For 7 years, we were very happy with our 1st Gen Nest Doorbell--until it burnt out. But this 3rd Gen is exceptional. The image is much clearer. Magnification to see detail is really easy & clear as a bell. Watch out for the Notifications settings. They're a little tricky to find & get right--but extremely simple. The notifications are sent to the email of the account you registered with Nest, but you can add family member emails as additional members. They then get the notifications as well. This provides a lot of flexibility. The person at the door, with facial recognition, & package recognition (when a package is just thrown onto your mat from a delivery person hiding around the corner), are rapid & responsive. Choosing a door chime for your Google Hub from a variety of choices is nice. I like the Westminster chimes. The doorbell is easily configured to initiate the ring on your house's mechanical chime as well (or not at all), at your preference. Because we permanently use a porch light controlled dusk to dawn by Google Home, the doorbell is configured for daylight only. Not black & white night vision is needed. This gives a brilliant & clear color picture of the vicinity whether in sunlight, or in the dead of night. Setting this up & getting to the settings isn't as simple as it was with the Nest account (you now must use Google Home only). Look in the top-right corner of your video display from the camera, & click it to find the settings icon & then options. Installation? (mine is the wired model) just follow the instructions. Turn off the circuit breaker, as instructed. For me, the rewiring of the small (capacitor) "puck" for the 3rd Gen inside my chime box on the wall was troubling, because it was significantly different from the 1st Gen. Keep it simple, the 3rd Gen puck is much easier to install then the 1st Gen was. This new 3rd Gen doorbell is sleek solid & heavily-built. It's an excellent piece of engineering, & well worth the upgrade.

⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5) I’ve had a good experience with the Google Nest Camera. The video quality is clear, even at night, and the motion detection is reliable. The app is easy to use, and I like being able to check my home from anywhere. Installation was simple, and the notifications are usually quick. The only downside is that some advanced features require a Nest Aware subscription, which can add to the overall cost. Overall, it’s a dependable security camera and a solid choice if you’re already using Google’s smart home products.

We recently upgraded our home cameras to Google nest, and we decided to upgrade our Ring doorbell to Google nest as well, since we were already paying for the Home Plus. The doorbell was easy to install, but a wiring diagram should definitely be included. When our new house was built, the builders added MANY cables for a doorbell. The outside was easy to wire to the doorbell. But the inside had multiple wires that were all the same. We were uncertain of the circuit to make, but after searching for a wiring diagram, we found a helpful image and our doorbell works just fine. Video and audio quality are both great

Fantastic!! I had an old Nest wired 1st gen doorbell for years. It died. I had avoided upgrading my cameras trying to avoid the new Google Home app, I loved my Nest Home app. Anyhow I broke down and upgraded my doorbell cam and three of my old Nest Cam 1st gen outdoor cams. Wow!! All three cameras are superior, much clearer, better face recognition, more features, and wider field of view. If you were hesitating, don't upgrade and more to the Google Home app.

Upgraded from my old Google doorbell to this and it's much better although I miss the Nest app. The Google Home app is ok, but for some reason isn't showing me all the faces for me to add to my library. It shows when someone is at the door but doesn't prompt me if I know them or not. This is a good upgrade as far as clarity.

I switched from having a wired Ring doorbell to wired, 3rd gen Google Nest doorbell (2025). I just got fed-up with the constant wi-fi drops, time delays between clip recordings, and the need to recharge/replace the battery, especially in the middle of the winter. Both Ring and this Google Nest have a similar wire structure for installation, and connection to the internal chime. Although the electrician replaced it for me, it was a quick straightforward install. Here are some specific comments: PRO Excellent quality video. Strong connection to wi-fi with no unexpected wi-fi drops. No battery to recharge/replace. Great night vision (B/W). Sensitive to motion, including at night. Sensitive to sound. No time delays between clips when senses motion. Option to add names to "unfamiliar" faces. CON Too expensive: Both the door bell and premium subscription 9even the Standard Plan). On the iPhone: You need a Google account and subscribe first. You cannot subscribe via the Google Home app. After I subscribed using the browser it appeared in the Google Home app on my iPhone. Learning curve: The menu on the app is not very user friendly. Too many clicks are needed, for example, if you want to download a video clip. I went to [help.atd.com] to get instructions. View: The camera is set to 1:1 aspect ratio, so there's no way of making the view wider. Also, cannot record a live view on demand. Overall, I am happy with the doorbell camera and its functionality.

Setting up the camera isn't difficult, but don't be surprised if you need to completely remove it from Google home and start the process all over again to regain all features. The image quality is just okay; it seems poor for a 2k camera. The field of view may be wide vertically, but very narrow horizontally. What's worse is the narrow chassis of the unit itself means you'll find yourseld needing more mounting accessories if your doorway is recessed in a brick wall. Otherwise, the IR blowout with night vision renders the image illegible. Connecting to an existing doorbell system is very simple. Similar to the smart thermostats requiring a constant voltage wire, you may need to upgrade your doorbell transformer to handle higher VA. Compatibility is equivalent to anything else on the market. The app is easy to use and the wifi connectivity is rock solid. Overall, compared to the Ring Doorbell Battery Plus, I think the image quality is worse and the smaller chassis makes the angle harder to get it right. The lack of a dedicated doorbell adapter as offered with Ring is also a ding. My expectations were higher for this.
