  • A birding must have!
Style: Papilio II 8.5x21
What's not to love! Lightweight, ease of use, and most importantly, able to quickly change focus without losing sight of birds. From the simple robins hopping around nearby or the osprey flying before locating and catching distant prey. These binoculars allow me to focus near and far. I imagine them being useful at outdoor concerts, sporting events, museums and so many other places where an object is just far enough away to miss details. ... show more

  • Great lightweight Binoculars
Style: Papilio II 6.5x21
So far nothing to dislike. You'll be amazed that you can focus on plants, insects et so closeup and nearby. No regular binocular can do that. The light weight makes them easy to carry when hiking - no heavy weight hanging around your neck.

  • Great Item.
Style: Papilio II 6.5x21
We use the binoculars to monitor our beehives. They work great. Clean, clear images at close range.

  • AMAZING BINOCULARS HELP YOU SEE UP CLOSE AND FAR AWAY
Style: Papilio II 8.5x21
These are the best binoculars I have ever owned. Amazing versatility - allows you to see up close as well as far away and crystal clear and easy to focus.

  • IMO - worth the price
Style: Papilio II 6.5x21
I disagree w/ several reviews re: this product. It is very compact and easy to carry around - NB the supplied case is nothing to brag about but it is not a function part of the product. Very easy to focus from 18" to โˆž. Eye relief adjusts very easily. I like that eye relief is via turn knob in three stages that stay firmly in place. No it does not have a great field of view - larger/heavier pair of binoculars would be required for that. But the field is adequate. There several 'like to haves' but at this cost point I think the Pentax Papilio II 6.5x21 Binoculars is worth it. ... show more

  • Absolutely fantastic
Style: Papilio II 6.5x21
Binoculars optimized for astronomy are different from those optimized for birding, o sailing. I've loved nature documentaries my whole life, and only became a birder a few years ago, and have been doing fine with a pair of Eagle Optics birding binos, so I was a little reluctant to spend close to 100 on a new pair that's not waterproof, doesn't have a wider apparent field of view, doesn't have better/ED glass, etc. But after reading lots of reviews I finally understood that these binoculars serve a different purpose: their unmatched close focus is for observing butterflies, insects and flowers, really up close. And I mean *really* up close. Stuff I had never ever seen despite being right there. These binos open the door to a whole new universe, a "macro" universe. Now when I go birding I carry my other binos in their harness, and these papillios in my waist. My only regret is not getting these sooner. The things I cloud have seen!!! ... show more

  • Very Impressive, Plenty of Magnification
Style: Papilio II 6.5x21
I'm very impressed by these relatively inexpensive binoculars. Based on other reviews I went with the 6.5 power instead of the 8 power and I think they have plenty of magnification. The image is bright and has high contrast even in fairly dense woods. In addition to butterflies, we're using them for other insects and flowers. I've been amazed at how often I look at a flower and discover a tiny bug that is so small that I didn't notice it at all. I still remember the first butterfly I looked at with these -- a duskywing. Just a dull gray, right? Nope, under magnification and in direct sunlight the wings take on the appearance of burnished bronze -- incredible. I have found these to have acceptable performance for casual distance use, also. My wife is a serious birder and has some serious binoculars. If I'm hiking with her and carrying these for close-up use I can still use these to assist with bird observation and identification. If you get these you will discover things and details you never knew existed. ... show more

  • My clearest optics
Style: Papilio II 8.5x21
I witnessed a honey ant drag its dying friend into a nearby shade, it seemed to have panicked while its friend died as it was running pointlessly in circles around it as the other one was dying. Once the dying ant has passed, the other ant probed it for about 30 seconds. Not really sure whats going on in this ants head, but it then began to drag its dead friend towards a small patch of dirt, letting go every ant space of distance to check ahead, then return to drag friends body a few more ant spaces foward This all happened within a sqft of space in my backyard ... show more
