This clipper operates smoothly. Used it to clip our new rescue pup. Used less than half the time of the other brand clipper. It got a bit hot though. it also weighs about twice as much as the other brand, but that makes it steadier to handle. Puppy was happy with the shorter time. I groomed professionally for 30 yrs so have had several Oster products. Great products and they stood behind their products. I do hope that's still the case. This particular clipper I've had before and it lasted yrs. It does heat up faster and many have said that in reviews. I only use it for my 2 dogs that I groom weekly so hopefully they will last as long as I need. I purchased the insurance plan in case there's a problem.

Dog grooming is expensive and traumatic for our dog. We decided to do it ourselves. This clipper is the enhanced version of the gold standard in clippers for dogs and pretty much all other furry creatures large and small. Pros: It will go through the thickest undercoat quickly, without slowing or jamming. It is very high quality built. It protects pretty well against clipper cuts on the skin. The cord is long enough to reach the largest dogs. It comes with replaceable motor brushes. There is a screen over the air intakes. It's very easy to clean. Two screws remove the blade and you can clean and lubricate it. The #10 blade it comes with cuts hair very very short. Cons: It's loud. If your dog has ever been to a groomer before, this sound will likely scare the crap out of him. When I first turned it on, my dog started to tremble, which he never does. This is probably a side of your dog you don't know yet, so proceed cautiously and slowly introduce your dog to the clipper. This one is very important: It gets ridiculously hot. I mean burning hot. DO NOT use this product without getting the Oster Kool Lube 3 - 14 oz. This spray is not a luxury, it's absolutely necessary. It provides instant cooling and lubrication to the very hot blade. If you do not use this spray at least once every 2 minutes, you will most likely burn your dog and get bit in the process. Both issues are handled better with the clipper spray. A properly clean and lubricated blade will be a bit quieter. The only real complaint I have is there is only one blade with the clipper. The blades are expensive. Usually more than twenty dollars. The #10 blade it comes with cuts hair very very short. Final Thoughts: Despite the glaring problems of being loud and hot, those are easily managed with behavioral conditioning of your dog and the kool lube 3 spray. Those two problems are not serious enough to risk using another clipper. This clipper is it, it's the best you can get and the best at what it does. If you try clipping a dog with a thick undercoat with a regular clipper, it jams every minute or so unless you go very very slow.

This is my second Oster A5 Turbo clippers. The first set are working just fine after 10 years. But due to circumstances beyond my control they were left behind on a trip to our beach house. Tilly our Cocker Spaniel was over due for her clip and panting loudly due to the temps in the upper 80's and long hair.. long story short.. I ordered another Oster A5 Turbo clipper set. It was a no brainier! From day one as a novice dog groomer I knew that I needed to purchase a clipper that could do the job and not make it any more difficult than it already was. So I ask our breeder what she used, she had one clipper.. Oster. She groomed 5 of her own dogs. So that was my decision too, a proven track record. For over 10 years doing two full two hour plus clips of our Cocker Spaniel and still running just fine. I've changed the brushes once and replaced the #10 blade once lubed once a year and oiled each time I used the clippers, of course while clipping Tilly its a must to keep the blades operating at their best and I recommend Oster Kool Lube III Spray Coolant. This helps keep the blades clean, cool and lubed to cut smooth. Want a no brainier of a decision on what to buy to clip your dog or animal? Go no further.. you found it.

I researched and read many reviews before I purchased these clippers and it was worth the time to receive a quality product at a great price. I did not feel that it was necessary to have 2 speeds because I feel there is less that can malfunction with less bells and whistles. I don't think I will have to worry about any malfunction here! They are quieter than other clippers that I have used and don't get as hot, which is nice. It takes me over an hour and a half to groom my dog and I give it a rest about half way through, but not because the clippers are overheating. I am sure I will get many years of use from this quality product.

I ordered this product to clip my dog, but it ran hot immediately to where you could not hold it and would speed up on its own, I returned the product and ordered another one exactly the same but it has rattling noises as it runs and also runs hot. I have always used Oster because of their quality but I am very disappointed.

If I could give this clipper a ZERO i would! It’s useless!!! It’s huge, clunky, loud, heats up in about one minute and does not even cut!!! I have requested a refund .. if I do not receive one this could be the last time buying something on Amazon. $165 is too much money for a piece of JUNK. It should not even be sold on here. I’m so angry!
