I have been full time in our 5th wheel for almost 3 years now. I had well water for 30 years when we lived in real house so I am quite familiar with water softeners and how they are supposed to work. This unit works well but we use a lot of water and need to re-gen about once a week. I have been testing daily with test strips so I know when I need to do a re-gen. We probably wash 2-3 loads of laundry every day. This seems in line with what I was expecting since we had our whole house softener set to regen every 2 weeks whether it needed it or not. Not sure how some people claim they can go 6 weeks? Doesn't seem practical to me unless they shower only once a week. I did find the good old Morton water softener pellets with iron reduction work best and probably 1/10th of the cost of table salt. I put a filter full in Hefty bags so I am ready to go. The Morton 40LB bag will last 3 months. $8 I use a clear filter similar to the one Pro Aqua sells since Amazon was out of them and fill it full for a regen. Then lay it on the side so it mixes the salt better. I use a standard hose verses the skinny one they supply and just run it with a very slow stream. Takes about an hour. I always fill my fresh water tank before hand so it causes no issues with the wife. We have been using it for a few months now and really like it. I suspect we will get 2 years use before we need to replace the resin. Overall a very good solution for mobile or temporary applications with limited space. All the fittings on my system worked just fine. I think you just need to know how to use a washer properly unless there is a defect. ... show more

I am not a full time RV'r but I'm more than a weekend warrior. I travel enough that I see hard water. Having a tankless hot water heater I worry about scale build up. This does a good job of softening the water. It is NOT a water filter. it only removes minerals. The lid does screw off making it easy to treat. I use a three-stage filter in my camper, and I was able to notice a difference in the taste of the water after installing this into the system. Despite the size, it does fit into the pass-through on my 5th wheel. If you have a bumper pull RV, double check the dimensions to make sure you are able to fit this without laying it down. My pool chemical test kit includes a calcium water hardness test. When tested, my city water ranges from 225ppm to 275ppm calcium. I purchased this portable softener specifically for our fifth wheel and was excited to see how effective it was compared to our whole house water softener which drops calcium to zero. I flushed the softener as directed in the instructions and set it up for use with my RV. I took a water sample and ran a calcium test and it too was able to drop my city water to zero calcium. I can't speak to others claiming to have run similar tests without success. I can only think they were testing for Total Dissolved Solids, trying to soften extremely hard water, or were conducting some other irrelevant test. Others judging water softness by feel isn't very accurate either. Also, those looking for a spot free rinse for washing vehicles need to look for a water deionizing system. This softener will not accomplish that, nor was it designed for that. Bottom line, this unit, for me, does exactly what it claims to, includes several useful hose adapters, and has an option for adding a pre-filter/recharge kit for a very reasonable price. If you are in the market, after all my research and subsequent experience with this Pro Aqua softener, this is it! Don't hesitate! ... show more

I bought this kit for my RV since my wife and I are full-time living in our RV. It’s done a good job of softening the water. I’ve had a few problems with this kit: first was the water softener fittings leak and I got a lot of water inside the underbelly of the RV and now I keep the softener on the outside of my RV, second is the first time to regenerate the softener with the filter kit and fittings provided the fittings do not screw to the filter housing or the softener. I managed to regenerate without the filter kit but hindsight I should have checked all the fittings when I unpackaged everything. ... show more

08/19/2025 UPDATE #2. I dropped all the way to one star. I can not get more than 3 days use without running 2lbs of salt to reset the tank and filter must be changed every 3 days. This does not hold up to the claims. "The 16,000 grain capacity will provide up to 40 days (2,000 gallons) of softened water depending on your hardness and usage". I am one person using the camper 4 days a week just in the evening after 7pm and night. 1 Shower in the morning, and washing 1 plate, bowl and glass and a fork each day. And the toilet. I use bottled water for drinking and brushing teeth. That does not add up to 2000 gallons in 4 days. In fact this last week was 3 days and the smell returned the 4th. This product does not work as advertised and I cant return it. So Im out a few hundred dollars. I also want to mention that finding replacement filter every three - 4 days use is almost impossible and very expensive. Based on this final review, and no response from the company, I have to give them a 1. It does work, but only for a few days. Then you end up spending a lot of time to regen and have to buy new prefilters every three days. 07/10/2025. Update. Dropping 1star. It still works, but after the first month, I’ve had to regen the system with 2 pounds of salt every week. I only use the camper Monday night through Thursday night and then I’m home on the weekends. So it’s only getting four days use.. the regen process running saltwater through it backwards works as it supposed to, but again only last four days. . I tried reaching out to the company, but they have not responded. It is possible that the system is defective, but not sure since it does work again after the regen process. But seriously, I’m not gonna do this every 4 day, once a month is doable, but not every 4 days. 03/31/2025 I did have one problem with the outlet from the big black tank. Not sure why the existing output leaked so bad, but I finally went and bought a new brass fittings from the hardware store and leak is fixed. I did try and tighten and retape the threads but no luck. The part was defective. Regardless, I still am giving this a 5 stars. If Customer service would like to reach out to me about this issue, i will be glad to share my information. I bought this for my camper at the RV park that has well water. Not sure I trust the water here even after this filter system, but it looks like it 100% works. In just the first 2 mins, this is what the prefilter looks like. My neighbor does not have a filter on his system and his water is dark in color and smells like Rotten Eggs / Sulfur. My water in the camper is clean and has no smell. Looks fantastic. I am having my water tested both out of the pipe and out from the 2 stage filter system, so I can see what the before and after results are. And then I will update my results. I hope I can come back and state that the water is safe for consuming. ... show more

Read the instructions completely, then read them again and set it up. We use many RV campgrounds, nearly all of them we have been to have had extremely hard water, hence the reason for buying this system. Setup and install is a breeze, you HAVE to run it for a cycle as per the instructions before use, if you don't, it's not going to work as expected. We noticed the water was much, much softer than before. Our skin is softer and having soft water will help with not only keeping you feeling smooth, it helps with your appliances in the camper too. Hard water is bad for water heaters and the rest of the equipment that uses water in the RV. I would certainly recommend this to anyone, with any size camper! Just remember to run the brine through it when recommended. All it takes is a pound of household salt and about 30 minutes of your time. All hardware, fittings and tubing to make it work is in the kit! also don't cheap out, buy the filter kit for it too. ... show more
