    • Replacement probes free from OXO.
Second unit, first unit died after 7 years of 1or 2 times a week use; electric oven, gas BBQ,etc. Original probe lasted 3 years but a closed BBQ lid killed it. Replacements have been free from OXO Customer service. Have gotten 3 in the last 5 years. They even pay shipping. Original probe had a nice finger handle, and wrapped nicely. Current production is slick stainless, somewhat hard to grip with greasy fingers, and the cord is about 1 inch too short to wrap well. Reacts semi-fast to temp change, so not an instant read device. Tested my new unit, about 2°F high at boiling and 3° low at 32°F . 1 ° low at body temp. About like my original. Batteries last ok, temperature alert tone too soft to be of much use to me. Update Jan 2025. Unit finally died. 3 years of use. Thought it was the probe, got a FREE new probe from OXO (Great Customer service). Still had the same problem. Wiggle the probe connector just right, it works; but it is the probe connector socket that is bad. Not repairable. I will get another and can still recommend this item, even though it is a little pricey and I didn't get the life out of it that my first one had. ... show more

    • A kitchen utensil so useful I can barely cook without it (ok, that's a stretch, but I hate to)
This is the best oven thermometer I've ever had. I'm on my third (the first two didn't fail me, I failed them). If I ever get a double oven (like my dream kitchen has), I'll have one for each. There are temp settings for every kind of meat, plus the ability to set a custom temp setting. The alarm beeps, you pick the dish. It offers Chef and USDA options for meats, as well as doneness settings for each (rare, medium rare, etc.). As to the ones that I failed, one I let the temperature probe on my first fall to a naughty puppy who smelled the yummy, yummy smell of meat on a probe left to near the edge of the counter. The second failed when I eagerly yanked the probe from the meat while trying to do too many things at once for a holiday meal, and pulled from the cable, not the actual metal probe. The digital display is easy to read, the alarm beeps when it's time to pull the food, and I've found it invaluable when resting meats prior to carving; once the temp drops a single decimal point, it's ready. ... show more

Hard to find a decent over thermometer, easy to read. This one suits our needs. It is digital (check), it has a probe with a long wire so you can read it without heat in your face (check) and it's accurate. Would buy again

I bought this meat thermometer because I had one before that was accurate and easy to use. I’ve only used this one maybe 6 times and it is not working. There is a problem with the cord or something! I am very disappointed!

I ordered this item on 3/29, received it on 3/30. For Easter I decided to cook a rack of lamb for the first time ever, which is why I ordered the OXO leave-in probe. I used it on 3/31. Inserted the probe in the rack of lamb but as the lamb cooked the temperature on the thermometer never moved. However, after cooking the lamb I inserted the probe…perfectly cooked. On 4/2 I decided to prepare burgers. But I sat down and re-read the instructions and BINGO! The reason the thermometer didn’t work the first time is because I did have the plug completely inserted. So this time I made certain the plug was completely inserted, set the temperature, inserted the probe into one of the burgers…SHEER PERFECTION! It worked perfectly. And it didn’t hurt that I was surprised with a $40 Amazon gift card, so the item was free. I selected OXO because the products are of good quality and the products are reliable. This product is great for grilling, which is mainly why I bought it. The temperature probe is durable, though I don't like the way it wraps around the display for storage. At least there is a storage space, though. I like the continuous monitoring. What would make it just a bit better is to link it to my WiFi of Bluetooth for my phone. ... show more

I was so excited to receive my new thermometer and eagerly used it on my Thanksgiving Turkey. Well, the turkey registered 160 deg F, but it looked underdone. Consequently after the holidays, I attempted to check the calibration of the unit with a cup of boiling water to determine if it was registering correctly. Unfortunately, it was not. I called the company phone number provided by Amazon and the representative at OXO agreed that the unit was not calibrated correctly. The result of our conversation was that OXO will send me a replacement. I'm not only impressed with OXO for standing behind their products, but I am impressed that Amazon has made the appropriate information easily available to achieve the high standards a consumer needs to be satisfied with purchasing products with their company.
