I’m an avid Philips Hue collector and have recently branched into LIFX as well. That said, Hue remains #1 in its ability to seamlessly integrate into your home and with third party applications (HueDynamic Pro, OnSwitch). I’ve always used the interior light-strips but disliked the circular light points on it that have a tendency to piss me off. I’ve tried under cabinet lighting for my parents and grappled endlessly with the reflection of the light-strips on their hardwood floors. In fact, I still haven’t solved the issue even though they don’t seem to mind it. Now I realize I should have installed outdoor strips instead. It’s -thick-. Like a sleeve of Starburst. Mildly flexible as in you can make a letter U easily enough but it will not sharply conform to a V unless you use some of the extra mounting brackets. It is unable to be cut to fit, or otherwise shortened but honestly I’ve never trimmed one ever! It comes with an adequate power line and grounded connection that is wind proof and very heavy. I confess I haven’t installed mine outside. I used it above my kitchen cabinets and wish I had another one! Whereas the interior light strip has a distinctive pin-pointed bevy of LED lights along its length the exterior variation emits a unified glow. It’s going to lie down more or less in one fashion and won’t be super twistable or bendy. It will however be durable and waterproof should you want to put it outside or light around your bathroom. I dig that with some price checking you can pay almost 40-50% less than the MSRP. I don’t think it’s worth full ($160) price. It is double that of the interior version. I’ve paid anywhere from $78-90 for mine from Amazon (new) and that makes me happy. I’ll include a photo of this product as I’ve applied it. *My latest update is below* Having the same problem here. The last 6 inches do not light. Tried 2 from Best Buy and now 1 from Amazon, all the same problem. I will now wait to see when and if this problem is corrected, because I definitely want these lights when it is fixed. Aside from that major problem they are very nice and get very bright. The different colors look fantastic. Your move Philips... *update* Received a replacement from Amazon which had the same 6 inch problem. Now I am just returning for a refund. I contacted Philips via their Hue Facebook page, in which they immediately responded that it is a known problem, and they will reach out to me when they have a solution. Again, I will definitely buy these when the 6 inch issue is fixed. *Second Update* I received a second replacement from Amazon, which became my 5th set of lights I was gonna try. Plugged it in and the same 6 inches remained unlit. I really wanted these lights for my porch, so I decided to just install them and perhaps buy them again down the line when the problem was fixed and swap them out then. I undid the bundle, straightened out the strip and hung them up, then plugged them in, then noticed the last 6 inches were lit. Seems like perhaps the strip needs to be stretched out completely? Who knows, but I’m satisfied now. Try it yourself, worse case. Just return it. Updated to 4 stars. 1 off for the hassle. Lights are amazing fully lit ; ) ... show more

I needed an LED light strip system for a barrel stave wall art project I was building (see attached pictures). I have used cheaper, remote-controlled color LEDs in the past and had not been impressed. Plenty on Amazon. They're all the same. But for this project, I needed it to be nice. So this time I bit my knuckle and sprung for the much pricier Philips Hue system. I was NOT disappointed. The range of colors and brightness is excellent. The color consistence along the entire strip is perfect. The dimming is far better than any other product I've used. The only issue I encountered is that the Philips strip is much thicker than most others. It is about 1/2 to 2/3 of an inch thick or so, due to the weather proof casing. Also, it seems to resist standard double sided tape or 3M foam tape. So the only way I could mount it was using the clips that come with it. Not a big deal, but worth noting. Once I had the whole system set up, including the hub, some switches, and the mobile app, it completed a very impressive display. Now my bedroom wall has nice barrel stave wall art that wakes me up each morning with a gently brightening cheery sunrise and settles the night down with a richly colored dimming sunset. I love the outdoor light strips. We are pretty heavily invested in the Hue ecosystem, but even so, I was very apprehensive about buying the outdoor light strips due to the price and most other reviews indicating an issue with the last foot or so of the strip. But I took a chance and am happy I did. Initially when plugging in I saw the same last 6 inches of the light strips not light up, but once they were fully extended for a few minutes, everything was fully lit. I bought two of these and lined both sides of our walkway instead of buying cheap-o solar lights that barely put out any light and get knocked over and destroyed in a month. I've gotten comments from several neighbors that they love the idea. And the brightness is crazy. I can see our house from all the way down the street as we're driving home at night. Paired this with a Hue color bulb in our lamp post and sconce by the door and have changed colors for Valentines Day and Saint Patricks day so far. They have also weathered several snow and ice storms over the last month+ without any problem. Like all Hue products, expensive, but worth it.
