This is a great addition to my Hue system. The install and initial pairing went flawlessly and I had no issues with that. Connection is solid and I've had no issues with it disconnecting. The picture is brighter and clearer than I expected due to the resolution, but it's honestly been fine. Notifications come through quickly so it's never really "after the fact" as some cameras are. The sound quality is pretty good, but I do wish it was a little better. Sometimes it can be hard to hear what people are saying. When it senses motion, I have it set to turn on the outside lights if it's after dark - it also work well. So far I've been pretty impressed with it.     • Works Well if You Are Already Deep in the Hue Ecosystem

This wired Philips Hue Secure Doorbell works as expected, and the hardware delivers on the basic premise of a doorbell camera. The 2K video looks sharp, the field of view is wide, and notifications arrive reliably through the app. If your goal is a doorbell camera that can trigger Hue lighting scenes or tie into your existing Hue automations, it performs very well in that role. I question whether I need Hue triggers though for actions through the camera or doorbell. With nearly any camera that feeds motion sensor triggers I can create an automation to turn on the parch lights. Which in my case are controlled by a Leviton HomeKit compatible switch to normal LED lights. The drawbacks show up when you try to use it outside the Hue environment. It technically supports HomeKit with live views, but it does not integrate as smoothly as devices that are built specifically for Apple’s platform. You do not get HomeKit secure video so you’ll only see a live view in Home. To access the full range of security features, the Hue app becomes necessary, including its notification permissions and all the devices you would need like sensors. That adds another app to manage unless you plan to treat Hue as your complete security setup. I already have tons of Hue bulbs and an Ecobee smart thermostat and other HomeKit devices. This is yet another thing which kinda works together. I have tried a variety of security systems including Abode and Ecobee, and none of them have been ideal, especially because HomeKit has limited RBAC access controls for cameras and settings. Do you want kids to have access to the lights, the garage door, locks, cameras, thermostat schedules, or automations? Maybe some subset of that, but not all of them. I do not blame Hue entirely for this since the ecosystem itself creates some of the friction. This doorbell clearly caters to homes that are already centered around Hue products. If you want a straightforward wired doorbell camera that works cleanly with your Hue lights, this is a solid choice. If you want something that integrates well with HomeKit as part of a larger smart home strategy, this is not the best fit. ... show more

I like the look of this camera which is why I gave it a shot. If you don’t mind paying a monthly subscription for basic features like motion detection and are happy to put up with lots of false positives, then maybe this is for… someone? I got 64 motion notifications one night with zones set up and little to no actual activity in those zones overnight on average, so this one is not for me. The whole arming / disarming security features in the Hue app is also very confusing and over-engineered. Trying to figure out how to just get simple motion notifications like most other cameras was a slog. Another important note is that there is no Apple Home / HomeKit support for this device despite there being some confusing publicity about plans to add support for Hue Secure devices in 2025. ... show more

I couldn’t even use it. The set screw at the top of the doorbell won’t come out. It spins in place which prevents the doorbell from being secured to the metal plate. This reeks of a device that was created by engineers without the input of actual humans.

Before I installed this doorbell, I checked for the proper voltage of the transformer because it is wired only. I didn't have any problems using the existing wire at the entrance when I performed the physical install. After syncing the unit to my App, I was able to set the chime preferences and set alerts for when to check packets. Also, since I had synced my internal lights, I was able to create an external visual indicator at my entrance to allow for an immediate visual indication each time my button was pressed. The feed was fast, and the latency was normal for a security camera. The field of view was clear and covered most of my front porch. Night Vision was also clear and not washed out like many other night vision devices. Lovely doorbell camera. Philips is a leader in lights, and I cannot wait to switch to an all Philips setup. Price is a bit steep, but it is Philips Hue after all. ... show more

High quality video doorbell that works with my Hue lights. Installation was a bit fiddly but generally ok. I was very impressed with the visual quality of the camera feed. The wide angle coverage is great, the resolution very good and nighttime visuals particularly impressive. I love that I can set it to provide visual notifications when the doorbell is pressed via my existing Hue lights. Motion detection works well. Battery life seems good so far. I really have no complaints about this camera; it has been a fantastic addition to my smart home setup. The installation process was surprisingly easy, and the functionality works exactly like I had hoped. The integration with the broader Hue ecosystem is a nice touch, but the video quality itself is the real standout. The most impressive feature for me is the wide-angle view. This doorbell offers a massive 180-degree field of view, which is a significant upgrade compared to the 155-degree camera I was using previously. You can see so much more of the porch and entryway.
