Description

We call it the "BIG SUCKER" for a reason! This powerful swimming pool leaf vacuum is a must have for in-ground and above-ground pools. The power is in the 8 mini jets; once connected to your garden hose, the eight water nozzles, located on the underside of the pool vacuum, turn into mini jets that create a strong suction to help pull leaves into the mesh vacuum bag for a quick and easy pool cleaning experience. Easy to use, the water flow from the garden hose creates a powerful whirlwind that quickly sucks leaves, dirt and debris off the bottom of the pool and into the bag for removal. Four multi-directional wheels aid in easily maneuvering the vacuum along the pool floor, to quickly remove big loads of leaves, dirt and debris. It is not just a pool sweeper, it is a leaf sucker and leaf destroyer! Easy to assemble, this popular pool vacuum uses a standard garden hose, and features a quick- disconnect pool vacuum adapter. A must have tool for pool maintenance! Includes 1 reusable mesh vacuum bag. Garden hose and pool pole sold separately. • This thing rocks
Style: Leaf
I would give this a bazillion stars if I could. We had so many leaves in the pool when we opened it that you couldn’t even see the bottom. This doesn’t get the small stuff but it sucked up all the leaves in under an hour, allowing us to run the normal pool vacuum for the rest. Super easy to use, easy to maneuver, and incredibly effective. ... show more

  • Powerful Leaf Vacuum That Saves Hours of Work
Style: Big Sucker
Powerful Leaf Vacuum That Saves Hours of Work The Poolmaster 28300 “Big Sucker” lives up to its name. This simple garden-hose-powered vacuum is a lifesaver if you’ve got leaves sinking to the bottom of your pool. I’ve used it after windstorms and at spring opening when the pool was littered with debris, and it really does pull in large amounts quickly. The eight jets create a strong venturi effect that lifts leaves straight into the attached mesh bag, and the four swivel wheels make it glide smoothly along the floor. What I like most is how much faster it is than scooping with a net—you can cover the whole pool bottom in a fraction of the time. The included bag is reusable, and replacement bags (fine or heavy-duty mesh) are easy to find. Assembly is straightforward: connect a garden hose and a telescoping pole, and you’re good to go. There are a couple of quirks to keep in mind. The unit isn’t weighted, so it takes a steady hand to keep it flat on the pool floor. The mesh bag works great for leaves and twigs, but finer debris like silt will pass right through. Also, if you overfill the bag, it can slip off when you lift it out, so it’s best to empty frequently. Bottom line: A must-have for pool owners dealing with heavy leaf fall or post-storm cleanup. It won’t replace your regular pool vacuum for fine dirt, but for big debris it’s fast, efficient, and worth every penny. ... show more

  • Works as it's supposed to. Works as it's supposed to.
Style: Big Sucker
Very effective at cleaning up large debris that settles on the bottom when high winds bring down a lot of leaves and such. This thing was great and spitting those twirly seedlings that flutter out of poplar trees too. Obviously, this can't replace an actual vacuum. But it's great to have on hand when you need to get up some large debris after a storm or to pick up some big stuff so that your vacuum doesn't have to be cleaned before it's finished. I like that the hose attachment snaps off, like an air hose or pressure washer nozzle, making it easier to attach or detach from the hose. If there are any possible weaknesses to the unit, it would have to be in materials. The swivel on the wheels seems a bit stiff, but still seem to turn well enough under water. The quick cinch on the mesh bag could be a bit stronger or the lip it goes under a bit wider. It slides off and on very easy and doesn't seem to loosen up but, once, when pulling the leaf catcher out of the water, with its bag a little over half full of debris, the bag slipped off the bowl and nearly fell back into the water before I caught it. Lastly, the plastic pole assembly is probably a weak point in the design that will eventually break, as it's just cheap plastic. Fortunately, it also appears to be a fairly common fitting, so it shouldn't be too hard to replace. If you can't see the bottom of the pool, as we couldn't when opening the pool at the start of the season, it can sometimes be difficult to tell the orientation of the unit. Since it's not weighted, at one point I discovered I'd actually been pushing it on its side. That said, weighing it down, would make it heavier to pull out of the water with a loaded bag, putting even more stress on the plastic pole hinge. Lightweight expandable water hoses don't pull on it as much, making it less likely to turn on its side, but at the expense of much less water volume. I ultimately found holding the water hose alongside the pole kept it out of the way and prevented it from capsizing the leaf catcher. Tying the hose to the pole should be even easier for bigger cleanups. It came fully assembled except for the mesh bag, which just has to be pulled over the top and cinched to the bowl. ... show more

  • Great Product! Great Product!
Style: Big Sucker
This thing is AWESOME!! Ease of use 3/5 - For me it was pretty time consuming to empty the bag and line it up with the ring every time emptied it. I also can’t figure out a good way to get it out of the pool without it “throwing up” a bunch of the gunk or the full bag falling off into the pool. Does what it’s supposed to 100/5 - The Big Sucker get nasty leaves, algae, worms, gunk etc. OUT of the pool. The amount of nastiness is each bag would take my pool vacuum 15 rounds of being emptied and cleaned. It’s a great product - like a said a few small design flaws but it gets the job done!! ... show more

  • Worthless
Style: Leaf
BLUF: This vacuum suffers from poor design, shoddy workmanship, and insufficient QA. Having received two defective items I would not recommend buying it. I'm highly disappointed with the quality of this "premier" product right out of the box. I've included a video to show the poor workmanship which shows that there is significantly more water flowing downward from the leaks than through the jets into the leaf bag. The first thing I noticed when taking the vacuum out of its box was where glue had leaked from the part that contains the jets. It went downhill from there. This thing is far better at agitating debris than it is at collecting it. I had better luck using this as a leaf rake than a vacuum. There's nothing even close to a vacuum action going on. I expect far better from a company that claims "since 1958, Poolmaster, a leading manufacturer of aftermarket pool and spa products, has had an unwavering commitment to quality, service and reliability". I'm giving Poolmaster one more shot before I write the company off for good, but I'm less than optimistic. Edit 5/22/2014: I received a 2nd unit after returning the first as defective and the it also suffers from leaks around the water jet housing. The 2nd unit worked a little better than the first in that it was able to pick up some large leaves, but it's nowhere near effective enough to clean a pool. I had the best luck by pumping the base to force debris off the pool floor and hopefully high enough to reach the jets. After 20 minutes of frustration I gave up and I'll be returning this one as well. Even the quickest of tests at the manufacturer in China would have exposed the flaw in both units. Granted, the way the joints are glued leaves little recourse for repair. The instructions claim that the quick disconnect for the hose also serves as a flow reducer. Even if my 2nd unit didn't leak it doesn't seem like there would be enough suction with that in-line reducer to create sufficient suction. That's pure speculation given that I haven't tested with a working product. ... show more

  • Cleans up a pool littered with tons of leaves quickly Cleans up a pool littered with tons of leaves quickly
Style: Big Sucker
The good: I was skeptic at first but this is a great little invention. Not only does it suck up and trap all the leafs in a good size mesh bag, but if you need to add water to your pool, it also does this while you are cleaning. Easy to assemble. The bag has a draw string that keep it attached to the top of the machine. I was worried that when pulling it out of the pool some of the bag would empty back into the pool but it did not. With the huge amount of debris, I barely filled the bag halfway. The unit has pretty good rollers that enable you to move it i360 degrees in any direction. Bag is easy to empty out How does it capture all the debris? The water hose that you hook up to it goes into this distribution ring with water that face up inside the bag. The movement of the water into the bag creates a suction on the bottom which has no issues with picking up dense debris. The bad: Nothing so far. I will update the review if there are issues. Other thoughts: I was cheap and first tried to use my regular pool vacuum to pickup the debris. It was too much and the debris got stuck in the pool vacuum connection and plugged it up. It was not fun to unplug this and there still may be debris that can't be reached. I should have bought this bug sucker in the first place and saved myself the hassle. ... show more
