Unexpectedly received two 120v heaters instead of one, which was nice since one heater takes about 4 minutes to heat 1 and 1/3 cup of coffee, while two heaters will do it in 2 minutes. This is in very good agreement with calculations for the heating of water. You do have to stir the coffee while it's heating or it will start to boil around the coils. I don't know if the shipping of two was a mistake but two stainless steel heaters for $14 is incredibly inexpensive. I also ordered a 12vdc car heater but returned it before trying it after realizing my car 12vdc outlet is limited to 10 amps, not the 12.5 amps needed for 150 watts, and because even if it worked the time to heat would be about 8 minutes. ... show more

My coffee tends to cool too fast after its brewed and sits on the brewer hotplate. This little heater hangs on the side of the cup (I use a Tupkee double insulated glass coffee cup, which I love and it has a fairly thin rim, but it works on my regular thicker rim cup as well. It heats so fast I have to stay right there or it boils over. It only takes maybe 30-45 seconds depending on how big the cup is. I really love this. These work really well, but buyers should be aware of some limitations. If you put one of these in 15oz or so of water, it might take close to 9 minutes to reach max temp. Disclaimer: my attention span isn't long enough, so I haven't really watched it every minute to see if it happened sooner. The point is, it takes a good while. The same amount of water in my mini electric kettle takes like 3 mins--but that figures: it's 600 or so watts. So, be aware of the realities of energy and heat. A 300 watt coil is going to heat half as fast as a 600 watt device. ( ... so can you put two of them in there at once? I haven't tried that. Seems complicated and risky, depending on your container and outlet situation.) For travel, I think this could work great for me for tea: heat the water right in the mug, relatively small mug. For pour-over coffee, though: I like to make a bigger batch and this seems too slow. But the alternative is packing an electric kettle or coffee maker of some kind and space may not permit, so I'm keeping these immersion eaters as an alternative when needed. ... show more

This is my favorite water heater for traveling. The build quality is decent, it only draws a few hundred watts unlike a larger immersion water heater. Thus it can be used with some portable power packs and an inverter, or in the car with an inverter / 110V outlet. Do know that these "can" burn out after a while, so my advice is to get a two pack, to have redundancy. Thus far I only fried one unit though. Also, ALWAYS rinse immediately with cold water after its removed from the mug or else life will be severely degraded. ... show more

    • TESTED TO SEE WATTS USED AND TIME TO BOIL

I tested 13 oz of Water (1.6 Cups), a little less than the 15 oz the advertising says takes 9 minutes to heat. In order to follow the instructions, you have to use the right size cup so the immersion heater element is properly submerged as per the manufacturers drawing/instructions and also not plug it in until after it's placed in the watr. Then leave it in the water for ~ 15 seconds after you unplug it. The results are: 13 ounces of water took 9.5 minutes to come to a boil reaching 212oF. At 7 minutes, the water was at 188oF The measured Wh draw being used came in at 309 - 314 consistently While it took a little longer to charge than expected, I'm very happy with this little devise. I purchased this for potential power outages to use with my Bluetti Power Battery, and my main concern was that the reported Wattage was correct and that it did heat in approximately the time it advertised. This immersion heater is about like all the rest. Insert in liquid, plug in, let heat, UNPLUG, wait 30 seconds then remove from liquid -- in that order. Or you will burn it up, like any immersion heater. The best part about this product is the fact that you get two for the price of one. And they are both just fine. ... show more
