size. I’ve fried foods using the stovetop before so I knew I needed something that can fit more than 3 chicken wings at a time. Also, I needed a fryer that was durable. I am clumsy and break stuff all the time so I needed it to be tough, durable, and easy to use. Setup was a breeze. Not too many sharp edges or anything I can hurt myself on. The cord is super short, maybe a foot long. It’s magnetic so I needed to make sure I had a power supply close. I mounted a surge protector on the back of a table in my garage. This allowed me to not cook in the house so it doesn’t stink it up, but I can easily plug and unplug the unit with no issues and it’s not in danger of getting pulled out. The thermostat actually lies in the oil so you get a good idea of the oil temperature. It’s extremely easy to put on an take off. There is even a safety function so if it’s not on correctly it shouldn’t power the unit on. MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR OWN DIGITAL THERMOMETER TO ENSURE EXACT OIL TEMPERATURE!!! One the fryer is set up, just dump your oil in and it’s ready. Heat up time is about 20 minutes. I would fill it more than 4 quarts if you are planning a lot of frying or doing real big fried chicken. Great thing about this is you can take the baskets out and just use the fryer alone and it frees up some room. Plus batter doesn’t stick to the basket. You need some fryer tongs or a strainer if some sort but the option is there. I’m looking forward to making donuts this way. I used this fryer 6 times before I had to change the oil (I use peanut oil. It has a low smoke point and tastes identical to restaurants. I’ve been able to find it by the gallon for as low as $12 on sale, Wallymart usually sells 3 gallons for about $35 which is a great deal.) Cleanup was much ‘easier’ than I expected. I saved the old oil bottle so I had a place to put the used oil (just use a funnel). I had no idea if any of it was reusable so the whole 4 quarts were dumped and sent to recycling. I’m not sure how us regular folks strain oil to reuse it. Restaurants have big machines they use to filter it again and again. Once oil was out just wiped it all down, rinsed the baskets (the handles even fold in for easy storage) and filled it back up with fresh oil to the fill line on the oil container. And done. I’ve had the product for about a month and a half and have used it well over 10 times. It doesn’t get too hot anywhere on the unit that I have noticed. The cover is great because it helps with splashing and spitting of the oil. When the unit is full and turned on, ALWAYS BE CAUTIOUS OF THE BASKETS IN THE FRYER!!!! It’s easy to get a sweatshirt or something to pull the basket while frying and then you will have a giant bad accident to deal with. BE SAFE AND SMART! READ THE DIRECTIONS! If you do this you shouldn’t have a problem. I am successfully making chicken wings, fried shrimp, mozzarella sticks, fries and more with ease. I’ve started making most of it from scratch and the food is definitely restaurant quality. some of it is very tough and it’s a trial and error process but the reward is delicious!!! ... show more

  • Not perfect but love the size and dual baskets
Bought this fryer to replace a cool daddy primarily because I just could not keep the plastic body of the cool daddy clean.. So opted for a stainless exterior which hopefully will lead to much easier cleaning. The two baskets are also handy as the wife likes sweet potato fries and I like regular, so doing both at once means she doesn't get cold fries while I cook mine hehehe. On the negative side, based on reviews I checked the temp and sure enough highest temp was around 330 degrees. Tried disengaging the temp sensor and that got it to 340 but I didn't like the sensor in the way of the baskets. As this unit is relatively inexpensive (and walmart has one with the exact same interior and heating element and includes the wide basket too for 20.00 less, but the stainless steel on that one is more like aluminum foil so I may get it just for the baskets and spare element). anyway I decided to tear this thing apart to see if I could "adjust" the settings. Before continuing.. make the call to either return this or keep it.. and I'm sure if you perform any tweaks the warranty is probably voided... just sayin.... I also do all my frying outside which probably makes me bolder about messing with hot oil as far as smoking it. onward: There are two sensors.. one fat and one thin. The thin is the thermal overload which trips the unit on over temp and is connected right against one of the elements. The fat goes to the thermostat and is in the middle of the holder between the elements. if you remove the back of the unit ( Needless to say, don't do this if you're not comfortable tinkering) you will see the thermostat housing behind the dial, you have to pop the dial and remove the two screws to remove the thermostat from the body. You should see that the base of the thermostat is notched (on the dial side) and mine was loc-tited, which I just scrapped off. I had a tool used to pop car trim fasteners that worked well enough to rotate the base. I turned it about 5 degrees Counter-Clockwise (so very small adjustment) When I reassembled and retested.. the oil temp got to 415 at the max setting.. oops.. so you may want to make a VERY small change.. Instead of trying another adjustment to the thermostat, all I do now is set the thermostat to 350.. which gives me 375 to 380 oil temp.. I always check the oil temp before frying and will keep an eye on the adjustment to ensure the thermostat cycles properly, but so far all is well, I will update if necessary. One other suggestion for a product improvement is an attached lid.. I hate having to remove the lid and have some place to set it down, it's pretty big.. my cool daddy just popped open and was much more convenient. End of the day, this fryer works well for me.. good size, easy to clean and now good temp control. ... show more

  • Better than expected
Well frying is probably something most of us should really avoid at home. It stinks up the house, requires vast amounts of oil we need to dispose of, is the least healthy way to cook foods, the fryer is bulky, grease spreads around the kitchen, 375 degree oil is dangerous, etc., etc. Still, when you want awesome french fries, onion rings, tempura, fried chicken, fish&chips or want to pretend you are at a carnival and make donuts, fried candy bars, have a seafood/fish fry or to just experiment trying to copy Long John Silver, KFC, or some other fast food or restaurant fried food you need the fryer. Reading the reviews for this fryer started me thinking about how my fried chicken would work in this fryer. How about the twice fried fresh french fries I saw on Food Network? Would tempura work? How would a home beer batter work? This item received very high ratings with just a few people complaining about the fryer not getting hot enough, so I decided to take a chance and order one for myself. My fryer doesn't have the temp not high enough problem. If anything, the fryer gets too hot and I have to set it around 350 vs 375 as suggested in order for the inside to cook without the outside looking like it was fried too long. I've tried my fried chicken and it turned out excellent, but the real star so far was the french fries. I bought a potato/vegetable cutter and did the twice fried french fries and they are really some of the best, if not the best fries I have ever had. Tried frying shrimp and making onion rings and I found out the secret. With fries and chicken you can place them in the basket and lower them into the oil. With a wet batter the basket should be lowered first empty and then you should use tongs or something to drop the shrimp, onion rings, or other wet items directly into the oil, otherwise they will stick to the basket. Had to learn that one the hard way. This fryer works great. If I were rich and had this thing built into the counters next to an indoor grill and six burner range it would work just fine. Cleanup is not bad at all. Wipe down the outside with a grease cutting cleaner. Dump the oil pan outside. Soak any stuck on food on the baskets in water. This isn't a day to day use item. First it would be really unhealthy. Second the cleanup stinks. Third the oil disposal is a pain. No, this is something to have for groups, for a week or so of frying foods every 1-2 days for a week, etc. All that isn't tied to the actual product. This fryer for it's function is excellent and I highly recommend it. ... show more

  • Great product!
This is a great product. It does need the bracket removed between the temperature sensors and heating element to get the oil to an accurate temperature. The problem with the little bracket is that it conducts heat directly to the sensor and the unit "thinks" the oil is hotter than what it actually is. With the bracket removed the sensors are held in place by the semi-rigid wire connecting them to the unit. It's sufficient support; the sensors are slim and lightweight. Don't let that discourage you from getting this. It's no big deal! If you are competant enough to use a screwdriver to remove a screw, you will be able to complete this task :) One of my favorite features of this product is that it is all dishwasher safe, with the exception of the heating element. The corner of the metal oil basin is rounded over sufficiently, so pouring the cooled oil through a strainer into a funnel is simple. I Iike that this product doesn't have it's own filtering and storage recepticle. I feel that this unit is more sanitary for that omission, fewer areas for food debris to get caught. Not to mention less areas of possible breakage/problems. It heats up quick enough for my needs, and keeps the oil at an even temperature for cooking food at a steady pace. If you are expecting to cook whole chickens with this unit, seek professional help and a different type of fryer... I did a lot of research before buying a fryer. So far as to look at a few of the more "commercial" types until ultimatly taking a chance on this one. I have owned this fryer for over a year and use it several times a month, cooking with only peanut oil. It works great! Shrimp, doughnuts, hush puppies, fish, French fries, onion rings, fresh tortilla chips, pickles, Guinness beer battered anything, chicken, whatever you can imagine! I think I will pick up the single large fry basket just for the tortilla chips. For the price and performance I am thoroughly pleased! Update: 02/10/13 It still works great! Update: 02/11/21 it is still working perfectly ... show more

  • This is my second one. This is my second one.
The picture is the new one that I bought a bit ago. It is the same one I got many years ago and it was time to replace it as I couldn't get it as clean as I wanted but it still worked, after years of use. We used it hard too. My grandson showed up and asked can I have the old one and now he has it at his place and still using it. This one is just as good, it is the same one to a Tee. I thank them for making a great product that I was scared before I got this one. Has two baskets and can make a lot of fried food fast. It does take a few minutes to get to 350 degrees, but after that it is on. I do hope this helps as I search this one out and couldn't believe it was still around. ... show more

  • Great fryer, really glad I picked this one over others
This is a great fryer. I did the temp sensor mod as soon as I unpacked it from the box which did a nice job (hovers around 380-385 for me) at getting it up to a true 375+. The unit is easier to clean unlike my old one, party because of how well this disassembles... everything comes apart. The stainless steel exterior and black plastic accents are pleasing to the eye and blend in with my kitchens other appliances (microwave, dishwasher, oven, fridge). This fryer was engineered really well. The most important thing is temperature control. A lot of the smaller fryer have much less volume for oil than this large 1 gallon one does. I don't plan on making a lot, maybe 1-2 servings of fries at a time, but with the smaller fryer, when you dump 1-2 servings of fries in (even though the basket can easily hold that many), the fryer doesn't have enough oil and when you drop them in, your fryer might go from 375 degrees down to 300. Then it slowly has to heat the oil back up again, and by the time it gets to 375 again, your fries are already cooked. This one has a much larger volume of oil, so it holds a lot more heat. When you drop frozen fries into this one, the temperature change is much less resulting in near-perfect crispy fries every time. Cons: I haven't owned the unit for very long but I'm just afraid of the temperature knob on it, after using a sponge to wash the panel for years, I hope small amounts of water don't get in via the hole the rheostat sticks out of and destroys the electronics. That is an extremely minor con, and it's not a con if it never fails either.... But I had to write a con to counter all my pros, so that's it! I recommend you buy this!! It's a great unit! ... show more
