  • Not quite the sentinel I was hoping for, but close enough that I still use it
Item Package Quantity: 1
Let me say this first: If you plan to leave this sprinkler “armed” (in silent sentinel mode) for many hours at a time, you will probably want a high-quality water hose that can handle high internal water pressure for long periods of time. Many garden hoses would not be a good choice, and especially not pocket hoses. I purchased a hose rated for 400 psi, and it hasn’t exploded yet, but every week it looks a little more plump, which in turn makes it a foot or two shorter, which forces me to reroute it around corners and plants to prevent kinking of the hose or damage to the plants. The water is barely turned on at the spigot, just enough to make the sprinkler perform its quick little dance, but the hose is still swelling under the continuous pressure. The temp here has been fluctuating between 105 and 110 Fahrenheit, so the hose (especially where it’s in direct sun) is eventually filled with very hot pressurized water, which thankfully has a bit of time to cool before the opossums and raccoons and armadillos begin to arrive in the night. I love the construction of this sprinkler. All the pieces feel solid and rugged and waterproof. The various adjustments are actually fun to play with on a hot summer day, and I advise you to adjust everything you can adjust, as far in both directions as they will adjust, and always triggering the sprinkler afterwards to see the results of your changes. Then you will be an expert when you make your final adjustments and arm the sprinkler for battle. Wear the kinds of shoes and shorts that you might wear into the shower, or into a swimming pool. Have a towel waiting for you in a dry location. Have some fun. You can assemble the unit using either of two different methods, depending on how high you want the motion sensor to be (for detecting small vs. large animals). Tip: For mounting the motion sensor unit, there are two different “mounting arms” that can be installed. The instructions tell you to install one or the other, but I suggest making sure both arms are installed before you screw the sprinkler head into the top of the riser. Then, if and when you want to change the position of the motion sensor from low to high, or high to low, you can just move the large sensor unit (with the attached battery pack and control panel) from one arm to the other, without needing to disassemble anything else. I started with the sensor in the low position (about 4 inches off the ground). Security videos revealed several critters walking near the sprinkler, and they usually didn’t trigger it when I thought they should. So I moved the motion sensor to the higher mounting arm (about 12 inches off the ground). Even after I tilted it down slightly (by loosening and retightening the attachment knob), the sensor refused to activate the sprinkler as often as I would have liked. Note: You can also disable something called Intelligent Sensing, which is supposed to increase the time between valve activations to prevent overwatering, but even when I disabled it, the motion sensor didn’t seem any more sensitive to the presence of animals, and I wish it was a lot more sensitive and eager to spray animals. But I still use it every night, moving it to different positions inside a short garden fence. Medium-sized opossums can squeeze through the fence’s two-inch vertical bars and make it look like a magic trick; the bars don’t even bend. Raccoons can easily climb over or jump over. But it’s the the armadillo who wants to dig up my yard in search of food, and she seems unable to squeeze through or climb over. If the planets align and this sprinkler happens to wake up and offer some discouragement, the little armored one will usually give up and leave. ... show more

  • Seems to be working well; night sensor doesn't work as should; cars set it off
Item Package Quantity: 1
*Update: Has been 10 months of use. Leakage is very minimal and we haven't noticed a big change in our water bill. However, two months ago we had to move the sprinkler from next to the garage door to about 8' down the driveway because of the unreliability of the "NIGHT" setting. Delivery drivers and we were getting sprayed when the sun was fully up or the light was still bright (cloudy at 4pm...you're getting sprayed; 8:30 a.m. as the sun peaking through but still bright light...sprayed). Moving it meant we could alter the direction, so that even when you pull into the driveway, you can pull up near the garage and access the sidewalk from the garage to the front porch without getting yourself wet. Your car however will get sprayed. The new location is inside a flower bed 30' from the road and set to spray 180 degrees with the sensor still pointed Eastward at the driveway/road to get any dogs or cats (or nighttime trespassers-which is great when you're on vacation or work trips) walking onto our property. The trick is that at 30', every vehicle that passes sets off the sprinkler. So our water usage is up. That's not good. I'm not sure what the solution is. And with holiday deliveries, the drivers are coming well after dark, and if they park in the road and run a package up, they are getting sprayed, so we may just have to turn it off until after the first of January. The sprinkler has cut down significantly on nighttime visits of off leash cats and dogs. I just wish the nighttime sensor was more accurate for "darkness". And I wish that vehicles were not setting it off. Note: we have not yet changed our original batteries from February and it does go off at least once a day, numerous times with the new location-that's a good thing. If only folks would respect their neighbors and obey the leash laws (and picking up poops!). **************************** Have been using this product about a month on a set of new batteries. Have it set to operate at NIGHT. We have rude neighbors who do not follow the leash laws and allow dogs and cats to roam free. This purchase was to prevent dogs and cats from pooping and peeing all over our driveway and adjacent landscaping. Although they come at all hours, we cannot have this triggering during the day as it will "shoot" all delivery drivers, guests and us coming and going. So we chose NIGHT. Unfortunately, the night sensor doesn't work well. For example it is 8:30 a.m., the sun is fully up, and the sprinkler is still activating. The sensor is pointed EAST to get the first light of day. Just this morning, it went off with the garage door, my dog and I were sprayed twice-coming and going, "something" was sprayed before our walk because everything was wet so I am anxious to check the Wildlife Cam footage. So far only one delivery driver has said he was scared when it sprayed him for a morning delivery. It was a cloudy morning before storms so it goes off then too. There is no way to set the device to, let's say, run for 8 , 10, or 12 hours after dark. If it had the capability to be hooked up to electrical then it would be easy to have it connected to a timer such as we use for our landscape lights. You'll also need a heavy duty hose. Our first hose blew the side out after 1 day. The shortest heavy duty hose the home supply had was 25'. I have been very worried about water pressure build-up causing a leak at the house or the hose end. We have the water pressure turned on "just" enough to allow the sprinkler to operate. So far it is okay, once we double checked our gaskets in the hose. We have a double head connector at the house. One side goes to the Yard Enforcer. The other side allows us to wash the car or water the flowers, etc. HOWEVER, if you use your water outlet to do anything else other than the Yard Enforcer, then you have to try and remember how far to leave the water spigot "on" when you are through so that enough water operates the Yard Enforcer. If there isn't enough, the spray comes out a big flaccid and won't go far. Too much "on" and you risk leaks at the house spigot or hose end. I would like to hope we can change the behavior of the cats and dogs that are using our driveway, car tires, landscaping as their daily toilet and eventually put the Enforcer away for a while. Of course, the BEST option is that people wouldn't be so lazy, rude and un-law abiding as to just let their "pets" run free. We've spent over $1000 on devices and fences (as allowed..we are restricted) and this is just another attempt to save our sanity. ... show more

  • Effective Yard Protection
Item Package Quantity: 1
I recently purchased the Orbit 62100 Yard Enforcer Motion-Activated Sprinkler and have had some time to test it out. This sprinkler offers day and night detection modes and has been a game-changer for my yard. As a dog owner (Luna, a Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd mix), I was looking for a way to protect certain areas of my garden. The motion-activated feature caught my eye, and I must say, it works impressively well. Pros 1. Effective Motion Detection: The sprinkler reacts promptly to movement, ensuring no unwanted animals enter the protected area. 2. Day & Night Modes: The ability to choose between detection modes adds flexibility and ensures round-the-clock protection. 3. Easy Installation: Setting it up was a breeze, and the adjustable range made it suitable for different parts of my yard. Cons: 1. Sensitivity Adjustment: Although the motion detection is impressive, I did face some challenges in fine-tuning the sensitivity. It occasionally triggered when Luna was nearby, even in areas where I didn't want it to. 2. Water Consumption: Be mindful of the water usage if you set it to a high sensitivity level, as it can consume more water than expected. Overall, the Orbit 62100 Yard Enforcer is a valuable addition to my garden, helping to protect delicate plants and keep unwanted visitors at bay. With some minor adjustments, it could be perfect. I'd recommend this to fellow dog owners or anyone looking for an intelligent watering solution. ... show more
