  • Great projector.
Style: UHD50X (3400 Lumens)
Love the picture -- amazing, bright and sharp picture for HD and 4K UHD content. HDR is a bit lacking in terms of picture quality, but seems to be the case with a lot of the 4K projectors at this point in time. Very forgiving in terms of installation, due to considerable throw range and generous vertical lens shift range and keystone options. Even in ECO mode, the image pops and is plenty bright even with ambient light in the room. Video games look amazingly bright and colors vivid. Overall, highly recommend! One tip (I found out this the hard way): i was getting weird haloes/glare around players during sports viewing and it was because I had the vertical lens shift fully engaged to limit to move image up (because i was having trouble with my ceiling mount in keeping the projector image high enough. Once I fixed the mount, and moved vertical lens shift back to more in the middle, halo/glare effect went away. Likely lens aberration. ... show more

  • Want a $1500.00 piece of Chinese junk? You're in luck!
Style: UHD50X (3400 Lumens)
I've had this projector for almost a year. Several of the chips inside the unit have malfunctioned, resulting in 5 (at last count) white, pixillated spots basically ruining the picture. I contacted Optoma and filled out a service ticket for repair. I then received an email, that wasn't even signed by a rep, stating that due to a "global parts shortage" that they were unable to honor the warranty now but may be able to do so in the future if they receive parts to do so. I then spoke with two customer service reps who were not rude but certaintly not helpful. I recommended that since they could not repair my unit under the terms of their warranty that they send me out a new unit instead. Both agents declined. One agent even tried to tell me that since my unit was almost a year old (ie: almost out of warranty) that they would never even consider replacing it. Someone at Optoma should inform the agent that whether an item is a day old or 364 days old, a years warranty is a YEARS WARRANTY. I then asked the agents how Optoma, in good conscience, could continue selling products they know are defective when they also know that they will be unable to honor any warranty repair work. I was told that since they did not sell units directly to consumers that they would not be replacing my unit with a new one and that they could only provide the remedy of letting me know, at some unknown and arbitrary time in the future, when they might have the parts to fix it. And get this, they also recommend I CONTINUE using the projector!! Earth to Optoma: It's BUSTED you moron! All in all, its not even a good very projector. The blacks are muddled in darker movie scenes, when powering on the picture does a weird, discombobulated dance on the screen, it randomly shuts off by itself, or goes into a weird mode where it searches for a signal right in the middle of watching TV or playing a game and sometimes runs in a pulsating fashion for several minutes before shutting down. Dear Optoma: Ill wait for you to fix my projector simply because I have no other choice. Ill just dust off my 8 year old Epson workhorse I was smart enough to keep just in case this type of thing happened. It may not have low latency when it comes to gaming but it WORKS. It was also half the price of the POC from the PRC. ... show more

  • Best projector for its price range! But you must set the picture up right..settings below
Style: UHD50X (3400 Lumens)
Hi - i have tried them all! from $80 to 1500 projectors including a couple of Optomas and Benq. UHD50x is the one I am keeping! Make sure to use a quality projector screen! The effect is simply amazing. To maximize the quality of your pic - use the settings below as it really makes a difference (thanks to a poster/PSINERD on reddit where i got it from) A couple of quick things - it is NOT 240HZ unless you connect to a PC and you wont even get 4k@120HZ with a standard connection like firestick or chromecast. Beyond that it works really well - and super fun to watch movies in UHD! -------------------- Main Menu Display Mode: HDR should be selected Wall color: Off (you are using a proper screen, no?) • Great projector with a number of compromises
Style: UHD50X (3400 Lumens)
This is a great projector if you use it for a mix of video games and movies. If you are only interested in movies, there are better choices in this price range. Pros: * Very bright picture * 4K adds a lot of detail making the front row of my theater premium seats (my old Panasonic 1080P) looked very pixelated in the front row. * Fast response time with video games, XBOX One X plays well * Bright colors Cons: *Lack of horizontal lens shift (My old Panasonic had this). Depending on your ceiling studs you may have to go in the attic and add support (I had to additional support in the attic). * Leaks a lot of light. This is not an issue for me because I using a ceiling mount. * Struggles with shades of grey in night scenes in movies. Contrast is excellent in brighter scenes. * Doesn't support 4K 120HZ HDMI technology (latest XBOX and Play Station). Does work with computers at 120 HZ and 4K and 204HZ in 1080p. If you aware of the benefits and accept the limitations of this projector you will be very happy. I am very happy with it, but the cons result 4 stars instead of 5 stars. ... show more

  • Ignore the nerds, this is a great buy.
Style: UHD50X (3400 Lumens)
Best bang for the buck. Not a “true native 4K” as some other reviewers have commented but unless you are the most obsessive compulsive video nerd you will not notice the difference. Have this installed in my basement home theater, throwing a 110” image from about 11 feet away. Looks gorgeous. Only negative thing I have to say is changing the audio volume on my Sony receiver causes the image to reset itself. Sort of annoying but just set the volume where you want it before beginning a film or a game and no issues. Upgraded from a Optoma HD141x I purchased in 2016. ... show more

  • Don't believe the marketing hype - There are better projectors out there Don't believe the marketing hype - There are better projectors out there
Style: UHD50X (3400 Lumens)
EDIT: Several months in and anytime I enable HDR, I get terrible artefacts. Disable and go back to SDR and they're gone. I thought this might just be an issue with the content, but after testing games, blu rays, and streaming content as well as multiple input devices and cables, it's clear that something is wrong. Even plugging directly into the projector with the newest Roku stick produces bad artefacts. Honestly, I wish I could return it. Pros: • You get a reasonably sharp 4K image • It supports 3D • Low input lag for 1080p gaming Cons: • Bad artefacts when enabling HDR. • First unit I bought was DOA, which I had to return. • Customer support never responded to my requests and neither did their Reddit community person. • Constantly switching signals (searching for input) which can take 5 or 6 seconds each time. Imagine trying to startup a game or movie on your Playstation. The projector will end up changing to a black screen and will, yet again, start searching for a signal. This will happen multiple times. Then the screen finally appears, then HDR kicks in. • Takes forever to find signals. • Takes a long time to boot. • Sometimes doesn't ever find the signal. I have to turn everything on in a precise order to get it to work and even then, it sometimes fails to find my signal. • Black level are not very good. Basically the same as my 6+ year old Viewsonic which still had its original lamp. • Loud... man, this thing is so loud and it's not a constant fan speed so during quiet scenes you just hear this constant revving up and down. • It is on their site now. If you select it, the resolution is forced down to 1080p. This is a known issue and they refuse to acknowledge or fix it. Input lag measured by the community is double (~50ms) what is claimed on their website. • Colors get screwed up when turning on the projector or when the resolution switches; forcing you to turn the thing off, wait...., and then turn it back on. • There is an issue where half the screen look fine and the other half has washed out colors. For context, I'm using: • Expensive/high end RUIPRO 8K HDMI cable • Denon AVR-S960H 8K Receiver • PS4 Pro / Roku Streaming Stick+ This feels like rushed product where they spent as much time on marketing as they did on development. I'd like to have a conversation with the engineers who designed this thing to find out what went wrong. Meanwhile, Optoma does not care at all. They'll just release new products while this one fades into obscurity without any further updates or support. ... show more

  • Great projector so far Great projector so far
Style: UHD50X (3400 Lumens)
I've used this projector for 3 days now and it's fantastic. This is the second projector I've owned. The fan is nice and quiet even after the unit has been on for hours. It isn't very heavy so it was fairly easy to mount close to my ceiling with only a 5 inch down tube. The image is bright has heck (see picture and excuse the mess - note that there are two table lamps on at the time and it's still crazy bright). Some people have mentioned light leak and there definitely is some but it doesn't bother me. Games and movies look amazing and buttery smooth on it. The bulb is super bright so black levels aren't as dark as they could be but that's a trade off that projector owners should understand. There's also a way to lower the bulb brightness and save on bulb life but I haven't tried that yet to see what difference it makes. My only complaint (so far) is that the remote is kind of cheap looking. It's white and has a weird shape and is very light so it just feels a little cheap. I do like how it has separate power on and power off buttons. Since those are the only two I'll ever be pressing I don't really care about the remote too much. So 5 stars overall! ... show more

  • Bells and whistles that don’t make a good product Bells and whistles that don’t make a good product
Style: UHD50X (3400 Lumens)
I’ve had this projector for 11 months and I have had time to “get to know it” pretty well in that time. I give it a solid “C+” and my score includes features, price, functionality, and quality. Features - it’s got a “gaming mode” which is the only way to get the ultra low latency which drops your resolution to 1080. So it’s 4K gaming at high latency or low latency at 1080, not low latency at 4K. This was not clear to me at the time of purchase. - also with gaming mode, it removes any screen adjustments you make. So if you have some digital zoom or keystoning going on, forget about it. You’ll be gaming at an odd angle. - brilliant colors are also pretty useless as I have found, they tend to just put a halo around things or blow out certain colors. A prime example is if I’m watching a video of someone and the sky is in the background, it puts a while halo around the person. With brilliant color turned off, it goes away. So I keep that at as low as it goes. Let’s talk fire. If a scene has a fire in it or a red, to yellow, to white gradient, it’ll blow it out and you get this odd effect where it looks glowing. I can fix it by changing the color gamut and temperature and putting the brilliant color to 6, but then I get the halo on blues. So I can’t balance it. It works for one but is broken for another. Picture It does get a great picture at times, it does better with certain scenarios over others. It does seem a bit dark at times. I have to up the brightness is some situations and I have found that with how an appletv processes an image, a dark movie is just about unwatchable. Unless the room is pitch black, you won’t enjoy it. I bought a mid level screen and unless it’s totally dark in the room, you won’t see details in dark scenes. Functionality It is a bit loud. Granted, my projector is over head and I’m about 5 feet from it. Not a huge problem but adds to my list. Finding a source between switching from non-hdr to hdr content takes a bit. Maybe 10-15 seconds? It’s just annoying to turn an app on and then wait 15 seconds. Or if you watch a trailer, it’ll kick in to hdr mode. That’s annoying. The remote works well and the UI, while functionally fine does feel dated. I’m 2020 I bought a state of the art projector and it feels like a UI from the 90’s. There are no smart capabilities with the projector. I am ok with this, but it’s worth noting. Quality This is where I am the harshest on this projector. I got this because I was told I pad lens shift. The lens shift is a joke. It’s a single direction and the range of motion is hardly noticeable. Recently, and what brought me back to do this review is I have dead pixels. White dots on the screen that are always present. Also, if I do the full white screen test pattern, I have black pixels as well. I presume these black pixels will turn into white pixels at some point, but I am 3,000 hours into it and to have dead pixel is no good for me. I’ll be sending it back in the hopes that I get a refund and can buy something else. For what I paid, it’s just not a quality product. I would not buy this projector again and I would suggest others do the same. It hits on a small handful of things but misses on many many more. ... show more
