This sump pump is strong for its size and weight. The design is all plastic from what I can tell. Included are two attachments which give a decent variety of hose sizes for attachment. The cord was long enough to drop into a 2000 gallon water tank and fiber cord/rope was included for retriving it from the bottom of a tank. The instructions suggest that you tie the cord securely and lift gently. The fiber cord is not very heavy duty, but did work for pulling the pump back up. The larger hose you use, the better the flow. Using your average 3/4 inch garden hose I measured a flow rate of one gallon per 10 seconds or 360 gallons per minute. The flow without a hose attached was much higher than this, but I dont have a better hose to test/measure it with. During testing I removed the pump from the water and waited 30 seconds. It did not turn off, it just started dry locking and making unplesant noises. During normal operation this pump is very quite. I couldnt hear it while it was submerged and flowing regularly. Overall this is a quite, strong, and small pump. The automagic turnoff didnt function for me though, so I would keep an eye on it to prevent it from burning out when the reservoir runs dry. ... show more

    • Great lower cost submersible pump
It's only 1 HP but it really pumps, works great to evacuate water from basement, pool, pond, etc. Doesn't make a lot of noise but it is noticeable. It will suck out water down to about a quarter of an nice so you can get most of the water out without a problem. The body is made out of a nice firm plastic making it lighter but not fragile. Will evacuate dirty water fairly well without getting clogged as long as the solid is smaller than the pipe itself. It's got about a 17 foot cable for power so you can get it down into a hole, etc. and does have a bottom suction on it as opposed to side that some have. It does come with additional accessories to hook it to a variety of connections and we've had no issue with it at all. ... show more

    • Strong performer, doesn't do all that it advertises.
I have a pool, jacuzzi, live on a river, and live in FL - land of hurricanes. So, portable pumping power, and extra pumping power is a must. I have some smaller pumps; thought I'd get a full 1HP for when I need it. This definitely pumps a strong flow of water, although I wouldn't say it pumps half, or even a quarter as much as my 2HP pool pump - but that's a different animal. My only question on this, is they claim to have some 'water sensor switch' to drain water to 1/25". However, when you get down to a couple of inches, it seems to switch to a slower mode - which I think is just air lock. Whatever it is, I'm sure it is not good for the pump. I even unscrewed the first angle connector and put grease on the O-ring to make sure it was not leaking, but this did not change anything. If you lift the pump up to simulate it finishing off the water, it doesn't actually shut off. I suppose it would eventually, but that would be bad. So other than that minor operational issue (which could be a non-issue or major issue depending on your application) this is a strong quiet pump which also supplies you with connectors for all sorts of hose sizes, including of course a garden hose. However, if you use the garden hose adapter you lose out on the one-way valve. Quality and finish also look nice, doesn't come off as cheap at all. ... show more

    • Does a good job for the price
This pump does a good job and is fast to drain a pool and gets the water almost completely out with very little left in the bottom. As long as you take care of the pump and follow the directions for maintenance.
