Very sturdy but had some trouble assembling the Allen head bolts-holes were a bit small, used a hammer to force them. Only concern is that when assembled and in place the hinge with the side lowered can hit the leg of the person getting on and off the bed- not a soft object - must be careful. Lowered the hinge to resolve but that lowers the side rail when up - still should work - I hope!!

I was pleasantly surprised by how well-built this bed rail system was made. With a lot of parts, it is surprisingly sturdy. The only parts that have a slight wiggle to them are the under-mattress parts, but they are not going to be subjected to any kind of force that would cause them to fail. Assembly is pretty easy and straightforward, but I will mention several things that you will want to keep in mind: 1) Read the instructions and lay out the parts in the groups that you need for assembly. This will keep you from being frustrated. 2) The instructions show you exactly what the assembled parts look like, it helps if you lay out the parts so they are in the same orientation as they are in the images for each step in its assembly. 3) If you have a helper, assembly will go a lot easier. Having someone to refer to the instructions while you are assembling the bed rail and provide an extra hand to hold parts steady is a luxury I wish I had. It can be done by yourself, but an extra set of hands is a great thing to have. 4) In Step 4 of the instructions, you will be assembling the upper rail section to the lower leg section. Extra hands are very helpful here. There are two attachment points on each side where the two are joined, make sure to place the upper and lower sections so the holes line up correctly. You will need to depress a spring-loaded pin on each side of the leg section to start putting them together. The pins will pop back out when aligned within the larger hole in the upper rail’s bracket. Then using the included hex wrench, tighten the bolt and nut in the other hole. It is much easier to insert the nut in the hex shaped hole and then tighten the bolt. The hex hole acts like a wrench to keep the nut from turning while you tighten the bolt. 5) Addendum to inserting upper rail to lower legs: When just the two spring-loaded pins are holding both parts together, there is a little wobble between the two which creates a pinch point. Keep your fingers away from where they come together or you may end up with a small blood blister from being pinched. How I know this is unimportant. 6) The upper rail section has a horizontal, rectangular plastic bar with a recessed area on one side. That recess must face away from the bed/mattress as that is where you install the rechargeable LED light that illuminates the floor for the individual getting in or out of bed. If you have already assembled the upper rail to the under-the-mattress section with the recess facing the bed, disconnect the rail assembly from the under-the-mattress section and install it the correct way. How I know this is also unimportant. 7) The LED light comes with a USB-A to USB-C charging cable. The light itself comes out of the box easy enough, but the cable may be wedged in place on one end of the box. If you opened the box at the opposite end of where the cable is, you may need to retrieve the box from the trash can to rescue the cable. How I know this is also unimportant. 8) Installing the LED light is easy. There are two square pads on the back of the light which are magnetic on one side and have an adhesive tape on the other side. There are two square “wells” in the previously mentioned recessed area, that is where the adhesive side of the magnets goes. Per the instructions, with the magnetic side stuck to the light, and the protective paper removed from the sticky side, you install the light as a unit with the magnets. I included a picture showing how to align the pads so they end up in the “wells” instead of where they don’t belong. 9) This is important! The rail is easy to lower by depressing the release lever and pivoting the railing out and down. Tightening the attachment bolt also acts as a tensioning device for how easy the rail swings down. Don’t make it loose, make it so you must push it down instead of it freefalling to avoid injury from an unexpected sudden movement of the railing. As far as I can see, the railing is stable, and yes, you must use the included safety belt to keep the rail from accidentally sliding out from under the mattress. But if you need a bed railing for someone who requires rails on both sides of their bed, this is not for them. I can honestly recommend this product for its intended purpose.
