    • A remarkable can opener.
Even though the description is somewhat misleading, this is still a great can opener. The description suggests the opener can peel back the lids crimped ridge to remove the lid from the can. It doesn't do that. It does cut just below the lid top but with a very clean edge. How to videos I watched say you can press down on the lever and let it do the rest, but the instructions tell you to maintain pressure on the lever throughout the cutting process. This is what works. And the opener does this very well. I also noticed that the way to tell when the cutting has finished is when the lower can and lid stop moving at the same speed. Then you know the lid has been completely removed from the can. As to whether you can reconnect the lid to put back in the frig, well that may not do very well as you have no real tight seal to maintain freshness. I have found one can that this opener won't open without working with the opener. Eventually it works. But, so far, only one bad can. Fast forward 2 months. I ordered it Jan.30th and did this review soon after. Now, March 29th, things have changed. Initially I had noticed the opener had some problems with specific cans. But, as time went on, I started to see other difficulties. The opener would stop and start, or need physical encouragement to get it to restart. Now, about two months later, it won't open cans it had no trouble with before. Its as though the blade is dull. With the standard openers, you usually have a lengthly blade so some time may take place before it stops cutting. But, with this opener, the blade must be shorter. Once before I bought a battery powered opener, actually a pair of them, two for one price. It too cut off the top but stopped working after just three months. So, okay I said, the other one will work. Not. It didn't work either. It was like they were designed to stop working after 90 days.     • Won’t open cans after not even two months and minimal use. I can’t even get my money back!

I loved the ease of opening the cans. With that being said after about the 4th time using it I had to leave the can on for about 2 full rotations because the glue of the can itself was not being separated (eww). I didn’t mind it though as long as it opened my cans without the gunk. Now after not even a full two months of having this machine it won’t even open anything. I always remove the paper so nothing gets into the food within and so obviously nothing accumulates in the opening part. Even with taking the proper steps to make sure it doesn’t get clogged as you can see in the photo that shavings of metal is accumulating. It rotates the can and looks as though it did open it. I used a spoon to try and pry it open and it doesn’t open. So... it was easy to use very minimal effort. Which I was happy because I have nerve issues and with handheld ones it can tend to be a painful experience. I’m sure someone out there can relate. I would normally spend about $10-15 on handheld can openers from Walmart or Target and it would last longer and with minimal use. I decided to spoil myself and my hands and bought this one $30 and for it not to perform well it’s disappointing. Oh and if you do decide to buy one even with the horrible reviews ( like I did) pray and hope that it stops working before the 30 day return window because they just don’t care. So I’m out of $30 and a stupid can opener. I give it a one because it was easy to use but what good is it really if it’s easy to use if it won’t even open the can! ... show more

    • Awesome Can Opener
This opener is mostly as advertised. It is super easy to use. I didn't mark a rating for cleaning because I haven't had to clean it. I've opened soup, gravy filled dog food, etc, and nothing has spilled. The instructions that come with the machine could be more elaborate but what is there, if you follow it, you will not have any problems opening cans safely and clean. It does a crinkle on the edge of the top all around the lid. You remove the can from the machine and you pop the top off with your fingers. Super easy. If you're not going to use all of the contents of the can, you can pop the lid back on the can and store it in the fridge instead of having to find a container to put your stuff in. I have ran into two issues so far. Neither of which have made me displeased. First and probably the most annoying, it can't open dented cans. It will either get stuck in the dent or skip over it. Solution; flip the can over and open it from the other side. The second problem are "interestingly" topped cans like Campbell's chunky soups. You can put the can in and it will spin all around but it won't open. Same solution as the first problem; can pops open, no issues. Overall, really happy with my "toy". ... show more

I’ve had this can opener nearly two years. It suddenly stopped opening the cans. I found probably the only video on YouTube that show you how to fix this particular opener. The cutter wheel needs to be re-tightened and this video shows how to do that. My husband fixed ours within just a few minutes and now it works as well as ever. ... show more

    • Not exactly as on TV
This isn't a "normal can opener". it does not sense when the lid is open as "normal" can openers do. As expected then, you have to hold the lever down for one revolution i.e. "one touch". Not difficult. Hold it inconsistently and you will miss areas during the revolution. If you don't have the strength to hold the lever down at a consistent pressure then don't buy it as the lid won't come off because some areas of the seal don't release. If you expect auto shutdown then don't buy it. It's not possible to auto shutdown as there is nothing to sense one revolution as in automatic openers when the lid pops off. Some comments mention it "cuts" on the side. NO, it doesn't "cut" anything. What it has is a wheel than un-crimps the top cap. Keep grinding round and round more than one revolution and you will scratch up the can lid under the wheel. Instructions specifically say not to do this. Push the lever down firmly and hold for one revolution and it works. It's not rocket science. ... show more
