Hard to find a decent over thermometer, easy to read. This one suits our needs. It is digital (check), it has a probe with a long wire so you can read it without heat in your face (check) and it's accurate. Would buy again

    • Replacement probes free from OXO.
Second unit, first unit died after 7 years of 1or 2 times a week use; electric oven, gas BBQ,etc. Original probe lasted 3 years but a closed BBQ lid killed it. Replacements have been free from OXO Customer service. Have gotten 3 in the last 5 years. They even pay shipping. Original probe had a nice finger handle, and wrapped nicely. Current production is slick stainless, somewhat hard to grip with greasy fingers, and the cord is about 1 inch too short to wrap well. Reacts semi-fast to temp change, so not an instant read device. Tested my new unit, about 2°F high at boiling and 3° low at 32°F . 1 ° low at body temp. About like my original. Batteries last ok, temperature alert tone too soft to be of much use to me. Update Jan 2025. Unit finally died. 3 years of use. Thought it was the probe, got a FREE new probe from OXO (Great Customer service). Still had the same problem. Wiggle the probe connector just right, it works; but it is the probe connector socket that is bad. Not repairable. I will get another and can still recommend this item, even though it is a little pricey and I didn't get the life out of it that my first one had. ... show more

I bought this meat thermometer because I had one before that was accurate and easy to use. I’ve only used this one maybe 6 times and it is not working. There is a problem with the cord or something! I am very disappointed!

    • A kitchen utensil so useful I can barely cook without it (ok, that's a stretch, but I hate to)
This is the best oven thermometer I've ever had. I'm on my third (the first two didn't fail me, I failed them). If I ever get a double oven (like my dream kitchen has), I'll have one for each. There are temp settings for every kind of meat, plus the ability to set a custom temp setting. The alarm beeps, you pick the dish. It offers Chef and USDA options for meats, as well as doneness settings for each (rare, medium rare, etc.). As to the ones that I failed, one I let the temperature probe on my first fall to a naughty puppy who smelled the yummy, yummy smell of meat on a probe left to near the edge of the counter. The second failed when I eagerly yanked the probe from the meat while trying to do too many things at once for a holiday meal, and pulled from the cable, not the actual metal probe. The digital display is easy to read, the alarm beeps when it's time to pull the food, and I've found it invaluable when resting meats prior to carving; once the temp drops a single decimal point, it's ready. ... show more

    • Difficult to find compatible replacement probes
Thermometer is easy to use and set up. Pre-programmed meat temps means no need to keep a temp. chart. Does not register low temps at all. However on only the second time using this thermometer there was a loss of signal from the probe. Probably a broken wire. The temperature was reading just fine then nothing. I searched for a replacement probe but nothing is offered on Amazon or directly from OXO. I tried ordering some made for ThermPro thermometers that were allegedly compatible but they immediately registered negative temps in a 68° room. I sent them back. I eventually broke down and got a ThermoWorks Chef Alarm. For giggles I tried it’s with the OXO thermometer. It immediately read an accurate room temperature. So for reference ThermoWorks Pro Series probes are compatible. I would’ve rated this product higher if there were probes available specifically for it rather than having to hunt for one that is compatible. Overall worth the money but only because I did manage to find a replacement probe that worked. ... show more

I love this thermometer. The menus are easy to navigate, the display is easy to read, temps are accurate, it stores neatly and the probe is light enough to be able to use with fish. The down side? I've gone through two of these units in two years. Both times the probe failed. The display read, "Insert probe" and the temperature said "LO", even though it was in a piece of meat at the time. As another reviewer mentioned, the wire has to be wound very tight to store it. I think the strain over time makes it fail. ... show more
