First off, I have had a predator get all but 2 of my chickens. I moved them to a new secure run and needed a coop for them while I build a new, bigger henhouse. This is a nice, small chicken coop. It was packaged very well, and came in 2 boxes. 1 box was heavier than the other, and I really wish they'd equalized the weight more. I had a lot of trouble getting it to the back of my house. The coop itself was very easy to put together. Im a 51 year old woman and I lifted each part and put it together myself. It took about an hour. The pictures in the instructions are clear. Although it was packaged well, the box was damaged and there were a few chipped placed of wood. My 83 or old father helped me get it into the large run to finish building. Each piece was well constructed, and all the hardware was provided. Even 1 extra of each of the screws. Downside, every piece had a different size screw! Why? There are a few spaces a snake could definitely get in, so iI dont think Id have it outside of a bigger run. There are 2 nice size laying boxes. I lined it with a cut piece of feed bag, then nesting material and herbs. My chickens have yet to lay. I believe it's due to the stress and fall molting. Overall, and good sturdy coop.

This Chicken coop is cute as can be. I wish the house part was a little bigger. I also wish that the wire extended under the nesting box like I've seen other coops have for more run room. But I will be adding more run to the coop myself. Otherwise, it was easy to assemble. It seems sturdy, as I've had to move it a few times to clean under it. I would recommend putting it under some sort of overhang as the paint doesn't seem the best coating. But I will paint it again next year. Plus just to make the coop last longer. Also the dimensions for measuring go from roof to end so the run itself isn't 83 inches long. Which I thought it was, but that's a little my fault because I didn't look too much into the true dimensions. However, if you have a little building or crafting background it's not hard to extend with chicken wire and 1x2 boards. One piece was a little damaged in shipping, but otherwise packed well and arrived earlier than estimated.

I have never had chickens before, so this is not an expert review, but I still have an opinion. We bought this house to hold 2 big chickens. The assembly directions weren't great, but we had it together and functional in about 2 hours with 2 people. The house looks great, it is adorable, and it is a great size for 2 chickens. The nesting box and sleeping area could definitely accommodate more chickens also, but the run seems small for more than 2 if you are not letting the chickens free roam during the day. Additionally, we have had to move the house around a few times and it isn't too heavy for 2 people, and seems sturdy. The bad things: The chickens couldn't walk up the ramp, it was too slippery, so we got some grip tape from a skate shop, and now it is fine. We weatherproofed the wood because it didn't seem very protected. The latch on the little house door was not as pictured, it is just a piece of wood with a screw. The screws that hold the ramp up are poorly placed and way too small, so it broke off in about 2 days. We fixed it easily with some longer screws. All in all our chickens are very happy with it. We have had them about 3 days, and they are laying eggs and being cute, and seem perfectly content, though obviously they are happier when they are exploring the whole yard! Edit: so it's been almost 9 months, the cute chicken house survived a very bad winter well, and the chickens laid eggs every day, so they were happy too! It still looks just as it did when we bought it, and we've had no problems with it. Edit: it's been 2 years now, and the house is still holding up well. I have had to reattach the ramp a few times, but this last time I just used a very long screw and screwed the ramp directly into the house wood (instead of using the bracket) and it's much more sturdy! The pan at the bottom of the house is made of metal and has some rust spots now. We still love our little chicken house, and it's still working very well for us!

Cheaply built very thin wood cute kit will have to add wood to the bottom to keep it off the ground. Otherwise the weather will just ruin it. Had some hail recently and it punched a bunch of holes in roof hens were in garage. They are happy in it. Instructions are lame.i will be repainting it with bettter paint. The paint China used looks like kids paint. Overall I wouldn't buy this again unless it was $100 that's all it's worth! Not sure this is weather proof you will have to repaint and add caulking. Easy clean out tray and nice egg laying boxes. I'll prob add a better lock to the little door it would be easy for an animal to use there paw and slide the lock open. I will be building a better one.

Excellent product. We have no complaints. It turned out to be better than anticipated. All bolt and screw holes as well as parts lined up exact. It was delivered in a timely manner with no missing parts. One white roof cap was cracked, very minor. Carpenter glue, sand paper and white paint got it handled. While my wife screwed the coop together I, like I said, repaired the very minor roof cap. I found the wood (fir) to be of good quality, finished smooth and fit together with precision. Common sense says to give the finished coop a clear wood sealer such as wood sealer or something comparable as anyone would do with outdoor wood or frame type items such as decks and outdoor wood furniture. The hardwire is fine. I changed some of mine to eliminate the concern of raccoons. We live in the woods and have smart raccoons. Replaced the bolt type latch with a hasp and lock system; that's all. I also built a 2' high 8' long and 4 1/2' wide platform upon which to set the coop and cage run. This keeps it out of the dirt, prevents raccoons and others from digging under and keeps me from bending down to access the door openings. It also provides a way to hide and protect the electric wiring necessary for caring properly for the laying hens. One must not forget the timer for the lighting, heat lamp for winter, especially peeps, as well as water heater in the winter. I made wooden cleats that fasten the coop assembly to the platform. Wind can not be a factor. I liked the ramp. It is well secured by sturdy brackets and very accessible for hen traffic in and out of the coop. The coop is quite versatile to suit ones views. I raised the one roost to about 12" and used the other roost to hang the various electric items such as light/with timer, heat lamp and water heater wiring. I enclosed, somewhat, the nesting box for a little more privacy.. Hens like that, you know. Two individual nests. My wife and I have raised laying hens in years past and find this coop excellent for two or three large size brown or white layers. The coop product is well built, sturdy and very easy to assemble. It took about 2 hours for my wife and me. Then a few days in my workshop building the platform, hold-down cleats and wiring. Excellent product and fun to do.

So I wrote this review and am sad to have this type of update. I thought this was an okay product. But after owning this for a few months I felt I needed to update my previous review. This is good for those that want a "nice looking" hen house. But it will NOT PROTECT YOUR FEATHERED FRIENDS FROM PREDATORS! What I learned is that the screen is stapled on the inside which keeps them IN the coop. It DOES NOT protect them from predators getting in as it takes little force to push the wire inward since the wood is so soft. I suffered such a loss and am devastated. I thought I was protecting them when in fact I was putting them on display for predators. The loss is still raw and I felt compelled to alert others to something I had not previously anticipated. Strong screening is only as strong as the wood it is stapled to. I am heartbroken. PREVIOUS REVIEW: So I bought this and put it together mid July. This is the end of August so it has been in the elements for 5 weeks now. After reading other reviews, I anticipated the wood would be soft and it is. The instructions were minimal and I didn't have any issues putting the bed together thanks to those who were kind enough to point out the challenges they had. I simply laid everything out first. I love the look of the house and get many comments on how nice it is appearance wise. The guineas love it too! After realizing the wood was not very sturdy, I chose to put down a layer of pavers so it wouldn't sit directly on the ground. 2 weeks later I realized it really should not even sit on pavers and opted to build a frame with treated 2x4s. I'm not sure what the designer thought it would sit on, but in my opinion, this won't last very long if it is in direct contact with the ground or water. The ramp into the house is already falling off! I will have to figure out a way to reattach it but the wood is very thin. The nesting area is great. My guineas are only 10 weeks old, so I took the divider out of the nesting area for now. The screen is very sturdy! But you must realize the wood is soft and should take care to protect it. I'm not sure what the stain has in it but it appears to be thin and doesn't provide much protection only color. I anticipate having to put something better over the current stain before long! There is also an area near the door where the wood doesn't seem to be very sturdy. I ended up paying more than it currently is. I am disappointed in the quality but opted for this one because the overall size and height exceeded what the others offered. I have 3 guineas in mine and added a perch near one side. They seem very comfy and I plan to let them free range soon, so this will only house them at night. They currently range for a few hours but like to run back inside this coop and are safely tucked in by dusk.

I bought this coop as a "chicken jail": a place to quarantine new additions to the flock or to isolate a broody or sick hen. It's about the best you can buy for a kit in this price range, but should not be used as a permanent home. It is very small and made of lightweight (balsa?) wood. It went together easily, but I had to leave one screw off when it started to split the wood when it was only halfway in. The roof is very heavy duty. I cut some craft wood to go over the windows and rear vent because it got wet inside when it was windy and raining. It is crucial to keep hens dry, especially in winter when humidity can cause frostbite on their combs. The house sits low, so I would not recommend this house for medium to large birds, I would say two pullets or bantams. No more than two, and they will need free range time outside the coop regularly. In the photos you can see my large Red Star sex link and my tiny Hamburg mix bantam (look hard, she has good camo) for an idea of size. The existing run they are in is 4' high. There's also a pic of my tween Australorp and bantam Polish hen in this coop. If you are planning to start keeping hens, invest in a solidly built structure, not a kit! But for temporary purposes, this one is a good buy.

First, let me say that I have 4 Orpington chickens and this is way too small to use strictly by itself. I already have a large fenced in area of the yard specifically for my chickens, so I placed this inside that fenced area. This gives them plenty of room to roam during the day, but the hen house gives them a nice secure place to sleep at night. The coop itself is not very large, but my girls huddle together at night anyway so they don't particularly need that much room. As I said, the run is really small and I would not lock my chickens in it (with the exception of night time) for that reason, but it is a great place to keep their food and water. It was very easy to put together. I will tell you, at first glance, the directions look like they may be vague or a little complicated. Once you get started...it is really very simple. I put it together by myself in about 45 minutes. A little advice to make it go faster...Lay all the pieces out in order (they are all numbered). Have your screws laid out in the packages (labeled A - H) so you can see the letter easily. You can use a phillips screwdriver for everything, but a drill makes it go much faster). I also used gorilla glue on all the pieces to give it a little more sturdiness. The gorilla glue expands so it seals the corners a little better too. Oh, and one more thing. I placed this on top of bricks all the way around to keep the wood off of the ground. I do wish it was a little larger, but it will do fine for what I need it for. If you have more than two large hens, and plan on using this alone to keep them in, this (in my opinion) will be way too small. All in all, I am very happy with this hen house.
