    • An excellent 1080p projector putting out a lot of light.
I have two of this model ceiling mounted in training rooms projecting onto 130" 16:10 screens. When purchasing projectors I prefer the Epson brand from years of experience. This model is identical to the more expensive 1985WU, the only difference being wireless connections - which at such a premium I can live without. This model has all the wired connections you could need (two HDMI, two VGA etc.) and produces an excellent 1080P picture even in rooms with a fair bit of ambient light. This is a business projector and doesn't have the extreme contrast ratios you'll see on Epson's Home Theater models but it actually does a great job of projecting movies none the less. It produces about four times the light output of your average Home Theater projector so if you have a brighter movie room this could still be an excellent choice. The remote is basic but functional and typical of this range of projector. I'm deducting a star on the rating for two things; firstly this model has no horizontal or vertical lens shift - not a huge deal as it has good keystone correction but I'd prefer some lens shifting capabilities, secondly the lens cover is manual. When ceiling mounting your projector as is a very common practice you want an automatic lens cover that opens when the unit is powered up. On mine I leave the lens cover open at all times to avoid touching the projector, it is certainly not a deal breaker but it does mean i have to blow off the dust every now and then. ... show more

This is the first projector that I have ever owned. I did a ton of research trying to find the best one for around $1,000 and this seems to be it. I will be using this outside. A couple of things that I learned for using outside - you definitely want as bright of an image as possible. Not only the lumens of the white, but also lumens of color.... This spec tends to be hidden on most. This Epson has equal lumens of color and white. I haven't gotten my screen yet so I tried shooting the image on a block wall.... Pretty impressive! It can also project a very large image. The only thing that I didn't realize until later is that this projects a 16:10 image....therefore needed a 16:10 screen. Sound quality is actually pretty good, though I will ultimately be connecting to a Marantz and Bose speakers. As usual, Amazon had the best price. Overall, very bright, very clear image and comparable to the picture quality of the screen I use inside which is a 75" Samsung 7000 series. ... show more

Everything works fine. Good input choices. Only problem is the size. Reminds me of my projectors 20 years ago. It is about twice the size in all directions as my old Epson. Of course, it is much brighter and higher resolution, so I should expect a larger foot print. But it was bigger than I expected (and heavier). Not convenient to carry to meetings or classrooms. Does not come with case (purchased separately for $40). ... show more

Great projector. It's listed and being a business projector but I am using it for movies and home cinema use. It's brighter than most "cinema" projectors in the same price range. The listed contrast ratio isn't as high as some of those but they really inflate those numbers. It's really more about light control in your room and a good screen. Image quality and image motion is perfect. I am a filmmaker and very picky about that stuff. If I am impressed, so will you be. I have mine working with a 150" screen. I did all my initial testing with a Bluray of Avatar. It's pretty awesome It's a bit louder than I wanted it to be, but that will be true of all projectors. I plan on building a little hush box for it with some sound insulation and cooling vent fans. It doesn't have optical keystoning or skew adjustments, it's all digital and rather annoying, but I always make sure the projector is placed properly so I don't have to worry about that stuff. All in all it's a steal if you can find it for under $1400. ... show more

If you buy more than one be aware that the remotes cannot be isolated. For my specific setup the units work great.

    • Bright enough!
This is a really nice projector. Nice remote control with sensible menus, quiet, good resolution and bright enough for a conference room with a whole wall of windows. I have it ceiling mounted, being driven via HDMI from a Mac Mini, and am pleased with the quality.

This is the next best thing to a laser projector. Great Great pictures and very easy to work with! This is a powerful projector! We use it for our church services. We can cast an EXCELLENT picture from about 90 feet away from the screen with plenty of ambient light in the room! You just have to let the bulb warm up first! ... show more
