  • Great sound and great bargain
I bought this because we got a new 4K TV and that means you need to change everything - the Roku, the Netflix subscription, the HDMI cables... But it is worth it. This is a better receiver than the 5 yr old Sony I had. It was easy to set up and has worked well. The sound quality is quite good and I got some Atmos speakers for the front, but honestly I cannot find much content that has Atmos except the Disney channel. If you get this you will find that HBO and Disney have the best sound and Amazon and Netflix is less uniform that way - but all do have most of their shows in high quality sound formats. The receiver figures this out and does the proper decoding and, voila! Good sound. One day, a surround speaker shorted because of the speaker wire pulling out. The unit shut itself down, ran a self diagnostic and told me to there was a speaker short. I fixed it and everything went back to working. NICE! ... show more

  • Great receiver with few minor issues.
Have only been using Pioneer receivers for the last 20 years or so and so I only stick to the Pioneer brand. I've been this model for 2 years now & so far it's perfect with minor issues. 1: You can only use 2 speakers for Atmos while most other models in this price range offer 4. 2: The receiver randomly mutes itself. This does not happen often but when it does I'd guess it's around after 10 hours of use and so I have to unmute with the remote. 3: A few people stated the receiver makes a clicking sound at random times. To clarify, the clicking sound comes from the receiver itself, not the speakers. It sounds like the amps are turning on or off that are or aren't being used. 4: When switching sources, it takes a second or two for the audio to kick in. All minor issues that shouldn't discourage someone from purchasing this receiver, unless you're looking to use 4 speakers for Atmos. ... show more

  • Didn't know what I was missing until this.
My old AV Receiver was a Pioneer Elite VSX-56TXi that was almost 16 years old. I knew technology had made great improvements, but mine was still working until recently. It was then that I decided to purchase a new receiver after having my same year old plasma die, so I figured might as well by both. I really like Pioneer products so that was what I was looking for and when I saw the VSX-LX104 and all I can say was WOW! it was easy to setup with TV and the other features really impressed me. It took a few days to figure everything out, but I really like this receiver. I really like the ability to sit outside and listen to a different music source while those inside watch TV. ... show more

  • Good receiver for the money, but...
This receiver is replacing an old Onkyo TX-NR515 and so far I am pleased with the quality of this receiver, but my AV components are in a out-of-the-way closet and I use an RF to IR receiver and have tried both 1) connecting an IR extender to the front IR window of the receiver and 2) the 3.5 mm IR jack on the back of the receiver: neither option works. All of my other components work with my IR receiver except for this receiver...not sure why. I had to download the Pioneer App on my iPhone and control the receiver that way...either that on physically walk over to the closet and manually adjust the receiver. ... show more

  • I love my new receiver!!
I replaced an older Onkyo stereo receiver because it didn't have enough hdmi inputs. I saw good reviews on this Pioneer receiver and also saw it was $100 cheaper on Amazon compared to Best Buy. I did read some reviews that cautioned that it might be difficult to setup so I was prepared for a battle. I hooked up all the speaker wires and cables and did the Initial Setup, which included setting up wifi and it all went very smoothly. I had no problems at all and it sounded awesome! I love being able to stream Pandora and music from my iPhone! I'm so glad I upgraded to this receiver!! ... show more

  • Great sound and value
I purchased this as a replacement for the equivalent Denon unit which i returned because after a few months it kept going into protection mode. Sound quality-wise the Pioneer is excellent and seems to have more power, there seems to be more bass and detail to the surround-sound too. But more importantly this one appears to have better heatsinks internally and so likely more reliable (we'll see !). Playing vinyl is great, no cracks, pops or rumble so they did a great job with the filtering ! Other than the great sound the big plus of this unit is more audio inputs on the back. On the minus side speaker connectors are a bit closer together so better with banana plugs, remote isn't quite as easy to set volume but easier to use with CD, game and other inputs (Denon had to delve into deep menu settings to setup). Also the Pioneer equalization uses white noise for room equalization vs swept frequency for Denon Audessy so the room correction isn't as good but hey it sounds great so I'd still highly recommend. I would have given it 5 stars if amplifiers had a bit more power and Audessy correction but with 7 speakers still plenty loud for a big room. ... show more

  • Exceeded my expectations
I have not bought a new receiver for a long time. I have always had either Yamaha or Onkyo. This receiver is amazing. My speakers are not new, but they are not cheap either. I setup my system as true Atmos with ceiling speakers and 1 sub (5.1.2 I think that is correct). I did use the onscreen setup menu along with the setup-mic. The sound for movies just blows me away. We do have a dedicated room so we leave it setup for movies, and we are more than happy. BTW, this was cheaper than the Yamaha and Onkyo. ... show more

  • Lasted 3 months
First time purchasing and using a Pioneer Elite AV Reciever. Worked great until a few ago it started acting up. It started by shutting its self off and produced error messages regarding checking speaker wires. My speaker wires are fine, I did not move the speakers at all. a few days ago it stopped working. My television advises me that there was no signal coming from the HDMI outputs. Tested different HDMI cables, but that did not solve the problem. I reconnected my old Yamaha and everything is working great!. My guess is that something blew regarding the HDMI connections. I will start the warranty process and leave comments on that regarding the process later. ... show more
