    • Problem finally solved; faulty equipment
11-16-17: So, overall I'd give this softener 5 Stars once I received a properly working control head/valve. But getting a defective unit originally caused a lot of headache and extra cost. I needed to pay for two professional installations plus the necessity to repeatedly contact ABC about the problems which was very frustrating. I understand that equipment is sometimes faulty but if you are on the wrong end of such a situation it is confusing (trying to figure out the problem(s), frustrating (trying to reach and solve the problems with the company, and expensive (having to pay for two professional installations in this case). 7-7-17 Update: ABCwater did finally send out a replacement head/valve and we had to wait for our installers to come available again, so there was lengthy delay on both counts. However, I am happy to report that the new head does appear to work properly. The brine tank water is sucked out and replaced as designed. House water is now noticeably softer. If everything continues to work properly I will probably bump the rating up to 5 stars in a few weeks or months. A very frustrating experience overall but the end result is what counts most. Previous Review from late April: This is a preliminary rating (2 stars) which will still go up or down based on how the seller 602abcWATER handles the critical problem we're having with this unit. Right now the softener is not working properly and therefore three weeks past delivery we do not have any water softening capacity for our home. From the very first regeneration cycle the problem was crystal clear: Brine water was getting completely sucked out of the brine tank during the brine draw stage but no water is ever added back during the brine fill stage. So after the entire regeneration there is just a dry bed of salt left in the brine tank. After contacting abcwater, and talking with Bryan there (not the easiest to reach), I was sent a replacement float for the brine tank which he thought might be the problem. It arrived six days later and I installed it yesterday. Unfortunately, the exact same problem happened again during the regeneration cycle I ran after installing the new float. Brine Draw works fine; Brine Fill doesn't happen. So I've left a couple more e-mails + a phone message and am waiting to hear back about what comes next to solve this problem. It's hard for me to imagine that anything short of a replacement control head will fix this but we'll see. UPDATE: I did finally hear back from Bryan after contacting through Amazon. He did send out a replacement head and we will be installing it soon. The softener is completely useless as it stands now so 2-stars is all I can give this experience so far. This could still end up as a 5-star review but the problem will need to be fixed or something on our end for that to happen. $800 (incl. prof. install) and nothing to show for it so far. Frustrating, to say the least. The product description says that the control head (5600SXT) has a 5 Year Guarantee. We'll see. I will update how this goes and what happens when a softener simply does not work properly right out of the gate from this seller. Stay Tuned.... ... show more

So, I'm not one to write reviews, but I thought this product was worth the time. Save your money...don't buy from a culligan dealer. Culligan quoted me at $1500 for a new system, and this one was a third of the price. I did plenty of research on soft water systems, and this one seemed like the best bang for the buck, especially with the 10% resin. Now if your house doesn't already have a system installed, you may want to look into having someone put it in. Most people including myself don't want to waste softened water on the yard or don't enjoy the taste of soft water. So you may need to run some separate lines for these places. Installation of this system was easy as can be. The tank comes full of resin, and it's a matter of turning a couple screws to get the system ready for water. Now most houses have 3/4" water lines, which I wish I would of contacted the company to get a 3/4" bypass, mainly because no one in my town had 1" shark bites. But a quick trip to Menards and I was able to purchase 1" threaded to 3/4" shark bite connections. Screwed them to the bypass and was ready for the water connection. In my case I was replacing an old system so shut off the water, cut the two copper lines from the old system, put a 3/4" shark bite on both and ran a short piece of pex to the softner. Snap/snap...done. You don't need to be an experienced plumber to hook this up! And I didn't mention, this unit comes with a zip drive that walks you through step by step on how to put it together. Very nice! I was a little concerned about the programming when purchasing also, but it's all on the zip drive. Walks you right through it. So if you're hesitant on buying this online, I totally get it, I was too, but so far so good. No more white spots on the dishes, evidently everyone's hair is softer (wish I had hair), and you get that soft feeling after a shower. I've only had it hooked up a week and haven't tested the hardness of the water after the install yet as you can tell the softness is getting better and better daily. I'll check it after it goes through a cycle, but I can already tell it's better. So overall, all great so far. 3 day free shipping, step by step directions, and easy to install.
