Good tool

  • almost perfect, does work,
Excellent quality. Great application instructions included. Bought this kit to change the joints on an 01 dodge cummins 4x4 2500. worked well until I tried to push out the lower joints. The receiver cup is not quite right. it will push the joint out just not as slick as it would if the cup was right. It is about 1/16" to big. I recommend that you apply anti-seize to the new joint. When pressing it in, if it becomes cocked, push it back out and start over. don't try to force it. The listing picture does not do justice to the size of the kit. It's a big kit and heavy. don't waste your money on a harbor freight press, like i did. the cheap Chinese press will bend while the joint laughs at you. Also if you get frustrated and decide to use yer oxy/fuel torch to heat things up and drive it out with a hammer, DON'T DO IT! Ball joint will explode about the time it starts to turn red. Ask me how I know. Damage to my shop floor proves it! If you have never taken the knuckle apart on the dodge 4x4, read on. some special tools are needed. 12 point 1/2 drive socket set. when you get to the unit bearing is when things get tough. it has 4 retaining bolts, remove 2 on opposite corners. back the other 2 out about 3/8". use a socket and extention between the bolt head and the end of the axle tube. turn the knuckle so that the socket extension combo is held in place between the bolt head and axle tube. start the engine, turn the steering till you feel the wheel pop. you have just pushed the unit bearing assembly about a 1/16". move the socket/extension to the other bolt, start and turn. repeat till the unit bearing is free of the knuckle. Be ever so careful removing the axle shafts. mess up the seal and the differential has to be removed from the housing to replace the seals. ... show more

  • Are you kidding me???
OMG!!! This thing is a mammoth!! It is really hard to tell from the pictures how big it is (*that's what she said!*). You gotta really put it into perspective...with my other 2 cheaper ball joint sets (both got bent by the way). I've attached a couple pictures for you to see. The OTC set is on the left, and on the right are 2 boxes of your typical "Harbor Freight" type of ball joint sets...actually, one of them is from Harbor Freight, and the blue box is from Princess Auto, which is just a Canadian version of HF. The other picture with the OTC box open, you see on top your usual "C" press from HF, which was too short to work on the Jeep comfortably. That extra length of OTC "C" should make the job much easier. All the sockets and adapters are just as huge in comparison to HF sets. I really did not expect so much difference! I thought it'd be similar, and hopefully better built. With that size difference I can assure you it will last and hold up to the dreadful joy of changing rusted in Jeep ball joints. However, I never got to use it yet, as I've literally destroyed my axle housing shortly after I bought it, and ended up with a brand new axle with ball joints already installed. Still, I'm looking forward to using it once these wear out one day. Returning it didn't make sense because of how frigging heavy this thing is, which would be just as heavy on shipping costs back to the seller. ... show more

  • Quality tool and adapters
Really impressed with this kit. I just freshened up the front end of my 2013 dodge 2500 Cummins with new Axle u-joints, Carli ball joints, and hub assemblies and I’m so happy I purchased this kit instead of the smaller one. Had every cup and driver to remove the old and install the new. Was able to do the u-joints with the addition of a simple 1/2” plate with a hole cut out for the diameter of the u-joint. Ball joint were a bear to get out and I was more concerned about damaging the truck than breaking this tool. If you’re looking to work on a dodge 2500, this will take wondering if you have the right cups/ press out of the equation. The only thing I found was that I needed to raise the front end higher than normal to accommodate the longer tool for the bottom ball joints. For the U-joints I put the tool in a vice. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Installs them just as easy, put your ball joint in the freezer at ...
This tool is well worth the money, did 4 ball joints on 2011 dodge diesel in less than a hour. It does remove upper and lowers without any issues. One of the lower ones was a bit stubborn, as the lower gets pressed out, the driving plug moves off center a little, but once its below the bevel on the axle housing it's game on. Installs them just as easy, put your ball joint in the freezer at least 24 hrs before, its helps a lot, but is not necessary. The sticker shock of the this tool in a bit tough, but after seeing the quality of this tool, I made a wise investment. Most people grumble about the case being cheap, maybe, But the quality of the tools speak for them selves!!!!!! ... show more

  • 07 Ram 2500
Worked perfectly for an 07 Dodge 2500. The ball joints on this truck are large and require the added reach of the large C frame, the adapters fit like a glove. I have only used the most basic (7249) kit for most every vehicle I have done. That list is lengthy but almost always required using pieces of pipe, fittings, washers and sockets in conjunction with the adapters to rig something that would work. I was very impressed with this kit. The adapters fit onto and mount into the C frame and this makes holding everything in place much easier than my other kit. While this kit services multiple dodge/jeep vehicles, the way everything fits and works together made this kit feel like it was made specifically to do the ball joints on this truck. ... show more

  • China made OTC tools
Would have given 5 stars if tools was made in the USA as I had read they were, and had been in agood case. The case has junk hinges. The first set was shipped just in the case, of coarse the case was broken with parts missing.Amazon quickly shipped another set, this time the case was in a box. The case was broken same as the first one but, no missing parts. The box retained the parts & papers that wasn't in the first set. I was dispointed to see the made in China sticker. For the money should have been in a metal box and made in the USA. If you think OTC tools are made in the USA think again. ... show more
