  • Happy 8-String Owner!
Style: Rosewood Fretboard Color: Satin
I wanted an instrument with a little more volume than a standard tenor ukulele. Also, I like the sound of the tiple as played by radio star Arthur Godfrey. This instrument duplicates that sound and MORE than satisfies. It has a wonderful harp-like quality, sort of similar to a 12-string guitar. I find myself easily playing -and sounding great- on mandolin tunes. The sound is sweet and mellow, but satisfies with a volume that stands out acoustically. Of course plugged in to a good amp or PA board, there's as much volume as you'll ever need with the built in Barcus-Berry pickup system. Overall i'm very satisfied. I also purchased the Gator "Pro Go Series G-PG-UKE-TEN Gig Bag for Tenor Style Ukulele/A/F Style Mandolin" case. Had I realized the OU28TE was available WITH CASE for not much more money, I likely would've gone with that. Still, I'm extremely satisfied with the instrument, and find the Gator case fits perfectly, with good protection and pro appearance. I will caution purchasers to be patient with tuning the uke. The nylon strings especially take a while to stretch and settle into their proper tuning. It may at first seem the tuners are faulty, but just keep cranking on the tuners, be patient and keep re-tuning! It will be worth the wait! I highly recommend this instrument! I am in my seventies and have played professionally for at least 50 of those years. ... show more

  • Ridiculous Bang for Buck
Style: Engineered Wood Fretboard Color: Satin
For this price point, this is absolutely unbeatable. Comparing this to other Ukes of the same price range, it’s top-tier. Pros: lots - Sounds amazing, low cost, good strings out of the box, intonation and scale is good, electronics are better than expected and even. Cons: few- only real nitpick is that the action is pretty high. I will have to have that adjusted. Overall, you’re getting a way better instrument than expected at a price point that others brands can’t match with the features. I research heavily and have only seen one other brand that comes close to this and they don’t offer an 8-string version. So, buy it, spend a few on a setup, and enjoy! ... show more

  • Cheapest 8-string, Sounds great! Terrible attention to shipping.
Style: Engineered Wood Fretboard Color: Satin
It’s not the most beautiful Uke but for $130 when the next cheapest 8 string is $400, it’s not bad at all. First of all, it sounds beautiful. Very full and great harmony. Basic tuning is G4-G3-C5-C4-E4-E4-A4-A4. I used a chromatic tuner on my iPhone and it was easy enough to tune. The tuners aren’t the smoothest but I do like that they offer very fine adjustments. Build and finish are just ok. It’s all plywood with no binding, so watch the edges. There was a couple very small specks of glue on both sides of the bridge, the tuners aren’t completely seated flush in the front, but close. However the neck with the engineered fingerboard was pretty nice and decently filed. I’m being nit picky but it would be nice to see a little better attention to detail. I bought a Hola ukulele from Amazon for about $64 that had impeccable construction, materials and attention to finished details. So getting this from a division of Washburn was a little disappointing. However again, this is just nit picking. None of this will affect the sound or longevity of the instrument. And for $130 for a 8 string? You won’t find a better deal. I did put some fret stickers on mine right away to dress it up a little. I will probably get some for the body too. One major disappointment though was with the shipping. It just came in a thin foam bag inside the Uke box. And believe it or not......the box wasn’t even taped shut!!!! Naturally the side of the body that was up against the edge of the box got dinged in shipment. Not bad enough for me to send it back but still disappointing there was no concern for the safety of the instrument with shipping it. I just hope with the front being plywood with no binding, the ding doesn’t lead to any peeling or separating of the ply down the road Anyways for the money, it’s a great deal. If you want a cheap 8-string, this is the one to get. ... show more

  • Good value, but TUNE DOWN IMMEDIATELY
Style: Rosewood Fretboard Color: Satin
I bought this in 2016 and its now 2020. This instrument has 2x the strings of a normal ukulele, and there is 2x the tension acting on the instrument. I don't think the instrument was designed for this extra tension - the face of my guitar has warped from the tension. I've played it normally and its been well kept and climate controlled. It still plays and sounds fine, but this flaw may cut the life of this instrument short by a few years. You should tune down to EAC#F# or something like that to lower the tension and save your instrument! ... show more

  • A great addition to my ukulele collection
Style: Rosewood Fretboard Color: Satin
I have had this instrument for a week now, and it is everything I expected. I own 11 other ukuleles, some quite expensive, and I love the sound of this one just as much as all but my Wixom hand made Luke. The built-in pick up works very well with my little portable amplifier. I really like the octave different G strings and C strings. They give it a "chorusy" sound. I did find it was frustrating to tune, since I was used to only 4 strings or 6 strings on a guitar. But after about 3 days the strings stretched enough that I don't have to adjust the tuning now from day to day. The action was set just right for me right out of the box - no adjustments needed. There was a very small nick along the edge, but it it not obtrusive, and after a few months of playing all of my ukes have some little nicks. At my intermediate skill level it is more of a strumming instrument than a picking instrument, but I have been able to pick some tunes. I think that a beginner would be better served by a 4 string ukulele. ... show more

  • Does not work.
Style: Rosewood Fretboard Color: Satin
The device was missing the battery door. I ordered a replacement door and when it showed up the device still would not function as advertised. Edit: I ordered a second Uke from Oscar Schmidt this one was shipped with the WRONG battery door! Insane. The ukulele is lovely and sounds great but the quality assurance team is GARBAGE. 2 out of 2 have been broken out of the box. How? ... show more
