Our trainer recommended this as our dog is an escape artist. He knows how to buck out of his harness to easily. She said this will be a safety last link as it will get tighter but not choke him if he sheds his harness, this will not slip over his head. So far, it has worked great. I just got this today and it’s already making a world of difference for my lil French Bulldog (small was great) who is learning to walk on a leash. He was like a bucking Bronco every time I tried attaching a leash on his last collar, and I was completely unwilling to tighten his collar to a point where he couldn’t back out of it. It would have been way too tight. He backs off from pulling quite quickly with this. I like that it only tightens to a point, not a full choke. And when he’s relaxed on the leash he’s rewarded with a nice comfy loose collar. I definitely recommend :) ... show more

We really like the Martingale Pet Safe collar. This is the second of these collars we’ve purchased because we like them so much. It is a comfortable collar for our dog. There is a good size ring that we can easily attach the leash to and a smaller ring to attach his dog tag to.

Excellent collar, budget friendly and durable (for most dogs). I bought a size Large 1” last autumn when I adopted, but just purchased a Medium 1” for a better fit and couldn’t be happier! The martingale loop changes size with the collar size! Photos top to bottom: my dog’s flat collar in gray, new Medium collar out of the box without fitting, and the Large collar fitted to my dog so that the martingale loop *when closed* is safely inescapable without choking. Photo 1 shows martingales with closed loop, photo 2 with open loop, and photo 3 is a close-up on the martingale loops to show difference in size between medium and large. My dog’s comfortable collar size for everyday wear is around 17”-18”, and proper closed martingale restraint is at 15.5”. When not leashed, the fitted Large would hang so loose (22”) that she could easily back out and it could shake off in a vigorous game of tug. There was too much slack in the loop! Sizing down to a Medium 1” worked for us because it has a smaller loop. She gets the same secure fit pulled tight, and less wiggle room when loose, making it a safer collar both on and off leash. ... show more

Our small rescue dog is half Italian Greyhound, with the silkiest, slipperiest and most delicate neck fur imaginable. We tried harnesses but 90% of them are lined with mesh, which might as well be sandpaper. He is not a runner or escape artist but has been known to slip out of a collar or harness while asleep. This Martingale-style collar is the first thing that has ever worked. He is comfy and cooler in it. The design and structure make it seemingly impossible for him to separate from it. Very pleased! Haven't had it long enough to give it 5 stars for sturdiness and durability, but I'm very optimistic. ... show more

My dog has worn out at least 6 of these the past 9 years. It works great and never comes off! I Would give it 5 stars but the sizing is WAY OFF. He has always worn a medium but this latest one is so large. The photo I attached shows it is about 14.5 inches and it's adjusted to the shortest length. Buy one size smaller! ... show more

Seems very durable. It fits, but I should have ordered the smaller size (medium) for my <50 lb lab mix. I adjusted it as small as it would go for her. I used it a little bit before I found the other one I lost and have started using it again. I didn't have any issues when using it.
