  • I absolutely love it!!!!!!
I am a novice this is my first smoker. Going slow assembly took about 2 hours. The directions weren't exactly clear and could be better. My first smoke it was -6°F out yes below zero when I started it up, by the time my meat was done it was about 15°F. Everything I researched said don't cook by time but cook until optimal internal temp is reached. So to make a long story short I used 3 different cuts of meat and I looked for different criteria in all 3. Mind you not opening the lid but using the 2 temp probes that come with it one placed on the lower shelf and one on the upper shelf. There seems to be on average about 15°F difference from top to bottom checking it every 30 minutes. I played with the temp control all day trying to keep the temp between 215°-235°. The grill it self when you set it on 225° it has huge fluctuations I found to be as low as 180°-265°. Set at 250° between 210°-300°. While I played with the temp all day I did not open the lid hardly at all and just let the meat cook, only checking meat internal temp about the estimated time it should cook to reach optimal temp. When I did check internal temp I used my own digital thermometer and found each cut of meat needed between about 30-120 minutes more per cut. Overall each cut was close to perfect when done to our taste with great smoke flavor. End conclusion it will take time to become a pitmaster. I love the smoker and think it was worth every penny. My wife went from what do you need that for, to after one bite, we should smoke everything. There are a million opinions out there on what temp to cook things and what internal temp to cook them too, and what wood is best what meat is best? Do you use dry rub or sauce, do you inject or marinade, do you wrap in foil or plastic wrap if so for when and how long ect.... What I found is try different things find what you like for your personal taste and go with it. ... show more

  • Do not purchase PIT BOSS from Amazon
I purchased my Pit Boss from Amazon and it came on a pallet, the box was all ripped up, and when I removed the grill from the "carton" I found the control box smashed up. Now I have to work with Dansons to get it repaired. Be smarter than me, buy this excellent grill from Pit Boss directly. The only reason I rated this grill is because my brother owns one and it grills awesome ribs and steaks, great unit. Just don't by from Amazon, that's my recommendation. ... show more

  • Horrible grill
This is a very poorly designed grill. The grease doesn't drain properly due to a poorly designed domed heat shield. The direct heat slide control sticks from the food dripping within 1 use and can't be utilized without disassembling and cleaning. There is no clean out trap for the pellet receptacle so again, a bunch of dissassebly is required to clean it. The temperature varies a ton from one side to the other and front to back. The heat probes are too long so they heat up from the ambient temp and are terribly inaccurate. And if all of that weren't bad enough... the pellet auger completely stopped working after 2 months and a dozen uses. The company customer support is the worst I've ever experienced. They never answer their phones, the live chat function on the website is disabled, I imagine because of lack of personnel and a huge amount of complaints. The email auto replies that the company doesn't respond to emails anymore and to call the number that never is available. Seriously... Awful grill, awful price, awful customer support, awful experience! ... show more

  • Should work properly the first time
Got one with a bad temperature controller. Contracted Pitboss was told they would send out new/improved controller. Have contacted them since and was told about supply problems. 6 months later no controller. Advise to pass over Pitboss for a company that .... 1. Knows how to make a product that works right the first time ------------. OR ------------ 2. Knows how to correct an issue with faulty merchandise Take a pass on Pitboss will be my montra when it is time to upgrade ... show more

  • Great product for the money.
It is all around easy to use, and a pleasure to cook/smoke on. The only trick is figuring out your “P” setting as per outside temperature. I’ve used my smoker roughly a dozen times already, and absolutely everything has come out delicious.
