Update: It has now been two months and I am much happier with this. I had to buy a lot more quick connects so that I didn’t have to keep using pliers and worry about leaks all the time. A lot easier now. I highly recommend you get more. Also the little white hose that comes with it is for the regen process. I didn’t understand that at the beginning and the instructions were not clear about this. I also find that the water softener pellets work way better than table salt as per the instructions. I’m keeping my rating as is because they need to improve the instructions and including more quick connections is cheap and would have made the whole much easier. I have had this for a week now and purchased the water filter along with the water softener. The flavor of the water is starting to taste good. I was worried at first as the taste was really off. I full time in an RV with my family, so we use a lot of water. The water is slippery, so I know it is working. I purchased some testing strips as well as an electric tester. The testing strips have so far been saying my water is perfect. The electric tester, since day one, was giving me outrageous readings into the 800s. I think it may have been broken. Now that my water is tasting good, I am having a higher confidence that things are working as they should. The main cons of this product are the bushings that came with it leak, and you will need to purchase better ones from the store. The hose that comes with it is a pretty good quality hose, but I actually had a really hard time finding a hose at the store that didn't leak, ended up buying a couple of garden hoses. It only comes with one hose, but you will need at least two more hoses for the full setup. Again, the leaking has been the biggest pain; I thought I was good and didn't look at it for two days, and when I checked on it found the basement of my RV flooded. My biggest worry is this thing falling over, so I put it into a milk crate and then put that on a boot mat in case it leaks. It will hold some of the water. Now I check on it every time I dumb my tanks, I also have a water sensor down there that will go off if it detects water, so I will know if it is flooding again. Also, the water tasted awful for the first full week; you really need to flush the system to rinse it and get the bad taste out of it. That's not going to happen in the first five minutes, as the instructions say. You could do it for an hour, and it still wouldn't be enough. As I said, I am full-time RVing with my family, and now just over a week, the water is just starting to taste good. The big plus of this system is it doesn't decrease your water pressure like some other filter systems I have purchased for my RV. My water pressure has been amazing with this system, and it has been great! According to my test strips, I have also not needed to treat it with salt yet, so I cannot speak to that yet either. I got a lot of sediment in my water heater that clogged it up, and I expect this will help prevent that from happening in the future. ... show more

My real problem with this item is that it weighs a lot. The first flush was relatively easy to accomplish, then I had to lift an even heavier unit to it's normal place of operation. I'm permanently parked so it will only be moved when I need to regenerate. I installed this yesterday and am already experiencing a difference with my water quality. Followed the instructions for setting up the unit, put it in service and wow what a difference. For a few seconds there was an order but that could be from the resin but went away quickly. Could tell the difference in the water immediately but seemed the longer in service the softer the water got. This was a very worth while purchase. No spotting or deposits in the sinks. Customer service is great. Had a few questions about storing, each time I emailed I got a response back same day a response that answered my questions and was easy to understand. When I read the reviews on this water softener I was skeptical about how well it would work. This worked every bit as well as was described and maybe even better. My well water was so bad I could hardly bring myself to shower or wash dishes with it. I received this softener, hooked it up with no problem thanks to the easy to understand directions. My first shower with it was amazing. The water felt so soft and smooth I didn't want to end the shower. I used to have rust stains in the stool and sink but after using this softener I don't have anymore rust stains. I would recommend this softener to anyone with hard water problems.
